urbanfire
San Andreas was the largest map R* had done to date. As a result, there was a lot of repeat structures, especially in San Fierro and Las Venturus, where the side suburbs looked virtually identical due to lack of versatility and variety. Only LS looked unique, where each suburb had its own flavour, especially the area around Grove St (only Cul De Sac in the game). I mean R* are great at creating diversity, but by no means are they gods among us - even they will take short cuts if needed. With GTA V being larger than SA, RDR and GTA IV combined, do you guys think there will be a lot of repetitive environments like in Just Cause 2? Are you ok with that? Freezer89
Every game will be getting repetive. In this case it will take a very long time for GTA V and such a map. Can't say the same about IV altough it still was very detailed.. I just got sick of all the urban area. Let's hope for the best and there is always something to do everywhere on the map. Not a single square feet/meter may be wasted. I am looking at you, Just Cause 2..

Even the three industrial areas in the map felt unique from each other.
Caleb_SA
In Midnight Club La there was a big map expansion DLC. Maybe the same thing will happen for GTA V. The South Central Map Expansion for MCLA adds an entire extra 1/3 of Los Angeles territory to the already massive in-game map.

ALeSsAnDrO
Repetitive environments in Just Cause 2 are due to texture recycling. It's basically the same thing again and again with slight pattern changes. Rockstar is known for paying special attention to the world in order not to make it boring. The SA map was pretty much the pinnacle of GTA worlds. Each one of the 3 cities felt like being the size of Vice City, with enough diversity. You have different districts in San Fierro and Las Venturas just like Los Santos. You have residential areas, business areas. GTA V only has one city. So I'm sure the devs know they'll have to make a great countryside. Not only that, but they already have a history of creating great maps. There won't be repetitive environments. So much detail in that part of the map. It must be much more difficult to make buildings look old & decaying, as opposed to new & shiny. One of the great things about a 5 year development cycle, is they will be adding details to the map right up until the game goes gold. So we can be assured that we'll be discovering little things for years to come.
CaptainCapri
I don't think so. For the trailers and screens we have seen... Yes but how much of the map have we seen? Probably less than 10% (in detail anyway) Expect some repititivness, its bound to happen... But don't let it bother you! I'm sure the City and Countryside will be very diverse. Fuzzknuckles
Grove St (only Cul De Sac in the game). Apart from all the other Cul-de-sacs in the Ganton area. The street you're on when you get Cesar's first mission is a Cul-de-sac. Signatures are dumb anyway.
un94
I hope the countryside will feature dozents of bigger and smaller towns, maybe small renditions of Malibu, Palm Springs and San Diego. I also hope the small towns won't feel like copy/paste, in SA I sometimes felt like that, altough towns like Blueberry and Palomino Creek were pretty cool. Don't get your hopes up for 'dozens' of towns expect a few... Especially don't get your hopes up for versions of Palm Springs, San Diego or Malibu. Coral_City
This is the problem with huge maps. Everyone's dying for a gigantic map, but logical individuals realize giant maps get boring quick once you start to reuse assets. I personally think that renditions of Malibu and Palm Springs are possible... but ok, San Diego is too big to get resized to a town.

It would be nice to see Malibu in the game, but I honestly think your going to get Los Santos and a few small towns. Malibu's coast line alone is like 25 miles long, so its not exactly a small area to re-create
TheIllaDopest
i doubt there will be a lot of repetitive scenery in V. They've taken a few years and i believe they are going to deliver a solid map with plenty to do. Now with JC2 it was fun at 1st, got boring after bout 12hrs in the game, but what i really think it was lacking was some sort of mp. Or even a 4 way co-op. With V no need to worry bout that, with mp im sure there will always be something new to do.
73duster
I NEVER thought San Andreas was boring or repetitive. I spent more time on THAT game, than any other game I've ever played. Obviously, at some point, a game will get repetitive if you play it enough. It's pretty unrealistic to expect a map that will never get old. San Andreas is STILL the pinnacle of open world games in my opinion, and the ONLY signs of weakness are the dated graphics, which cannot be helped. We would be lucky if GTAV gives us the same level of diversity.
lazloisdavrock
San Andreas is how old? and I still find things I never seen before on the map. Least repetitive map ive played in a game
Isuck100%
I believe not, because unlike other developers, Rockstar does not copy and paste. I believe every last inch of GTA V will be handcrafted like GTA IV's Liberty City. The detail is going to be mindblowing and every area will look unique and interesting in its own way. That's why they scale the city down to such a size, to cut out the repetition and focus on important areas and interesting landmarks. You won't see dozens of blocks of identical suburbs, even though that would be accurate to the real Los Angeles. Rockstar is very aware of this concern and they are going to make every corner of the map as unique and fun to explore as possible.

People often say "but that would make it closer to real life", well R* aren't trying to emulate real life. You'll notice that in some movies, places & landmarks seem to be much closer together than they are in the real world. This isn't a mistake & is done for a reason. I just find it funny how some people think they know better than the people who are actually making the game. In some things I agree, like 'friends phoning you every 15 mins' but not the big things, like the size & variety of the map.
