I love the old-school tone in the game. I just hope they don't screw the story at the end. I'd rather prefer an open-ending finale than a crappy explanation.

Finished the first 3 chapters of the game. So far, I haven't been really scared at all. Alien Isolation has been more nerve wracking than this game. But, things could change. Maybe the game gets scarier as I get farther.

I just want to state that this game has the worst graphics out of any game on current generation consoles. The textures are sh*t. The character models are laughable due to how undetailed they are. The frame rate is a joke (especially during action packed cut scenes). It's a technical nightmare.

There are also some awkward camera angles if you get into a certain position with your character, which can be annoying.

But, other than that, I do enjoy exploring all the different buildings, so I can gather up ammo, health, green glob, etc. Even though this game is a "linear" game. There are plenty of areas you can explore that makes it feel more open world like. I also like the scarciety of supplies. Definitely puts you on the edge if you only have 1-2 bullets or 0 matches left.

I also like how there is over 100 collectibles in the game. Collectibles is always great for immersion and helping out with the story.

My positives and negatives so far

+
Great exploration gameplay
Plenty of collectibles to loot
Scarciety of ammo and supplies
Good enemy design (variety of enemy character models)
Awesome bosses
Game is HARD (there are a sh*tload of ways that you can die)

-
Graphics/frame rate are complete sh*t
Boring protagonist with weak voice acting
Not much of a story so far
Awkward camera angles

I'm really hoping for a patch. But, I read that Bethesda are notorious for not caring for their console fans and probably won't care that the game needs fixing. So, we probably won't get a patch.

I was thinking the same thing technically at first and almost brought back this game but the following 2 things helped a lot... play in Survivor Mode... the easy mode seem to artificially slow things down and somehow worsen the framerate. and second thing put your PS4 or xbox 1 in 720p.. this will make this game a lot more fluid and also look actually better. let me know if that helped. with a smoother gameplay I'm actually starting to enjoy it a lot and graphically it's actually pretty good.

Hmm I feel the opposite. I really want a 100% hole proof ending that explains everything. I'm doubtful though. 5 more chapters to go....please no cliff hangers... Edited by gta_aus

Here are some general tips I noted after 8hrs into the game...

Also I found a way to beat safe head easily without wasting any ammo.

This game makes you use your head more than your reflexes. I like it.

Well, I can't play in Survivor mode yet as this is my first playthrough. I will play the hardest difficulty after I beat the game though. Never heard about the 720p tip though. It would make the resolution closer to the native resolution of the game. So, maybe it would work? Anyone else can vouch for lowering the resolution to 720p to make the game look better?

It's my first play through as well and it let me choose survival difficulty without playing through casual mode first. God damn I can't wait to see how hard the Akumu difficulty is, I'll probably last half hour and then get pissed off and rage quit.

First few chapters, and I already pooped my pants.

Game is sick so far (that's good btw). Doesn't rely on Jump scares too much from what I've seen so far, obviously they are there, but it's more subtle. Like an enemy lurking, and me sneaking around is scarier than something jumping out, and I've had plenty of that so far. I love the Hiding and Stealth Aspects, reminds me of Outlast in some areas.

Only gripe I had was the whole 'Cinematic' camera for gameplay. I thought it was just temporary at start, but it turns out it continues like that. It's weird at first but you get used to it, I kind of like how different it is now.

ALSO, 'DAT MUSIC. Seriously perfect choices, so atmospheric. I even stopped in some parts to listen to it.

the only gripe I have is with the camera angle. The graphics are fine to me, I love the art direction. To me is about how well crafted the environment is, its not about how high the texture resolution is etc.

The camera is a bare sometimes. But not enough for me to complain. Great surroundings just makes me forget about it. Just like the cinematic screen, I already forgot about it.

Am I the only one who hasn't really been scared at all playing this game? Even playing by myself and at night, it's just not scary at all for me. It's just another action game with limited resources and the enemy are zombies. Nothing scary about this game with the exception of some nervous moments when you have to fight the bosses.

Outlast scared me so much that I would be making excuses to not play it at night. This game I can play comfortably. Kinda a let down to be honest. I was hoping this would be a lot scarier. I'm at chapter 10 by the way.

I would say Outlast is scarier than The Evil Within too. I haven't really been scared playing it either. I did get scared probably like four or five times in Outlast. It was just one of those dark games that could have used a flashlight. The camera was okay they let you use. But if they throw in a flashlight in the second Outlast, I would be happier. But then again it wouldn't feel like Outlast with a flashlight. LOL.

