EvilFuture
Alright, so I was thinking of this earlier today, but I just now decided to make this thread. Imagine if during the storyline, there was a full year cycle that goes along with it. Anyone who has played the game "Bully" knows that this feature was in the game. There's one mission that is on Halloween, I think that eventually it turns winter and it snows. Now, I'm not saying that it will do this non stop, I'm saying just during the storyline. The game is set in 2013, so when the story is over, it will be 2014. I think it would work pretty good and add something fresh and new to GTA. Since Michael and Franklin have families, for example, there would be a part in the story when we celebrate Christmas with out families or something. Since Trevor doesn't have anybody (that we know of) he could just celebrate it by himself and buy booze with it . What do you think? In your opinion, would it fit in a game like GTA? Discuss. ForDaNords
I'd bloody love it, and it's definitely possible. And also, LA doesn't get any snow so they wouldn't have to change the map for the seasons -- except for fall, they'd have to make the trees lose leaves. Several examples are Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (Scored an average of 8.5, considered to be the best AC game by most AC fans), Metro 2033 (Scored an average of 7.5, every non-reviewer who played it say it's one of the best games ever) and Morrowind (Same thing as Metro.) Dick Valor
I don't see how this would work without skipping forward in time. Every GTA story so far has lasted maybe 2-3 in-game months, so how the hell would you even make it to Christmas if the story starts in spring or summer? Every GTA story so far has lasted maybe 2-3 in-game months, so how the hell would you even make it to Christmas if the story starts in spring or summer? if the story were written/implemented differently. just cuz its been one way in the past doesnt mean things cant change. AC 3 allows for this when you clock sync at the end of the game, not to mention the story just went through seasons as well.

Yeah agreed I'm extremely picky over games and mafia 2, uncharted 3 and max payne 3 are the only games I've really enjoyed recently, I couldn't suggest mafia 2 enough really. OT I hope we get seasons in the story I think it'd work really well for GTA v.

This go off of word of Mouth don't put much if any thought into what the scores from the "Professionals" say. Unless they're exceedingly low (Sub 5's) then there isn't really much to worry about unless you hear just about every gamer on every forum saying it's crap. Generally my rule is if it has 7+ it has to at least be worth a deeper look into if it sounds like something I'd like. Reviews are good to see what's in a game but it shouldn't be all you go off of. On the topic at hand, I wouldn't mind it, it could add something, personally I'd just like it for the possiblity of snow in the mountain areas, I realize there wouldn't be much it being based on So Cal and all but it would be neat to have in some remote corner(s) of the map. It could add some moments in storymode as well but nothing ground breaking.
GrandMaster Smith
LA doesn't really see a variety in weather. It's usually spring/summer year round down there.. so adding seasons would be a little pointless I think. We have desert, we have the forest, farmlands and huge mountains. I'm sure we'll see enough variety just within the map without the need for an entire year cycle. It'd be cool to see and all but a little unneeded I feel for how much trouble it'd be. The most I could see would be halloween sh*t and xmas lights put up during that time of year, other than that I'm not sure what good it'd do. Gummy
Driver Parallel Lines had 2 different years, each year has different road textures, city textures, cars, and peds, So If it's a season in GTA V I wouldn't minds seeing different stuff. Guest
On the subject of years, wouldn't it be cool if R* used a bit of the huge amount of money they get from GTAV to progress the game parallel to the real world? IE. say a new Lamborghini comes out in the real world, R* would create a new Infernus model, change a few billboards, advertise the vehicle on the radio, and add it in-game (not as paid-DLC but a free update). Or they could slowly build a new bridge leading to a small island, and everyone can visit the closed down bridge and see the progress of the bridge and the island until the island is finished, bridge opens up and everyone can visit it. It would be a small island though, a bit like Big Surf Island for Burnout Paradise, only it'd be free so as not to split up multiplayer.
richard1997jones
Yes, finally someone wants a full year. I hated the fact IV was set in winter and you could see his breath. It was realistic but I'd like it to snow if you have winter. Ok LA with snow How about like RDR up in the mountains with snow to replicate winter
Miss Darko
^IV was set in the fall, actually. @LazyboyEight The problem with having things be kept up-to-date (like with car models and the radio) is that GTA games are period pieces even when they're set in present day. They touch upon themes relevant to that time, and have an atmosphere which reinforces the setting. Keeping it up-to-date would start to make the game inconsistent, have music from late '14 or even '15 even though the game is set in '13, and things start to feel strangely un-synced. See, the datedness of the game is ok when it's treated like a period piece, with music, technology, and cultural references to that era. It gets wrong when you introduce elements not from that era. With many games, this wouldn't be a problem, but it is for GTA because of the large amount of contemporary cultural satire and effort to create a sense of 'being' in that place and time. So these ideas sound good, but they could end up making all that hard work for nothing by ruining the illusion.

I'm not suggesting that R* update GTAV to the point Trevor is flying a spaceship and Michael lives on the moon, just that maybe for a year R* update the game's atmosphere to the point that it doesn't capture a month in 2013, but 2013-14 as a whole. It worked in Mafia, it would work in V. And yes, IK it'll never happen.

NortheyD
Does anybody know roughly how many in-game days it took to complete IV's storyline? Buffalo Soldier
I would adore it. Seeing snow at the beginning of Mafia II aswell - just added a whole different feel to the game. Can't see them doing it though - which sucks.

Tall Trees was my favorite place to go on that game and I would always go stand on a big rock and go hunting There is a little bit of hope for snow because of that artwork with Trevor and snow on the mountains. Maybe somebody will confirm if it's in the game or not on the previews next week
gta5freemode4eva
In some of the leaked information (some of which has turned out to be true) they said that the games' story does take place over a whole year. I think that seasons would be a brilliant way to keep the game fresh Also things like christmas decor, halloween stuff, easter etc etc
