rayman617
Can you imagine how amazing this would be? GTA V will have an intricately detailed living breathing world. Imagine getting to see and experience all that, fully immersed in the virtual reality of it through your own eyes. Say hello to the Oculus Rift. Dev kits have already been sent out to developers and backers of the kickstarter for the device. A more advanced consumer version will be released soon. The general consensus of the product has been extremely positive. This is the real deal guys. I just can't stop thinking about using it for GTA IV and V. I wanna go to Downtown LA or Time Square in LC and admire all the architecture and the hustle and bustle of city life. Check out this great impression video of it in action here:
Revolution-XW
Jumping off Mt. Chilliad? In the desert, a strong sandstorm without vehicles or road nearby? In the ocean without a boat under a strong thunderstorm, with tough waves?
Passwrd
That would be pretty amazing. I've always wanted a machine or something that really takes it to the next level of immersion. I have no idea how well this would work with this, or the next generation of gaming and not sure how many people would actually want something like this, im sure it would be expensive too. BUT it would be non the less awesome. And Revolution, what about jumping off Mt. Chilliad? Desert? Ocean? Its a motion tracker and it could be used just for like head tracking or something. I think it's cool.
MattyIce
Technology is such that we will soon be able to fully immerse ourselves into gaming and movies by sitting in a futuristic lounging chair, and plugging a sensor remote into our ass. Causing us to feel every touch, smell every smell and taste every taste that the developer has intended for us to feel/smell/taste. I can't wait to smell Trevor's sweaty ass burps. Talk about total immersion!
Miss Darko
I rather doubt that R* will have compatibility built in for it even in the PC version, because they don't really jump on new technology bandwagons so readily. So it would have to take a skilled enough modder to create compatibility for it (assuming that's possible) and of course another modder to make a first person view because it would be really weird in third person. I think it would be cool too, but it may either end up never happening or not happening for a while because it's not quite as simple as plugging it in and playing any game with it. FredFive
This is the future! Just stumbled upon some E3 reviews of the HD version of the O.R and it looks really impressive! Currently the dev kits costs approx. 300$ which is pretty cheap, though it only runs in 1280x800. But O.R. combined with the The Omni and GTA V, would be freakin immersive and just totally awesome !! Rumors are saying that oculus rift is coming in stores late 2014. Can't wait! Edited August 29, 2013 by FredFive

theworldfamous
Oculus Rift is amazing. Not quite ripe for GTA V, but we're getting there fast. Just knowing that's all within arm's reach is pretty f*ckin awesome.
saintsrow
Isn't Oculus Rift better for playing in First Person view? On the subject of 3D stereo for GTAV does anyone think GTAV will work in stereo view on PS3 with this display? PlayStation® 3D Display

PlayStation® 3D Display Yes, but if a PC version comes out, someone will definitely make a mod for a first person GTA V, which will work with the Oculus, just like the GTA IV PC First Person Mod. 1987_EC

Great point! I use that first person mod for GTA IV every once in a while. First person is like a breath of fresh air because it feels so different, and so much more natural for exploring and walking around around and even for driving, and of course for getting great screenshots. z06z33
As a side not games aren't required to be coded for it as I've seen the Rift work in FSX which is a 7 year old game.
stumbows
I think it would be much more suited to a first person open world game like the elder scrolls games and stuff. I don't think I'd really want to use it for a 3rd person game.
BlackNoise
It sounds terrible IMO. It's cool tech, but not for gaming..yet. Too many problems at this time. Movement is the most obvious one. It also makes me feel sick. Apparently you're supposed to take motion sickness pills and then it isn't so bad. Microsoft and Sony will release their own proprietary VR tech at some point. I'll jump on at that time when all the kinks have been worked out.
SesameStPimp
There are many products out like this already. Problem is that nobody has made anything with high enough resolution and low enough price point. Best bet nowadays would be a DLP with Nvidia 3D shutter glasses with head tracking. Head tracking can be mapped to mouse view in 1st person and can be built at home for under $50. Shutter glasses work amazing for 3D on most games, depending on how compatible the game is modeled. Some games do not work well in 3D and never will because certain graphic effects are not modeled in 3D.

I'll jump on at that time when all the kinks have been worked out. When I had my first 3D experience with Turok in 1997 i got motionsick. And I guess a lot of people were. But you got used to it, and from the info I've stumbled upon, it takes a little time to get used to the Rift. But were only talking about a couple of sessions, 15 minutes the first day, 2 hours the next and so on. And you´re saying it's not for games? Then take a look at this list Bioschock, Half Life 2, Battlefield 3, Gta IV, Skyrim, Dishonored, Arkham City -you get my point. 289 supported games and apps at this point, and it's not even in retail yet. My guess is, that when companies like Valve and Epic are officially supporting this tech, there's something about the fuzz.
