Why is Grove back?

After viewing a few threads, and watching the Franklin trailer, I can now see that Grove and the Ballas seem to be comming back. Why are they back? Why doesn't Rockstar be original and create new gangs, rather than digging up sh*t from San Andreas and trying to pass it off again?

Why does it make you so angry?

Besides, we don't know if they'll have different names. We see some small Grove/Ballas tags in the trailers (there was Ballas on the bench in Trailer 2), but they're really small, so it's hard to say if it's legitimate grafitti from these gangs or just Easter Eggs. The green gang isn't called Grove, anyway. It's the Families.

I think they should be in there. It was a parody of the bloods and crips, and since theire still in LA they should be in gta v.

Cause its San Andreas and Los Santos. Thats like saying why do they play hockey on ice every year.

You might as well ask why they brought Vinewood back from SA. GSF and Ballas are part of the city, just like Bloods and Crips are an iconic part of LA.

Same reason why they're still calling it Los Santos/San Andreas. Besides, how would an entire gang disappear?

Exactly! It's like complaining about hosting the London marathon in London every year.

Bloods and Crips are still around. As long as these types of gangs have staying power, so should Los Santos's gangs.

i say why not. that is one of the reasons R* gives you the choice to switch to the other protags. why are people trippin'? seriously.

Well, it's a different continuity. So it wouldn't be that weird for there to be different gangs.

But at the same time, it's not that weird for the gangs to still be there, either. It's a brand, so it can cross over, it's just up to R* really. Again, though, I stand by my statement that we don't know whether or not these green and purple gangs are called the Families and the Ballas. Green and purple just makes sense, because they wouldn't use red and blue as is the custom with the real gangs, and any other color combinations just don't have the same kick. But they can call them anything they want, including Families and Ballas.

You just love to instigate flamewars don't you? First Roleplaying now SA gangs.

I say bring back SA glory, gotta love some nostalgia. This has nothing to do with originality.

They won't change the names of grove st families and ballas for the same reason the crips and bloods won't change their names and colour.

By the way universetwisters what makes you think rockstar gives a sh*t about what you want or think?

Why is Grove back?

Because they never left. Just like the real gangs of Los Angeles never left since 1992. You can't change the real world just because a video game already did the "gang theme". Do you know how many times the mafia has been in the GTA games, yet most people don't say anything about it, because we know it exists in real life.

Ok then we will just remove Burger Shot from LS because that was in San Andreas also. Oh, also we better remove the mini gun, that was in SA oh and also this and this and this...etc

Plain and Simple because Families and Ballas are the recreation of crips and bloods.

Do you have a reading inability or something?

But Mafia is a generic term. There's the Leone family, Forelli family, etc. Instead of reusing them in IV, they made up new mob families. Why can't rockstar do that?

They won't come back as the "Grove Street Families".

The III era's storyline is different from this one.

All these are indeed references to induce nostalgia feelings in us, such as the graffiti easter-egg, etc.

I have yet to see though, what they have to say about hispanic gang influence. They sure exist in LA, I'd like to see them play a bigger role, atleast in Franklin's side. Or maybe Michael's son could get in trouble with them, I am sure he will end up having trouble.

Do you know how many times the mafia has been in the GTA games, yet most people don't say anything about it, because we know it exists in real life.

To be fair though, the mafia has always been different apart from connections to III, but that was all within the 3D universe. None of the criminal organizations from III were in IV, for instance, they were all new.

But I think there are important distinctions to make between these organizations. III-era Liberty City was a mish-mash of various northeastern United States cities, while GTA IV's was based entirely on New York and maybe bits of New Jersey (depends on whether Alderney is part of Liberty City; I've heard conflicting facts on the matter). So IV's Liberty City is just a very different beast overall than it was before. The crime families in those areas aren't as well known, either.

Los Santos, on the other hand, has been and always will be based solely on Los Angeles. The Crips and Bloods and their feud are a well-known, iconic aspect of the criminal culture there. That's what the Families and the Ballas represented. In V, unlike IV, the influences are the same as they were in its 3D universe counterpart, but this time it's more focused. So the game still needs an analogue for the Bloods and Crips, which still exist there. They're not going to use the same colors as the real gang, so what better to use than green and purple again?

Once again I'll say that they might not be called Families and Ballas despite having the same colors. However, there's a very good possibility that they will be. It doesn't break the "Universe rules" as R* had put them, and while it's not an original decision I wouldn't say that it counts against the quality of the game because honestly, what other choice would they have?

But Mafia is a generic term. There's the Leone family, Forelli family, etc. Instead of reusing them in IV, they made up new mob families. Why can't rockstar do that?

Hopefully what I've said above will help you understand the distinction between how these gangs have to be handled and how the Mafia families were handled.

Tell the truth though i would have wanted rockstar to just plain have made the gangs color red and blue. Would that be illegal or somethin?

I don't think so, but having the main character be part of either the blue or red gang would suggest a certain preference for one or the other, which I don't think R* would want to do. It's better to just make it simple and not involve any real-life affiliations into the mix.

Like I said in another thread they have the perfect example of the Crips and Bloodz why change it? They're still active just not as strong as they use to be in the 90s.

That's because in real life Mafia's change dons practically every year because they either get locked up die of old age or their on the run so R* change the name every game, Los Santos is based on Los Angeles home of the Bloods & Crips since the late 60's, the gangs the Famillies & Ballas are based on which means their still there its just common sense.

Why don't you make a thread about the Triads having the same name since GTA 1 back in the 90's or the Lost MC coming back ? Did you get robbed by CJ on a trip to LA ?
