[WIP] Timecyc for GTA SA

The timecyc.dat file is one of the things that I love in the GTA modding scene. It is relatively easy to edit, and the results are awesome.

I have a nice collection of timecycs, and now I decided to make one. I looked at some GTA V screenshots, and I will try to carry the Los Santos of 2013 back to the 2004 one.

For the beginning, I just edited the sky colors of the sunny weather, to have a basic idea of what can be done.

Some screens:

Here's the file - Timecyc.dat

And let me know what you guys think. I'm open to suggestions.

Can you use another hoster please? I don't want to create a 4shared account just for downloading...

Alright, I've changed the link on the first post. Hosted on Mediafire now.

You can download the In-Game Timecyc Editor, to make editing easier .. And change more than skycolours.

methodunderg - Yeah, I'm using the In-Game Timecyc Editor. For now, I'll just play with the sky colours. For the color corrections and reflections, I need to study the trailers some more, this will be the next step.

First and last screens look like a very bad gradient .. icon13.gif

i don't know if its fixable or not, but a nice dither shader would easily solve that problem .. Pity SweetFX's Dither shader only works on the results that SweetFX's shaders produce.

I took the pictures with the camera, and the game store the images in low quality jpg.

However, the gradient is still visible in game too.

I'm not sure what to do with cloudy and rainy weathers. We'll have more info about the GTA V next tuesday, I hope to see something related to these climates.

No, I use a mod for the draw distance. The draw distances values in the timecyc are the same as the original pc version.

Finally the mod is online at gtagarage. I also edited several things.

If you people show some interest, I may continue developing this.

Death2Drugs

This is a very nice mod. icon14.gif

Though it's quite nice, if you want to be more realistic, you can make the top skies more blueish. That's all.

No offense, but the gradients look bad.

I guess the number of the sky colours are limited on SA engine, don't? There's no way to fix this?

I agree, the gradients can look ugly at some points. Like extra sunny 5AM, it burns my eyes! D:

Anyway, does anyone know of a fix for the holes in the map with a big draw distance? I know ThirteenAG made one, but it has a weird bug when jumping.. screenshots below.

About the sky gradients, I know, they're not good. But even with the default timecyc they appear, so it's no "my fault"

I don't know if there's a fix for this. Perhaps exists, but it must be much more complex than edit some sky colors.

Just as a question, did you edit the color correction or not?

Not yet. Right now I'm testing a range of colours to at least minimize the gradients.

Sky bottom | Sky top.

These colors will create a gradient on sky in straight line as on shown on HSV palette:

user posted image

Literally. Sky top and bottom is gradually mixed together with colors that lie in straight line on HSV palette.

On attached picture there will be gradual change of following colors:

Sky top:

Pink

Red

Yellow

Sky bottom

It's recommended to set up these two color angles somewhat similar, if let's say angle of first color was 0 and the angle of second color was 180, then gradient would go through the center of palette to create a straight line - white color would appear in the middle of the sky.

In this post i skipped information about color value, transition of value (color brightness) is simple to understand. If sky top color value is 70 and sky bottom color value is 30, then let's say in the middle of sky there will be color value (70+30)*0.5
