The graphics in the IV trailers are much better than this, probably due to there being that much less going on, smaller map, less options etc... Mostly in the Franklin's and Michael's ones. A little bit. I think that it's a stylistic choice, and I think it's meant to make the characters' emotions more obvious. We've not yet achieved photorealism in our graphics, so it's best to not try and make them completely real looking and allow certain features to be exaggerated (like eyes, for instance) to better differentiate between characters and make them easily readable. The art director himself mentioned how photorealism is a "boring goal", which suggests to me that they're going for a more stylized look in GTA V. Honestly, the graphics are still very realistic, though. The lighting, color palette, etc., it looks close to real life in terms of what is represented. The only thing that looks a little bit exaggerated are the character models, and they're not so exaggerated that the game looks like a cartoon. RichyB Posted May 1, 2013 Share Posted May 1, 2013 I don't agree that GTA IV trailer graphics were better, but I do agree that there are too many fa**otty fan boys on the forum who are so hyped for the game that they have become somehow disillusioned to the quality of the graphics. They are good, but it's annoying me now how many people are going on like they're a huge leap forward in anything we've ever seen. There are games on current gen consoles with better graphics. Period. Now, the GTA V map is huge and because of that I know that the graphics can't be the most spectacular. I see the OPs frustration and he's probably just trying to counter the completely false notion that seems to have infected the forum that these new trailer graphics are somehow something special - they're not. I can't wait to see how it will look when it is inevitably eventually released on next gen consoles, that is where the real differences will be seen. Can anyone tell me one GTA title that had cutting edge graphics? It's never been about that. The map is the real star here, not the characters. Who cares if they're not photo-realistic. They're just fine. But the world looks great. The number of shadows projected in real time, the lightning, the amount of stuff going on in the background at any given time, you have to value that, because in the end that really is what's going to create the "vibe", the atmosphere that so many want so bad. To the OP, just compare the faces (and shadowing) in both games. That should clear up any discussion over which one has the visual edge. But don't misunderstand me, I love the Michael's new face, he looks a little bit younger and gained more charisma in my opinion. It's just that I think that they cartoonized a little bit the characters models. The rest keeps being awesome, like the shadows, the reflections, the shades of light, etc. But I personally think that Trailer 2 graphics were better. Of course, we're talking about a minuscule difference. If only they keeped that graphics with the Michael´s new face... Sorry if my english isn't perfect. I'm Venezuelan. I know a lot of people are going to say you're "trolling" but really it's just a matter of opinion. I honestly don't agree with it, but that's me, not you. People don't understand that on GTAF for some reason, when someone has an opinion different than theirs, they're "trolling." I think that the GTAV graphics are a whole lot better than GTA IV's, especially for it to be such a big map. The textures and character models are a lot better in my opinion. Everything seems so much smoother running and nicer looking than GTA IV. Edit: ^ that was a pre-release screenshot. They changed the look a lot. I think in the GTA IV section there is a thread comparing the beta screenshots with the final game, and that screenshot was in there I think.