This game is not scary at all but the weirdness and sickness makes this game fantastic. What is your opinion about the P.T demo? For me it's the scariest thing i've ever played.

Tried the PC demo, this "game" is a joke. Ofcourse it's not scary, the only nightmare in this game are controls, infamous bars, poorly optimization, and horrible graphic that look like they were made back in 2004, some ten years ago ! Compared to this Far Cry 2004 for e.g. is a game from the future. It's an awful game and a disaster, yuck.

Just finished the game. Almost spent an entire month playing through this game. Mostly because I've been busy. But, by the end, it took me 19 hours to beat it and if I remember correctly, I died 58 times and played it on casual difficulty. Most of those deaths came at the last chapter. f*ck me that was a hard chapter.

Overall, I enjoyed it. I'd probably give it an 8 out of 10. Somewhere around there. It wasn't amazing, but it definitely wasn't a waste of money. I'm glad I bought it. I've mentioned this many times, but the technical issues are by far the worst part of this game. It probably would have been a 9 or 9.5 if the technical issues were fixed and the graphics were much more impressive.

My negatives would be - Numerous technical Issues, poor graphics, black bars, etc.

Sebastian was a boring and uninteresting lead character and the voice acting was weak for him. There was no energy, excitement, fear, sadness, no emotion really whatsoever in his voice. Definitely a big let down. The voice acting for Kidman and Joseph also could have been better. Not much energy in their voices either.

Positives - Enemy design (bosses especially) were top notch.

Level design was also great. There weren't really two levels that were similar. Pretty much, each level had it's own unique look to it

Lots of collectibles and loot. I love games where there are collectibles and loot and if I remember correctly, there is over 100 collectibles, so that's always a positive. Collectibles always help with immersion and loot makes you explore the map more, so that's why I was happy to see plenty of loot and collectibles.

Just finished it as well. 20:31 and 137 deaths on survival, what an adventure. Highly disappointed by the ending though. Love the model viewer and the info it gives on the monsters. Anyway going to start a new game on Akumu, I'll probably last 10 minutes before rage quitting 😆

So, I beat the game like I previously mentioned and now when I go to the difficulties, the third difficulty mode has popped up, but I can't seem to find the Akumu mode?

You have to beat it on survival and then you unlock Akumu.

"One hit and it's all over. Worse than Nightmare, this is pure hell." Yeah I can see some controllers being smashed here with an end result of 300 hours and 10,000 deaths.

I thought it was awesome, probably my favorite game of the year even though it does do a lot to piss you off, it also does a lot to kind of make you feel like you don't want to play.. In that it's overwhelming but able to be beaten, anyone play on nightmare mode? I give it a 9/10, really good game, worth the money in my opinion.

<-- my playlist, starts at episode 1, if you'd like to have a look

I've only played up until chapter three, but I like it. It feels like a weird mix of Resident Evil 4 and Silent Hill 2. I need to revisit this game, got distracted by Lords Of The Fallen, Minecraft, and now GTA Online.

I got this for Christmas. It's been a while since I played through a horror game. Only done the first couple of chapetrs, but it gives me a nice 80s horror vibe. I don't really understand the complaints about the graphics.

It's definitely not the best looking game, but it's not bad looking either.

Got my hands on this game on Christmas. I haven't played a proper survival horror game since Manhunt 2, so it should be good. I was wrong, at least by my standards. I've found the game boring, monotonous and clunky. I'll be returning this game to GameStop to get only a small bit of the game's value back in actual cash (ironically the game isn't that good to be valuable anyway).

The protagonist is boring. He's poorly written and his dialogue sounds so uninspired and lifeless. The writing itself is a complete bore and the only time the game is fun is when you first encounter that chainsaw wielding goon in the beginning. It just feels really uninspired.

The environments are great. Very gritty and dark and add to the (very little) atmosphere the game has. Only part of the game I found to be well developed.

The gameplay is awful. The wonky controls and stiff movement make the game a very unpleasant experience. I could just watch a movie and be more engaged than this.

The trailers made it seem like it would be scary and fun. Shame. It was neither in my honest opinion.

This was sitting on the shelf collecting dust so I thought I would give my grind on The Witcher 3 a rest for a while. I did get the season pass so I thought I would atleast try and finish it. I made it to chapter 9 which some chapters are pretty long. I did need some You Tube help though getting through some of these maps, just really a part with a boss where I was being timed to get out of an area and I just couldn't find my way out. I really like how they eliminated the black bars on top and bottom of the screen, big plus. Its not in my top games by any means but it not horrible either. One of those games where it just doens't feel right paying $60 + season pass and not finishing. 8/10 from me.
