Rafe
with the trailers is because they were essentially just a series of cut-scenes strung together to appear as a traditional holly-wood movie trailer. There is really nothing novel about trying to turn a video game into a movie and i'm not saying that media that take control of the stick and force you to watch the narrative rather than create it is a bad thing when it's done conservatively, GTA series has never been overly oppressive in this regard. I'm sure GTA 5 will be good but i found myself more interested in pausing the screen and unhappy when the editing quickly switched from one scene to another rapidly rather than give me an opportunity to observe the ai pedestrians or actually shoot out gameplay, maybe gameplay of the dog being incorporated. I think i would rather the camera linger on Rodeo Drive( or the rockstar universe analogue) or watch as one of the main characters walks around Chateau Marmont ( or the rockstar universe analogue) than a character introduction. The real joy of GTA series has always been the world that is created that you can interact with, not the world that is created that you don't. Grand Theft Savage
Dog, it's a trailer. Trailer. TRAILER. Rockstar always does this with their trailers, man. DryJohnson45
I love I mad a list of music they should use for franklin's trailer before even knowing Franklin was going to have a trailer, and that song was on it and other songs by Jay Rock and Kendrick Lamar, not saying they saw me and took my idea or anything, just saying pretty cool. Rafe
Prepare for the huge amount of hate. IF the hate has a rational basis than i deserve it. I have watched all three trailers twice now and the only reason i was compelled to watch them a second time was to make sure i was accurate about my claims there isn't really any verifiable gameplay or something that looks obviously like gameplay. While the textures and the graphics and setting look great i think i would have actually got more out of stills or images than cut-scenes. What it all comes down to is i WILL BE buying GTA 5 because it is an open world game. I am not buying GTA 5 because i loved the movies "Analyze This" and the ensuing banter between tough guy and his psychiatrist as he displays his vulnerabilities, "Boyz in the Hood" and .. well i can't think of a Hollywood equivalent for Trevor. zainzombie
Hmm thats understandable. But I think majority WAS expecting the same holllywood movie type trailer, not because its better than watching gameplay but because most of the people knew thats how R* will do. I know I for one am not disappointed because I wasnt expecting any gameplay. Maybe you will enjoy the previews more than trailers.

downthrough
well to be honest i think that was the point. with 4 1/2 months left to release rockstar dont want to reveal too much just yet, with at least one if not two more trailers left before release. i think the quick cuts in the trailers were for exactly that reason, to give you glimpses of the map but not reveal too much at least not yet. especially with more screens and preview info coming this week im kinda glad they did it this way. Len Lfc
they were essentially just a series of cut-scenes strung together Isn't that what a trailer is meant to be though? I get what you're saying though, but these were character trailers, & theres isn't as much character to show of from gameplay or things like that. Sure, you could add dialogue over the gameplay, but it would still be cut & edited the same. & as others have said, it's always been like this, nothing new. There's never been full gameplay trailers for a GTA. I feel you'd like a trailer in the style of GTA IV's first trailer, & the gameplay series from recent Rockstar games, but don't get your hopes up for GTA V The Grand Theft Auto VI Leak Archive GTA VI Timeline of Events
shifty66
But isnt that the point of all GTA trailers? Not to show gameplay? so when we do play it we are suprised. I for one like the approach, we get some mad fu*king trailers which are very cinematic like. And then when we play and we are actually in control of the characters with the HUD and minimap walking down los santos...its gonna be amazing. And not something we have expected. So? I actually know that it's not what the game will be like. I still love cinematic trailers for games. I loved the Mass Effect ones too. I'm a big AC fan too, I love those games, they're a lot of fun, but I never base my opinions of their cinematic trailer & I never will. I simply enjoy watching them. If somebody gets the game because of that trailer & it turns out they don't like the game, they have nobody to blame but themselves for their own poor decision making. Not Ubisoft. bowling...?
I liked all if the trailers but Franklin's was the least interesting since it was predictable. With that aside we could have seen some gameplay. They could have used a dynamic camera to look at the player from a different view.
tinman187
From experience and you should know this better than most on here, most of GTA's trailers have always looked like cut-scene's only to be actual game-play footage with different in-game cinematic camera's. Look at the various trailer's from IV, they looked like cut-scene's and turned out to be actual game-play for e.g, some of the bank heist scene's in IV's trailer's looked like cut-scene's and turned out to be actual game-play, like the scene's when your fighting off the police trying to escape. They made those look like cut-scene's. But oh well, you can't please everyone Edited May 1, 2013 by tinman187
