Both. They're developed by two different studios after all.

yes indeed they are but which one out of the 2 would you rather more that's the question.

None of the above. Both Mafia II and Godfather II (hell, even the first one) were very mediocre and definitely not worth the money. I doubt if we ever will see the aformentioned games, but even if, they have to make something really special to get my cash.

I'd like to see Mafia III, but they would need to do something to flesh out the game as an open world experience. While I enjoyed the story of Mafia II, the "open world" was a cock tease at best. The first game told a masterpiece of a story, so I can't really dock it for lacking in open world activities, although it at least had free ride extreme which II lacked.

Godfather 2 was quite horrible.

Mafia II was a great game, just lacked a solid storyline. So I'd rather have a new Mafia.

I'd love to see a Mafia III so long as they improve on the negatives of the previous game (most of which have been mentioned above).

They have some work to do but given enough time I think they could make a great game out of it.

First Godfather was fun, although it was a holocaust in terms of killing enemies. Never played the second.

The Mafia series is a stronger contender for a third.

I really enjoyed Mafia 2 i must admit, had alot more fun than i thought i would. And i picked it up for £7 second hand so was a good deal.

The original Godfather i really really enjoyed, i even took the time to crack all the safes. But the sequel was sh*t, so if the third installment is anything like that i will avoid it with my life.

Mafia III for sure, there have been some rumors that they are developing it for the next generation consoles but nothing official yet.

The upcoming Xcom game from 2K though will use the same engine as Mafia II, not that it is related to Mafia III, but the graphics and feeling in Mafia II was one of the best I have seen, excellent.

Its was a pitty though that the city did not have more to offer then its gourgeous atmosphere besides the generic gunstores, stores for clothes and the more varied diners.

I do think though that many misunderstand Mafia II in some ways, it was never intended to be an open world game as GTA, I think the devlopers made some comments about it as well, however they did try to make it a little bit more flexible then the first game, but I would not really say they succeeded to a great extent.

Also I would love to see a co-op feature in Mafia III, I think such a game would be perfect for it, actually many missions in Mafia II would also be good for co-op gameplay.

My bet is that Mafia III will come to next generation consoles and PC.

As much as i loved Mafia 2, if they never intended it to be a free roam open world game, they were f*cking retarded.

As soon as the game was released there was a massive back lash at the fact there was no free roam, there was even a free roam hack for the PC version made almost immediately.

Luckily they saw the error in their ways and included free roam in DLC for the console versions (apparently), too late though, it should have been in the standard base game ffs, or at least released as a free patch, how they could leave out free roam in a game like this is pure stupidity.

If they have any brain cells what so ever Mafia 3 will have a free roam ability from the start, don't get me wrong though, Mafia is 10X better than Godfather games. Last Godfather game was on PS2 to be fair, but it was a total fail of a game, sh*t as f*ck.

Well I agree on that, to not have "free roam" was a huge mistake on 2K's part when the game was released, I mean Mafia I had it and it worked perfectly well.

In regards to the "open world" game I might have confused it with "sandbox", I am not sure if those terms are used for one another and has the same meaning or not, my bad if they are not.

Godfather 3 is far superior.

Godfather 1 was just so epic, Godfather 2 wasn't as good.

GTA: Louisiana.

The Godfather 2 game was f*cking dreadful, although it did have some cool features like being able to customise your crew. I can definitely see where those guys from Queer Eye For the Straight Guy were coming from. Mafia 2 was a good game, but like others have said it neglected the open world aspect and was way too linear. I'd prefer to see a new Mafia game, just because I can't really see the point in another Godfather game, it'd just feel unnecessary.

I had fun playing Mafia 2; the gunplay was fun and I loved how you could rob stores and steal their items. That's exactly what I want in V. However, I didn't like the driving in Mafia 2 much. Also, the story was waaay too short. Lastly, I hate how the PS3 version was censored with no blood, whereas the PC version had tonnes of blood.

