Kevin... Posted April 27, 2013 Share Posted April 27, 2013 I got a pit terrier mix (smaller than normal pit but visually similar) and a pit border collie mix. I dunno why people run scared from these dogs. OK got two kids, 1 and 3, and they are wonderful around them. They take so much abuse and just sit there. The kids walk on them, jump on them, tug on them, hurt them, and they just sit there. Hell, I can be rough housing with them and getting pretty physical and one of the kids could step in and they just calm down. It happened once with the oldest of my two dogs, Kaine. He was wrestling and play biting (still can be painful) and my son, 2 at the time, somehow got between Kaine and I and as Kaine went to bit on to me, he stuck his arm in the mix. Kaine ended up with a toddler arm buried in his throat and looked at me as if he was saying "really, I just wanted to play with you. Why is he here?" Hit up a shelter or a humane society. I'm with Kevin on this. I have a stafford (basically a pit terrier) and she's the friendliest dog you'll meet. I love dogs, but they are so much work, you shouldn't even get a dog unless you're 100% serious about it, not "Oh you want a puppy? Here's a puppy." Nobody ever thinks that once they get a dog, they are going to have it for the next 10-15 years, and if you don't plan the dog, and you don't train it properly, you're going to have a sh*t bag dog for that time, you can't go places without the dog/have to put it in a kennel without its owners for a time, you need to give it attention, if you live in the city, and you get anything bigger than a poodle, it needs to be walked all the time, keeping it locked in the backyard is just wrong. So it's either a choice of giving the dog back to the owner or keeping the dog and putting her up for adoption (may have to explain what adoption is to her) that way the dog will go back to the owner and you wont have to buy a new dog!
