gta_king
Mario games stil sell now partly because of nostalgia but also because the games are still that bloody good. Say what you will about the target audience or the hardware but Nintendo have a certain magic about their first party games, they just have a polish and a way of gaming that puts a smile on your face. rudy
The NES was the re-birth of gaming after the crash in the 80s. It was huge. Mario was the game that came with it. It makes sense that Mario would leave as large a mark as the NES itself. NES with Mario: Jesus! how can I forgot that awesome f*ckin' jump! No one can beat that insane jump, not even Jar Jar Binks from Star Wars.

Chukkles
I played it before.Don't get me wrong it's a good game and all,but I don't understand why people praise and why it's the best selling franchise of all time.Is it the fact that it was made long time ago or something?I am very confused. Which Mario are you talking about? Original, 2, 3, 64? Sunshine, Galaxy? Or the many others? All good games in their own rights. Mario 2 wasn't originally a Mario game, they just slapped the name on it, that's why it's so wierd. Mario 3 is my favourite.

One's like the first one (which I believe was only released in Japan), and the other one is practically an updated and reskinned version of Doki Doki Panic (which is the one you're obviously talking about). MIKON8ERISBACK
Firstly because Super Mario Bros (1985) single handedly invented the undisputed time tested way to make a scrolling platformer game, made most popular by the Nintendo Entertainment System (also circa 1985 in which it was bundled with the original console purchase). I've played Mario games all through my life, including Super Mario Sunshine; one of my all time childhood favorites. 2D or 3D regardless of the level of technology, it's fun to play with. The Mario Brothers since 1985 have one of those fictional characters that some people still don't think much of, but what they do is they represent the hero and good guy in all of us. In spite of difficulty levels, the games have always had great gameplay and presented great value for the money.

Grand Theft Savage
Mario [was] a pretty good game. Seriously. Mario was a pretty big part of my gaming when I was a youngster. But the people that still play Mario now and try to debate that it is better than contemporary games are just being dicks. Enough said. It was great and all, but some people get carried away. Finn 7 five 11
Mario is good even without nostalgia, it's just a simple and fun platformer, the standards of which are much higher than other platformers. Plus it has catchy music and vibrant colours. It's also just pure fun.
