TheOnlyCollins
Remeber in San andreas when you could buy an abundance of houses which basically became more or less derelict after purchase? Imagine this with three characters? The logistics would be a nightmare. For instance wanting to enter Franklins safehouse as Trevor, surely R* wouldnt allow you to. Howabout an alternative in the likes of skyrim. 1 or 2 safe houses that are fully upgradable and customizable? Much more realistic and it gives a use for money within the game. Maybe this could be part of the functioning economy that R* teased in November. Thoughts below...
r0eladn
Upgradable safehouses is one of the better ideas ive seen here. Upgrading to a larger garage and weapon room and what not. nice.
Zancudo
They've scraped the property purchasing for the story. It doesn't fit to the characters. Michael is meant to live in his big house, Franklin should live wherever he'll live and Trevor should stay at his smelly cabin in the desert. Imagine Michael living in some trailer on the desert, or Trevor living in some exclusive place in Beverly Hills.
LeFox
I agree with you, maybe we could like, decorate the floors and walls, and maybe go furniture shopping, and be able to move the furniture around when you press a button. It would also be cool if you are able to buy a mini garage building (with 3 floors of parking), and each parking slot saves the car there.

However the idea of this "making it big" with the heists could change this a little. Imagine if they all became millionaires after a big heist, would you really still have Trevor in a cabin in Blaine country?
OmegaEvolution
I liked Chinatown war's trophy cabinet feature in the safehouse.

rjmthe2nd
like Saints Row 2 but better. Michael should have 1 safe house and a hotel to sleep in. Franklin should have his house in the hood, and then one on the beach. Trevor should have one in the country and one in the desert and then they should all be able to set up a tent in the woods for a day. would be good. RandomNoun
I don't think safe houses will have the same function as they have in previous games. I think you'll mostly see safe houses when you switch characters now. I also think vehicles will be saved automatically upon character switch. For example, if you're driving a car as Michael and you switch to Trevor, the next time you switch to Michael he will be at home and the car will be in his garage. At least, I believe it'll be something like this.
Jordan_Philip
I definitely agree. Multiple safe houses for each character is not needed. But what about businesses or property with actual use. Remember the money printing plant and the car dealership in vice city? Remember the air strip in san andreas? Thats the kind of stuff I want back in V. Maybe, but I still don't think it would flow with the game's theme. Remember they're not out to create a criminal empire. I think it'll be structured very Ocean's 13 like. Degrees
Those hotels especially the ones out in the middle of nowhere might be useful.

Yea i get that but if assets arent part of V and the only differences between IV and V are 3 characters, planes, and countryside then where does the "bold new direction in open world gameplay" come in? creed200569
I agree that buying houses doesn't fit the story or the characters but its still nice to b able to buy places n make money off of them.
Fail_At_GTA
Staying at hotels overnight seems the most likely to me. Being able to trash the hotel room and escape with a wanted level would be pretty fun lol.

Look at Paris Hilton for instance As long as we can save our game in a lot of locations, which i'm pretty sure with a map this size we will be able to, I'll be happy. Would be cool if we can upgrade these places like some people here have said like bigger garages, bigger rooms for guns, safes etc. Just because we don't buy them, doesn't mean we can't gain them. I want to be able to save the game in an RV or something like that (like the tent).
Guest
I think it works better if you don't buy the safehouses. In the older GTAs and RDR all they really were was a meaningless savepoint. For the "companies" they didn't really mean much either. Couple of missions and you get money from them. And yes, Michael is supposed to live in his fancy mansion. He lives with his family, does his things there. He should be in his house in certain cutscenes, we should actually feel like we live there. When we pass by it should look like "my home" not "my savepoint".
