The Americans

Anyone else seen FX's new TV show, The Americans? It's pretty awesome. The show is set in the 1980s. The Americans tells the story of two KGB spies working deep cover in Washington D.C. as a married couple with two children and working in a travel agency. The Spies, Elizabeth (Keri Russel) and Philip (Matthew Rhys) Jennings, are completely contradictory to one another. Elizabeth's patriotism towards the Soviet Union is unquestionable, and undying. On the other hand Philip has conflicted views on his home country and the country he has been assigned to commit espionage against. He's fascinated by the American lifestyle and even questions 'why are the Americans so "bad?"' The couple's kids are regular American teenagers, and are completely unaware of their parents spy activities.

 

Trouble for the couple surrounds them in all different forms. Their neighbor Stan (Noah Emmerich) is an FBI Agent working for Counter-Intelligence, and there are many other issues they face such as protecting fellow KGB operatives and struggling with their own home life.

 

I highly recommend this show. The concept of having "villain protagonists" and moral ambiguity seems to be relatively popular in TV lately.
