GKP
Im 28 - so fortunate that even when GTA1 came out when I was 13 - gfx were so primitive my parents really didnt have no problem it. There must be a good number of you who are 12-15 who are keen to play V ( as I would of been at that age). Anyone here who is having to beg borrow or steal the money and play in 'secret' or with the volume low in case your parents find out ? Are there REALLY parents out there who would not allow their 17 year old child to play a 18 rated game ?..and Im not talking religious sects either, I mean regular parents ? GrandMaster Smith
Honestly no, I doubt 90% of parents give two sh*ts what they buy their children, as long as it shuts them up. I'm 20-odd years young so I have nothing to worry about though
GKP
ah I should clarify - for those whos parents DONT care - you needn't post - as its true most dont. Those who are or who will have a hard time go ahead..
œaœa
I would tell my dad (when I was 7) about my day in Liberty City.. and how "Chunky" Lee Chong had it coming.
RichyB
When GTA IV came out I was 17 so my GF at the time surprised me with it, never had to worry about my parents though they'd have probably bought it me if I'd asked they're not radicalists. I'm 22 now so will have no issues buying it but I seriously hope that parents are stricter than mine because I can't be arsed with a bunch of 13 year old fa**ots on multiplayer telling me how fat my mom is or how they are going to sexually gratify her. DODI3OG
My mom is not fine with me shooting people, hearing explicit words and seeing adult scenes. Though, I'll play the game when she's still at her office; before she arrives at home.

Argon
Yeah, nothing special here. Just one of those that got away with anything, mom couldn't care less about videogames 'and those kids nowadays'. Dad was always interested in the hardware and possibilities each new console brought. He has seen me play adult games back in the days, and he would nod with this smile like 'is THAT really something you like'. But I was always calm and not trowing anything across the room. Buying those games was never a big deal in the Netherlands. They are a bit more tight about that know, though.. A kid in my neighbourhood does have these kind of parents. He once got a birthday book when he was 11, and the book was rated 12+. He had to wait a couple of months before he was allowed to read it. (a book, for god's sake!) I gave him San Andreas for a couple of days in secret, and man his parents were mad at me. The guy is an adult know, but I think he is still not allowed to play V. Time to move out. Off topic: I do worry about those parents that just do not seem to mind when their CoD kids are screaming all that crap through there headsets. I would be so embarrassed to say those words while in front of a screen, with my headset on, juice and snacks next to me and my father looking at me 'can't you go outside for once?'. ClaudeSpeed1911
When I was a kid my parents never gave a dam about what I play so I played anything that I could get my hands on and I'm fine. When I become a father I will test my son if he is mature enough to play GTA.
ReliantRodney
I am 17 years old and am considered underage to play a videogame. Despite this, I'm about to start a career in the military. f*ck logic.
tomi19
Nah, I'm 19 right now and I played GTA III, VC and SA with less than 15 years old. My parents never said a thing. Actually, my dad used to stay up at night to play GTA III, lol. He loved the songs too. Great times.

Apex.
I remember when I was younger I knew I wasn't allowed GTA San Andreas, so when I went to my Nan's house for the day and brought the PS2 and plugged it in my bedroom, we went to a Blockbuster and somehow, I really don't know how, I managed to rent San Andreas, the lady the counter was like "Are you sure you're allowed this?" and my Nan was all like "Yeaah he's fine" because I was covering up the 18 stamp Oh elderly people! We got back to my Nan's house, I popped it in the PS2 and I remember not knowing how to ride the bike, I was stuck on that bit for like 15 minutes then my Mum came to pick me up and found me playing it, and took it off me. THE JOKES ON HER I BOUGHT IT ON PSN A COUPLE MONTHS BACK!!! Edited April 19, 2013 by Apex.

AuSsIeThUnDeR36
Well myself, I'm 38 and the parent of a 13 year old and he doesn't play much on Ps3. He spends most of his time out in the fresh air and is a champion cross country runner. I am buying GTA V for myself to play. He isn't interested in Grand Theft Auto, I supervise him on what he can play and it's for his own good. I don't want to be that father that picks their son up from police lockup at 4am. The only gtas I bought him that I allow him to play is Vice City and San Andreas, which are dust collectors on the shelf. He hardly plays them he likes Minecraft. My father was strict with me and I turned out ok. Not to say there's real bad parenting skills out there and other kids learn from their parents mistakes unfortunately. TheIllaDopest
mine didnt either, of course they never knew what the game was really like haha. I let my son play it only because his older brother has it and plays it (IV along with RDR). My son is a good kid and is a straight A student. I see nothing wrong with him playing games like this as long as he knows right from wrong. Besides we have a f***ing blast playing online together, its a real father son bonding moment. S*** ive heard worse things come out of the mouths of COD players when playing BO.
Kushi_Pete
The year was 2002. I was 7-8 years old and was going with my father to the store to buy Vice City for PC but noooo. It wasn't even released yet so I got III instead.
Mister Pink
I was 18 when San Andreas came out. My Dad used to not like us playing top-down GTA's. He thought they were too violent. Again, it's someone just walking in the room as you just so happen to splatter some pedestrians and then they think the only reason I play the game is for that. Next time my Dad walked in on me playing GTA is when I was about 24 or 25 during the blow-job scene in TBoGT. I think GTA has evolved from the top-down GTA's haha. Seriously though, if you are bringing your children up normally in every other aspect of their lives then your children should be able to play games underage. People don't give kids enough credit for their intelligence. Instead they try shelter them ridiculously, then when they get older they realise. DarkDayz
Well i've been old enough for a loooooong time, but can see the problem with the youth/adult system. When you have to give the system money (public transport for example) you are considered an adult and have to pay an adult fee at the age of 16, but can't buy alchohol or a mature entertainment product because then your not considered an adult to them. This is UK law, it's ridiculous.

GTADrinkandRock
I feel sorry for the folks who have parents who are so tightly wound that they don't get to enjoy things like violent video games. I played them all the time when I was very young. While everyone else was playing Reader Rabbit and Math Blaster, I was playing Quake and Doom, and other violent games. Then again, I was smart enough to know not to emulate those games at school. Unfortunately some kids just copy everything they see or hear and that makes for bad things. I'm glad to be old enough to go into the store and buy whatever I want. I'm also glad that my nephew and nieces also are allowed to play GTA. The way I spend quality time with my 10 year old nephew is by loading up GTA IV and taking turns. Like I did with the older people around me when I couldn't get past a certain part of a game, he'll ask me for help and I'll help him. He doesn't have X-Box Live though, so no danger of him going online and talking smack. We don't even really talk smack when we play anyway. Sometimes we'll curse at the screen or when we send Niko or one of the other protagonists on a really long fall... Even with video games I get that sense of "Oh Shiahhhhh!" I can't wait for V to come out. By then I'll have my own game console and will be able to invite the nephew and nieces over to play the game.
