Racecarlock
I mean, let's break this down here. Michael is just tommy vercetti if he moved, changed his name, and settled down with a family. Franklin is CJ with a slightly different face structure and less gangster cheese in his speech. Same gang but with a different name, same neighborhood but with a different name and street layout, same general attitude. I swear the most original guy here is trevor, because rockstar never threw in a crazy redneck as a protagonist in a GTA game before. Even then he still kind of reminds me of johnny klebitz but with less biker and more trailer park. I still look forward to playing their stories, but it seems all you need to do to cross the quantum dimensional rift that apparently exists between eras is slightly change your name and appearance or be an unimportant radio character in the previous era (Chris Formage was on Entertaining America in SA). Again, still really looking forward to the game.
Lucky32
You aren't making any sense here. In a way, all of the protagonists are similar.

djdiond
Oh come on, you have to admit that there are many similarities at least. Haha I actually agree, I was just taking the piss. Michael always reminded of Tommy and Franklin reminds me of CJ.
RomansMoobs
The guy from LCS is Micheal for sure. Tommy is Trevor. Franklin is CJ.
Fail_At_GTA
To me, Michael is Tommy after he won except in a different time period and such. Franklin is just a wannabe CJ, couldn't really care less. Trevor is original, but I do see some resemblances with Johnny, although Trevor hates the lost and killed a few members in his trailer.

DjMiikkii
White guy that seems somewhat Italian, must be Tommy! Black guy that is involved with Gangs in LA, must be CJ!
killahmatic
I've heard this argument 1000 times, and its crap to be honest. Early on it seemed that they could be similar, before we knew anything about them..but after seeing 5 trailers its more obvious than ever that these guys have personalities of their own, lives of their own. Rock Howard
Trevor is original Original in so far as being a playable GTA protagonist goes, but Trevor seems very similar to Marty J. Williams from Vice City Stories...

Nah, he's head of the trailer park mafia. Beats on his wife. His weapon of choice is also a baseball bat.
Stryfaar
Yeah, this guy. And no, completely different protagonists. A bit of similarities, yeah, but move on people, we're in the HD Era.

Wow, if that's not a spitting image of Trevor... but Rockstar has been creating these molds of characters, all having the same "I don't like my current moral standpoint, I'm going to try and better my life". It's getting kinda old and repetitive. John Marston Niko Bellic Luis Lopez Max Payne Micheal Franklin
Racecarlock
So if you think they are re-hash characters, I am interested to know what type of characters you think they should have made? Truthfully, I think these guys are the best possible. You've got michael for story, franklin for gangbanging, and trevor for general mayhem. They just have similarities with some III era characters, that's all I'm saying.

It's getting kinda old and repetitive. John Marston Niko Bellic Luis Lopez Max Payne Micheal Franklin I sorta agree with you, but I don't think Franklin's situation has anything to do with morals. I just think he wants to better his life financially and not get killed in the process like he said in the trailer. I think he's just an intelligent dude who knows gang banging won't get him anywhere, which is why he starts doing more professional crimes with Michael and Trevor. He's trying to become a better criminal, not a better person. That's just my opinion from what I've seen so far.
Rock Howard
Wow, if that's not a spitting image of Trevor... Yup, Trevor looks like he is basically Marty J. Williams but he's been made a playable character now.
JOSEPH X
Dan houser has already admitted in an interview that the premise of the game is to have three characters with intertwining stories, only do it better than in IV/EFLC. So the game is basically Niko, Johnny and Luis except they all inhabit the same gamespace.
CryptReaperDorian
One can say that Trevor is probably like what Claude would have been if he grew a tongue and completely lost his calm (not so much as "redneck" though, but insane nonetheless). Actually, Trevor seems to enjoy the killing, and so did Tommy Vercetti. Yeah, they're two very different characters, but they both strongly share a certain passion. Nopheros
So CJ traveled in time to 2013 or he didn't got any older in 20 years? (1993-2013) He didn't mean it like that, he meant that they are a lot alike. Both of them is in a gang, wearing the green color.. Grove street.. They are also both black if my information is correct, mate.
Typhus
How can Tommy and Michael be similar? Tommy did his time without ever naming names - despite knowing that Sonny set him up. Michael snitched on his friends at the first sign of trouble. Plus, Michael is far more personable than Tommy, who seemed to hate everyone he met - even those who tried to help him. Likewise, Franklin is nothing like CJ. Why? Well, it's simple - Franklin doesn't seem to give a sh*t about where he comes from or even have much loyalty to his friends. He wants to drop them like a bad habit and move up in the world. CJ was very loyal to his family and friends and really had the small-minded ambitions and outlook of a typical street criminal. Franklin seems far more ambitious than CJ and I'm willing to bet he's a far, far crueler man - if he makes a habit of letting his dog maul people. Completely different characters.