Considering I've never played The Godfather, I'd have to choose Mafia 3. I'm pretty sure the game has already been confirmed, anyways. I just hope they make Mafia 3 much better this time, otherwise I'll be getting it used. I hope they make it a free-roam game this time, because in Mafia 2 you were never between missions. I had to free roam during missions when it said "Go to Joe's apartment" etc.

Both of those games were short as hell and had NOTHING to do in the time you get to free roam. Good riddance... I'm praying that we don't get a 3 for either one.

I knew that going in, but it doesn't really excuse the fact that the game was really short for what it was. It felt like a lot of content had been pushed off onto the two DLC packs which should have been part of the core game thus making up for the total lack of non linear activities throughout the main story (apart from robbing stores which was actually done quite well).

The series really ought to evolve beyond a purely story driven game into a more non-linear open world game. I mean, sure, continue to tell the big linear story, but have it interwoven with plenty of open world activities and occurrences that reward the player and help you advance the character in criminal prowess and Mafioso ranking.

I haven't played either The Godfather games, and I don't think Mafia II lived up to all of the expectations (it's a beautiful game with a nice story, but it lacks in so many areas). So, I'm kind of unsure on these two.

However, what I would really, really love to see (since we're talking about gangster video games that have at least somewhat of an open world) is Scarface: The World is Yours rebuilt with better technology (graphics and physics) along with an addictive multiplayer. That's by far one the best "GTA clones" out there, but it didn't get much attention since it was released on the PS2 and Wii at a time when everybody was moving onto the PS3 and Xbox 360.

I would love Mafia 3 but only if it's done properly. Not like Mafia 2.

The problem with Mafia 2 was that a lot of the game was cut out. You can see it during the story. Those pre-rendered cutscenes like when Vito buys a house etc. Then the unresolved questions about the Triads. It's not a finished product. And it's so obvious. I think the development of that game was a nightmare. They probably changed the course of the game several time during the development. I read somewhere that the original idea was to have the option to join one of 5 mafia families and the story was supposed to be different depending on your choice.

There were parts in the trailers that didn't even appear in the final game (like when the protagonist (it's Vito right?) goes to "confess his sins").

I'd love both. 2K Czech needs more creative freedom with Mafia III though. I know Take Two had a right to be pissed off, since the development took so long, but their interference really hurt what could have been an amazing game. Instead we got just good game with a lot of squandered potential. Mafia II's development was difficult for many other reasons - they had to develop a new engine for new consoles, the team changed a lot, but now they should be stable and ready to make a new game. But take your sweet time with it. The best games aren't made within a span of two years. Unfortunately for 2K Czech, they aren't in the same position as R*, who are Take Two's most successful developers, so they can just tell Take Two to f*ck off if they feel like dictating them what to do and have enough studios to release a new game every year and still develop them for 4 or 5 years.

The Godfather II was in my opinion a hidden gem. It was the first crime sandbox game I played, that finally made me feel like an actual mob boss. Gang customization, classes, different kinds of rackets with different bonuses, taking out enemy capos, turning territory control minigame into a small strategy game, I loved all of that. I hope EA will revive the franchise, because there is so much that can be done with the concept. I'd love a crime sandbox game based around having to act tactically, doing all sorts of dirty businesses and building a real crime empire.

I agree with you 100% on that, I am in the minority I think of the die hard Mafia I (and Mafia II) fans that would like to see a Mafia III that have more similarity to the GTA franchise, but of course a Mafia III would have to have a strong story, character development and all that, but I want more.

I had hoped that Mafia II would provide it but it did not, its still a good game though, I especailly like the driving and I hope that GTA V would learn something from Mafia II in that respect.

Also I would as previously stated love to see a co-op feature in Mafia III.

If they do make Mafia 3, they have to go back to Lost Heaven, only in the 70's. Just try to imagine it. It would be awesome.
