Sanjiswaytocool
If this has been covered before, then by all means lock this thread. I've noticed that the Jewelry mission has shown us the perfect example of these so called "Toys" R* has mentioned in the G.I. article. I do not have a direct quote, but I'm positive that Houser stated that you are able to spend your money on a variety of things, "Toys" being one of them. But we have been speculating on that quote for the longest of time without any given evidence....til now. Examine these artworks. Michael is seen in Vangelico wearing a black suit/tie, gloves, a black duffel bag, tights masked over his head & is wielding an MP5. (Most likely arrived in an unmarked vehicle.) Now in this one, Michael is wearing BugStars overalls, a much bulkier duffel bag, a gas mask, & is wielding an assault rifle w/Silencer. (Arrived in the BugStars van) Now I could be wrong but it seems like we can finally choose how to approach our missions..... Or this could just mean we can go back & rob stores at any given time. Racecarlock
I certainly hope so. Being able to end a car chase early instead of chasing Michael Schumacher driving a car made of adamantium would be nice.

Being able to end a car chase early instead of chasing Michael Schumacher driving a car made of adamantium would be nice. I f*cking lol'd. As much as I love playing GTA IV, those god damn scripted car chases have got to go. I remember Houser saying something along the lines of (paraphrasing here) "the player will have more choices of how to go about doing missions" in the GI article. Despite the aforementioned scripted chases, there were a few missions in previous GTAs that you could do in multiple different ways.

Despite the aforementioned scripted chases, there were a few missions in previous GTAs that you could do in multiple different ways. I also hate the scripted car chases. Indeed, the ability to achieve mission goals in multiple ways is at the core of sandbox games. In TBOGT, there was a mission where you have to blow up three drug vans parked in garages in a courtyard kind of place. The first time I tried that mission took a bunch of repeated trials, very frustrating, climbing up the vent pipes to get to the roof, where the mission clearly wanted you to go. I usually got killed by gunmen on the roof. Eventually I passed that mission and got better at it upon replays. Then one day I realized that I could just fly a helicopter to an adjacent building roof and snipe all the gunmen at my leisure. Excellent! Actually, way back in one of the early missions in GTA III, where they were trying to teach us to throw grenades out of the car to blow up three vans on the move, another frustrating learning experience, I eventually realized that I could just pull in front of a van, jack it and wreck it when I wanted to. So much easier. Another good example of alternative mission choice in a sandbox.
zainzombie
I dont think we will be able to dress our protagonists differently. Im pretty sure we will have to wear those specific costumes/accessories for big heist missions. The most we would be able to customize is our weapons. Racecarlock
I'd also like to add that anything possible in a mission should be possible in free roam. I mean, in GTA IV if you want to hold on to the side of a truck again you'll have to start a new game or load a save that's directly before the mission. In BOGT apparently I can cling to subway train roofs like spiderman until the very minute the mission ends, after which he just drunkenly stumbles off like normal. And all though this is more tangential to missions, apparently my cellphone completely disappears when I'm on a helitour, which is a shame, because it would have livened them up to no end if I could have been randomly spawning boats in front of the chopper to test the pilot's dodging skills. While I'm on helitours, apparently blowing one up in midair as it tries to land sometimes results in the burning wreck just floating there unmovable like I just hit it with an anti-gravity freeze ray instead of an explosive. Probably part of engine limitations at the time, but I thought we were going for realism here, and as it stands a burnt helicopter cockpit just sitting in the air is not what I'd call realism. Now that I'm on the complain train of scripting, I might as well go all out. Why the hell can pedestrians survive impossible to survive falls by playing a "Getting off the ground" animation at just the right time? Also, why is rigor mortis in IV essentially becoming a god that's invulnerable to anything dropped from above like a spawned boat, except when you hit them from the side? Seriously, the poses are unbreakable if you're dropping boats on them. Hell, I've had instances where dropping a boat directly on a guy's head would not even knock a guy down, just push him out of the way while he's still walking. Hell, the guy doesn't even notice. So, yeah, if you're truly dedicated to replicating the world outside rockstar games, these would be good places to start.

I mean, if you drive a car off a height or land a helicopter directly on top of an npc, they get knocked over & take damage. During an interview with The Benz, he said some missions will allow you to choose who to take along, what weapons, equipment & vehicles you'll need and be given more choice in how to complete said mission. Ok before I say something rude here I want you to stop and really THINK. I want you to think real hard about why they would possibly be wearing specialized clothes in these shots. When you have thought this through completely go ahead and tell us what you come up with.

Sanjiswaytocool
My point is not on why they are wearing those specialized clothing during the set mission (I mean, who the f**k tries to attempt a robbery w/o the use of gear/masks/etc. ). My point is why are their multiple shots of 3 characters executing the same mission....wearing different attire/gear. Bringing up the topic on mission freedom & choice. No need though, as the latest trailer *might* have proven my point. I'm guessing you'll have a choice on how to approach some missions. If you want to complete the diamond heist mission quicker you can buy the Suit & Tie w/ either the Stockings or Ski Masks. Or you can complete a different mission in which you can steal the Bugstar van & overalls.
