Just Cause 2 was great for giving you a huge space to explore, but it was just an island with towns dotted around it. You didn't feel like you were a part of the life on the island like you would walking through Liberty City or San Andreas. That's why I could take the 30 sq mile space or whatever V's map size is rumored to be and be entertained so much longer than with something as big as Just Cause 2's map. You know that Rockstar's going to immerse you even more into the map of GTA V even compared to GTA IV. Really, this is the whole reason why I think Grand Theft Auto is the king of all open world game series. JC2's Ramai Rakyat Islands are nowhere near the size of the whole SA map. On the topic of map size, sure JC2 was actually big but it wasn't actually varied. Travelling in JC2 wasn't that fun because you see the same repeated scenery which leads you to believe it's a longer journey. In V the rural areas should have alot more detail, the journey could be the same length as a JC2 journey but the GTAV will feel smaller because you're seeing more unique things. Indeed, the map of San Andreas has a length and width each of 6 kilometers which are 36 square kilometers, and that in turn are 13.9 square miles. GTA V's map will definitely not be bigger than the map of Just Cause 2, because alone the statement of Aaron Garbut in the Game Informer cover-story, and the articles of various sources speak against it. According to GI, the map will be bigger than San Andreas, GTA IV, and Red Dead redemption together, including interiors, the underwater world and room to spare. If we would calculate the sizes of each game in 2D space then that would be an area of less than 30 square miles. Just Cause 2 is, according to official sources, around 400 square miles big but I'm not sure though how accurate that is.
