BabeRuth
You don't need powers to be a hero. Batman wins in my vote.
DarrinPA
You don't need powers to be a hero. It's not about being a hero, it's about "Who would win in a real fight?" Superman!
Jimmy_Leppard
Who would win? Well, it's easy, the one who would be standing at the end of the fight.
milkmansun
Hasn't Batman actually beaten Superman though? Plus he has a Kryptonite ring, so if he manages to punch Superman he's done! I have read the comic, but don't remeber the name, where batman defeats superman.. i think its frank millers the dark night returns... or that series.. it was intelligent and believable.. for me BATMAN will win, coz he is the ultimate detective.. Tyler
I thought the subtext of both characters was that they (ie, America) are indestructible because they're so virtuous and moral and have god on their side? Well, they're a bit different but you're on point for the main part. Superman represents the idea that hope is justifiable and that good can triumph over evil. He's pretty much nerd Jesus - and not in a slanderous way. His whole shtick (which pisses me off that a lot of people seem to forget) is that he isn't about "being invincible." Sure he'll never die, but that doesn't mean he can't fail. His entire existence is dedicated to helping humanity and if someone were to successfully kill everyone off, then Superman would live forever knowing he failed to protect anything. That's a worse sentence than dying before the fact imo. Batman on the other hand is a reactionary element - not hope, but justice. He turns his worst fear into his greatest asset. He works in the night with criminals, turning their asset into their fear. He subverts what makes criminal life worth it. As far as Batman goes, he's the embodiment that the current establishment is worth preserving. He is the idea that justice brings hope for society. Almost every villain he encounters is a villain because they oppose the core ideas that Batman thinks are virtuous for a society. Whereas he wants order, Joker wants chaos. I think that's interesting because The Joker is probably the best villain in any comic simply due to how well he opposes Batman. He's the voice that control can't be justified, that no matter what there will be injustice, and calling your control over others "order" is hypocritical. That stuff is pretty cool. Either way, I don't really agree with the premise of the question. Superman and Batman don't really belong in each other's universe, and if they were then Batman would probably work with Lex Luthor to take down Superman, or Superman would destroy Batman, Lex, The Joker, et al without much issue if he believed they were a threat to humanity as a whole. Then again I've not delved into any of the comics where the two meet because the idea doesn't really interest me at all.
GTA_stu
Magnet and Steel would take them both down. Magnet and Steel, the next big thing.
rudy
Batman, definitely! Prior to the longass battle, Batman would grind down his prizey possession, the kryptonite, and then mix it with lotion before rubbing it all over his bare nekked chest all the way down to his genitals, and have krypo all over himself, and then he would be f*ckin' unstoppable. blitz
I know squat about comic books and graphic novels. My guess is that Superman would win because he has actual superpowers, while Batman only has fancy gadgets. A fight doesn't necessarily end in death, it can end in forfeit as well. No doubtly, Superman would beat the sh*t out of Batman until he'd be one punch away from death, and my wild guess is Batman would forfeit or face death (if Superman found himself forced to kill the guy). I think he'd forfeit, rendering Superman the victor. I can't believe I'm discussing superheros on an internet forum. What the f*ck.
