Why jail on every bust would suck.

Jail, as it stands, is never designed to be a fun place to be. That's the big problem with this. But it's not the only problem. Not by a long shot.

See, people want the cops to be way tougher and way smarter than they were in IV, and I agree on that part. But this suggestion would have everyone who is bad at evading cops in jail 90% of the time because he got busted on one star.

"But one star is easy to evade!"

In IV it was, but all of you and even I want smarter and harder cops, which means more people are going to get busted more often. Do you really want to spend half an hour in jail every time a taser or a k9 unit gets you?

Next problem. Here we have this big fantastic world full of opportunities for crazy stunts, mayhem, or even just going to a night club, and anyone bad at evading cops will NEVER get to see it because they're spending all of their time in a dirty and dingy and gray by design building that's designed to be boring and horrible in every way imaginable. Oh he wants to go to a night club, but he gets busted every time he slightly nudges a ped with his car, and he's not a good driver. Essentially locking him off from the world completely.

It's not fun being in jail. It's designed not to be fun to be in jail. Maybe a few story missions in jail, but that's it. Not on every bust, never on every bust. That would suck.

While I disagree with you on a lot of other topics, I agree with you here. Having to go to jail is just completely stupid. However, having an accessible jail where you can start riots, jailbreaks etc. would be pretty neat.

I don't have any problems with a prison you can free roam into. Just being locked in that thing for 30 minutes to an hour because you hit a police car or something.

I'd put money on one of the protagonists serving a short stint in jail at some point during the story.

I think the reason the jail in GTA IV wasnt used because there was only one protag, maybe they thought it would limit the player if they had to serve time in jail for a period of time.

But with V theres three protags so it would be perfectly possible to switch to a character in the outside world and not keep the player confined to prison.

It could defo work and I'd be quite surprised they dont include some sort of jail time this time around.

I still say it would suck to lose your favorite guy to some fat cop with a taser.

Besides, what happens when all 3 get busted? Do you still have to serve out the whole sentence?

Wouldnt this make it fun to not get caught. Dont get busted and you wont serve time. Whats the thrill of a police chase with no repercussion? Thats why its no longer fun to run from police in gta.

Sure for low 1-3 star wanted levels jail seems pretty ridiculous. I'm sure there have been a lot of people who have though of what should happen at each star but something like a warning for one star, a ticket for two stars, and so on.... maybe when you get to 5 or maybe just the last star THEN if you get caught you could go to jail.

But I doubt that going to jail will happen, I mean I think it would be awesome but it seems like it would be pretty hard to make a working jail system.

This.

Maybe, when a protag spends time in prison, you play missions as the others which involve thinking of a plan and getting resources and members for a prison bust. While you're completing those missions, you could also be doing a prison mission story line where the protag who's in prison must survive until the others break him out.

Multiple protagonists could be great if Rockstar uses them correctly which I'm sure they will.

Maybe, but what happens if you suck at evasion? I don't, but I know someone out there does, and for him 90% of his playtime will be a hellish prison nightmare.

Shawshank Redemption was a great movie. But it would suck as a game.

I agree with you man, staying out of jail would make causing mischief that much more fun, cuz you have a reason to fear the cops cuz of the consequences, I honeslty hope the implement jail time every time the player gets busted

Or maybe everytime you get busted, you spawn in a cell in the prison, and then theres an option weather if you sleep in your bed, the time will advance to the point you are released from jail, or you can walk into a small red marker near your cell door to begin missions in the jail.

Then that makes everyone happy. If you don't wanna spend your time in the jail, just sleep in the bed and then you'll wake up out of jail. But if you wanna spend your time in jail, just step into the mission marker.

All 3 wouldnt get busted.

The idea I gave would be a story only scenario, getting thrown in jail everytime you get busted wouldnt work IMO

Being able to skip it would probably be the only way I would accept this mechanic.

If you've played Mafia 2 then you'll know what it's like to play a free-roam game in a jail, it defeats the purpose of free-roam. The whole purpose of GTA missions is the fact that they are all over the map, it would completely suck to have missions in a jail because when you complete it or are bored of them then you can't have fun, you either do nothing or do a mission.

Oh god chapter 6 don't remind me.

Great, now I need something to cheer me up.

Now I feel better.

Exactly! If you dont want your favourite protagonist to get arrested it will make the chases even more intense (with better cop A.I hopefully).

Plus if they add the prison time and you have to stay there for some time then I hope they dont apply that to everytime you get caught. I mean, for 1-3 stars you should be able to bribe the cops (which may or may not work all the time), for 4 stars you go to prison for 10 mins but if you are caught while blowing up the entire city then your protag should serve the longest jail time.

Its all speculation at this point though, Im not even sure they will add the full working prison system into the game.

In mafia 2 it wasn't boring being in prison. Especially when you came out and everything changed. Yes standing in a cell would be boring but prison fights and secret dealings could go on to make it more interesting.

Chapter 6 was the chapter that pushed me into hate territory. I mean, I have transformers on Ps2, meaning I could be optimus prime at any time, and this game has me cleaning toilets? f*ck mafia II.

jail would be nice, if you can escape or do other stuffs. Otherwise like gta sa, you respawn.

After spending time in jail once, and not being able to play the game until I get out or until I reload a game and lose recent progress, I am pretty sure I would not want to do it again.

Losing all my weapons is a plenty severe penalty for getting busted in the GTA games, gives me lots of incentives to avoid it. And the relative penalty for getting killed by the cops is hardly anything, since you just lose some money but respawn with all your guns. So I always go for the shootout to the death when I get trapped by the cops.

As people have pointed out in past threads, until the relative game penalty for getting killed is more severe than for getting busted, the whole arrest system is fairly irrelevant.

That may be OK, however, since I like the big shootouts smile.gif

I think he just means one of the three should end up in jail during the story-line. Not as an "each time you get busted" thing. Which actually, would be interesting. I can see Franklin messing up, Michael not being able to do anything to help him... Then Trevor decides to take Michael in guns blazing. Would make for a kick-ass mission.

They could add 2 options when you're arrested

1. go to jail

2. Skip

This would probably suit everyone they don't have to make it as strict as real prison been on lockdown all the day they could also add side activities smuggling drugs in, doing hits for prison gangs etc I'd really like to see it.

If you think about it tho thats the idea of jail to confine you, in real life you are essentially free to do as you please just like in GTA you are free do as you please as long as you dont get caught once you do you have to man up and face the consequences, it would be the same idea but in the game world if you wanna go on a mass murder killing spree then by all means but once you get caught you have to face the consequences and im pretty sure R* isnt gunna give the play a 25 to life sentence it will probably be a couple of hours to a couple of days spent in jail depending on how severe the crime was and they might even give us the option to bribe the cops to let us walk free who knows, Im all for the jail experience i dont want to do it in real life but in the game you can make your experience in jail alot of fun, imo it should be like a sub-culture but with the criminal underworld

If this jail concept is in the game it will just add to the realism that we all love as long as its not too realistic im all for it, I dont want to be locked up in a cell for 23 hours and let out for an hour in the day, jail in the game should be like a play pen where you spend more time out of the cell then in it you can roam around the jail but you cant leave the jail complex until you have served you time but you should have the option of trying to escape jail that would be cool just to spice things up

But GTA isn't real life. I don't play GTA to experience real life consequences. I mean, why not throw in taxes for the sake of realism while we're at it? Once a month you get to experience the tedium of signing 200 W-2 forms or whatever.

This isn't reality, this is GTA. Jail is boring, I'd rather be flying a plane.
