JStarr31
We have no proof that you can switch characters at will. UMMMMMMMMM.... Yes we do. The Characters- Building off the idea of multiple playable characters introduced in Episodes of Liberty City, Grand Theft Auto V stars three main protagonists. - Michael is a retired bank robber who is living a life of luxury thanks to a sweetheart deal with the FIB. But when his wife burns through all his money he is forced to get back in the game. - Trevor is a frequent drug user who is prone to violent outbursts. A former military pilot, he used to rob banks but now he scrapes to get by living on the fringes of Los Santos society. - Franklin is a hustler who works for an Armenian scam artist who sells young kids cars they can’t afford. When they default on the loans, Franklin repossesses the cars. He crosses paths with Michael when looking for a bigger score. - Players can switch between these characters at any time when they are off mission. - Rockstar says due to the heavy volume of voiceover recording sessions, celebrities don’t make sense as options for lead characters. Like Niko Bellic before them, Michael, Franklin, and Trevor will all have unknown voice actors. - Each main character has a few unique hobbies that only they can participate in. - Though Rockstar wouldn’t name specific characters, it confirmed that some familiar faces from Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes From Liberty City may resurface in Los Santos. - Niko Bellic will not be one of the recurring characters. - Characters from the PS2 era of Grand Theft Auto games will not appear, either. [sOURCE] The world may be big, but just how much will there be to do in it? Will it be big just for sake of it or will there be some use to sections? Rockstar wanted to make a large world to make flight compelling again, but don’t worry about not having stuff to do. The developers are bringing over the amazing dynamic mission structure featured in Red Dead Redemption to keep players engaged while they explore the game world. Since the lead characters live in very different areas of the map, live switching between them is a quick way to get across the map and discover what lies in a new area. kesta195
We have no proof that you can switch characters at will. ...yes we do. Prove it Maybe you should pay more attention to official GTAV news. I don't have time to sift through previews to find it for you, this is the kind of stuff you should already know. See post above.
Kushi_Pete
Stranded in the dark and violent desert, Trevor Phillips, a lone, hardboiled, fugitive drug addict, framed for the murder of a cop. On a quest for vengence through the criminal underworld in the desert's heart of darkness. Trevor thinking: The night was grim as death. The rain was coming down like all the angels in heaven and I decided to take a piss at the same time. I felt right at home. In a situation like mine, you can only think in metaphors. They had confiscated all my crank. They were going to pay. Dope-peddling cops in their expensive suits were crawling out of the woodwork all around me. The only suits they were going to wear after tonight were body-bags. Cop: It's Trevor Phillips! Get him! Get the freaking bum! (Gunshots) Trevor: Your trial will be held at the trailer park morgue. (Gunshots) Cop: Ahh! Trevor thinking: I had a permanent, constipated grimace on my face. I was revenge personified.

ugotsmoked
- Players can switch between these characters at any time when they are off mission. Right and I remember reading that at the time and most people ( myself included ) seemed to feel they would take that feature out. Otherwise it is way too easy to escape the cops. Nemesis2252
like in TBOGT, maybe you will have a friend that could drive and drop off a vehicle to you. or like others have mentioned, maybe you could call a taxi, or tow truck, or even just switch characters. i dont think there will ever be a time where you are ''stranded'' with no option of getting out. hell, if all else fails, just call 911 on your iFruit and request police assistance in the middle of the desert
DODI3OG
I'd just walk and search for roads, then wait and steal a vehicle but also killing the person I steal it from. This. I remember doing the Gerry McReary strain of missions in GTA 4. You had to go to the Alderney Correctional Facility w/c was kind of deserted area and it was in the middle of the night. Vehicles were scarce and so are Taxis. I hitched a Taxi when I found one, and to my dismay, I accidentally jacked him out of his cab which ended up as a fist fight between of us. Ben73
There will probably always be a road somewhere nearby. It's not like you will be forced to walk back to the city. This I why I am not extremely fond of switching characters at any time. When I play a game I want to feel like I am living their life, not just "oh you're in a bad situation, im switching, bye"

Ermac_
I think it would be cool if you rarely see a car drive by on a back road somewhere, so if you miss your chance to catch it, your walking.

ChillyPhilly
I would quite like to get stranded. Just imagine: - Stuck in the middle of the woods, or desert. It's night time and pitch black, no moon, just a load of stars scattered like shiny, silver pepper across the sky. - Car is broken down. You can get in it, but the lights are ridiculously dim and the engine refuses to start. - No cellphone reception. - The nearest road is just 500m away, but you have to scale two whole hills to get there. - Little animals and nocturnal birds whiz around you. - A gentle breeze blows around your surroundings. You would be able to appreciate certain places so much more.

GTAspotter
If the countryside is anything like the SA countryside then good luck getting lost, you probably won't be any further than a 30 seconds walk away from the nearest road.

TakinThyBacon
From the sounds of it I doubt that any are is stranded, I would think that with the addition of "pedestrians performing every day tasks" we will see people camping or mountain biking ect. in the stranded areas. In short...civilization will never be terribly far away. But This is purely my own speculation
kesta195
I actually hope that the desert is big enough for you to feel stranded if you lost your vehicle.

Booya818
OP - if your car ain't blown up the 'mechanic' skill may play a part here. It will be interesting to see what solution R* gives us to being stranded with a blown up car.
Carmelo2
I for one will not be switching protags if I get stranded out in the wilderness. Making your way back to the city/civilization would be hella fun.
Supercrammer
You could buy a taxi company so if you own that I'm sure you can just call your company to pick you up for free. However, if you hadn't bought then it becomes Man vs. Wild and you must slice your way to civilization.
