Ferocious Banger
"Parkour (French pronunciation: [paʁˈkuʁ]) (abbreviated PK) is a holistic training discipline using movement that developed out of military obstacle course training. Practitioners aim to move quickly and efficiently through their environment using only their bodies and their surroundings to propel themselves, negotiating obstacles in between. They try to maintain as much momentum as possible without being unsafe. Parkour can include running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, spinning, jumping, rolling, quadrupedal movement and more, if they are the most suitable movements for the situation. Parkour is non-competitive. It may be performed on an obstacle course, but is usually practised in a creative (and sometimes playful) reinterpretation or subversion of urban spaces. Parkour involves 'seeing' one's environment in a new way, and imagining the potentialities for movement around it. Developed by Raymond Belle, David Belle, Sébastien Foucan and other members of the original Yamakasi group in the late 1980s, parkour became popular in the late 1990s and 2000s through films, documentaries and advertisements featuring these practitioners and others." -Wikipedia. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- One of the things that I'm looking forward to in Watch_Dogs, besides the attention to detail and ctOS, is the free-running feature - taken from their[ubisoft's] Assasins Creed series. I believe that it won't be as over the top as in AC, of course. But still, the ability to climb rooftops is very much there. Now, seeing that the movements and the animations are going to be a lot more more smoother in GTA V, I would like parkour to be featured - even if not very extravagant. I would like them[Rockstar] to have the movements to be more than just an evolution, ie ,I want parkour. Seeing as Rockstar games physics are a lot more grounded in reality(thanks to Euphoria), than AC's is, parkour - if added - would be a contributing factor to the immersion that the games offers. It needn't even be as extreme as in the clip above; but some of them should be do-able for professional criminals - who are actually physical, like the GTA protags - on the run. Ferocious Banger
No. Parkour is stupid. Parkour is something that is in existence. It is practiced by many people. It's not like it is something that is impossible to do. Is it? Would you really mind the gameplay features that parkour would bring in? I mean, haven't you ever though, "Damn, this building looks cool. I want to climb it to get the stunning views mid-building"?

If I wanna see the views I'll spawn a helicopter and fly up.

RichyB
GTA protagonists do not f*cking run away, they fight. So no, I would not want an activity the sole purpose of which is to practice running away, in GTA. Parkour, is for cowards, and has no place in a game for, and about real men. voyager
agreed, if we're going to be doing yoga, it's not a stretch. parkour isn't for "cowards" - IMO it's for gymnasts & ninjas can't deny it would be useful to be able to scale walls and leap between rooftops
Argon
OT, you seem to have your opinion ready about parkour, and aren't really allowing others to disagree As mentioned earlier, most people will probably agree that it doesn't fit GTA. The protagonists are criminals. When in danger, they will use weapons. When in real danger, they'll use high speed car chases to get away. Also, LA does not strike me as a place to get away on foot. All American cities are basically blocks, and if one disappears in a building, you just have to keep an eye on the 4 streets around it. Also, LA does not seem like a good parkour city, because downtown is insane high buildings, and area's around it are low. Parkour in country side would be kinda useless. It's not Assassins creed, It's not mirror's edge, and it's not Watch Dogs.

You know what your argument sounds like ? Let me show you: "Tommy Vercetti [in the beginning of the game] ran away like a coward. Therefore he is one." Seriously, why can't we freerun and catch an enemy thug ( in missions )? I am pretty sure that one of the previews said that one of the dynamic encounters catching a purse thief. Imagine having spectacular - yet grounded - moves while catching him. Isn't that offensive enough? It's not mirror's edge, and it's not Watch Dogs. And that is exactly why I said it needn't be as extravagant as in the aforementioned games. Something more than just vaulting the fences and walls. Is that too much of an ask? But do you mean as a way to escape police? Or just a nice side activity? If you think that you can escape the police like that, well, you can't. not in LA. Perhaps a 1 star chase, but that is already very easy to shake off. I think it's obvious that the player is not able to cross rooftop to rooftop, like in AC when you cross a huge street by jumping forward 10 meter or by walking over a cable. At some point, you need to cross street level again, and the police cars will just drive over you. I agree that the whole moving around animations need a smoothing, and perhaps climbing some basic obstacles can be improved, but I wouldn't agree on basic parkouring being helpful to escaping situations. Parkour can be used in chasing others, also there are many missions throughout GTA's history that requires you to run from the cops. You're telling people they have to play an open world sandbox game a certain way? You realize GTA is so popular because it gives you so many different options to choose how to play.. What you going to do when you catch them after chasing them via parkour? Hold their hand? Give them a kiss? It's already been established that the city would not be appropriate for parkour. No, if you need to stop somebody, you pull out your gun and you shoot them in the face. If you want to run after somebody, go and play tag with your boyfriend. SlappyPwnsAss
I want simple climbing mechanics. Being able to climb building in GTA's version of LA is stupid. I want some cool animations to get over fences or jump over benches like Mafia 2 had. This isnt Assassin's Creed
Miss Darko
I don't think much has to be changed, really. I found myself surprised at how many buildings were scalable in RDR, particularly in Blackwater where you can actually do some rooftop-rooftop style running around (of course it's not very large so it's more like an agility course than parkouring around a big city). The mechanics themselves allow you get to places, but you need more places where you can make use of those mechanics, that I wouldn't mind. They could also make them work a little faster and more fluidly. Obviously a city like Los Santos wouldn't be especially conducive for parkouring, being so open and horizontal, but any improvements on the fluidity of movement in the game are certainly welcome.
