Machine Head
I think we know to an extent that there is going to be some form of realism and depth to the pedestrians in V; they won't be simple automatons walking around aimlessly any more, apparently. I was wondering, just how in depth do R* intend to simulate these people? I'm personally hoping so to the point of regretting that you committed a murder. For example, killing one of a couple elicits extreme emotion from the other partner, that sort of thing. It may, to some of us, make us think twice about killing a pedestrian. And I believe that that's a core feature in order to increase the immersion of V. Anyone agree/disagree?
Player58428
In the first trailer when you see the joggers running on the pier (one of the first shots) it already got to me that the interaction between NPCs is incredible. The two girls who check out the guy running by kind of give each other a look and giggle or something after looking at him. And we all know the shot where the slums and workers are gathered together and interacting(?). In Assassins Creed 3 this already was on a very high level if you payed attention to it. And GTA is in my view known for raising the bar for all other games so I'm really looking forward to this aspect. DODI3OG
Rockstar already said in the GTA V gameinformer issue that peds will have much intelligent AI. It's even pretty obvious in Trailer 1! They're even mistaken for protagonists because of their improved AI.
NicoBaby
SURE!! you will even be able to see the peds getting a boner.

(Btw sorry for any grammatical errors, I'm not from an English speaking country) I never have played any of the AC series, it just doesn't appeal to me. I generally tend to take trailers (particularly early ones) with a grain of salt; yes it did look very promising but trailers aren't enough for me to make absolute decisions. What reinforced it for me was some of the reviewing sites posting about how NPCs basically "had their own lives". So yeah, hopefully it's all good! And your English is fine, don't worry
Racecarlock
I really like the idea of realistic pedestrian reactions. It adds a lot to the world. And I think rockstar is actually going to pull it off this time, and better than they did in IV. It certainly adds a lot more to the world than any fuel system or hunger system could ever hope to. That being said, thinking twice is not something I do when I kill people in GTA.
.dre.
If you remember in the GameInformer mag they said that you can see gardners waiting at the bus stop in the morning and see them working in the late afternoon or something like that. I hope they add more complexity to this or at least keep this true.

I hope that when I shoot some f*cker in the head his car flips over (doesn't matter if it's not realistic, it's FUN!) and causes a huge crash with people taking photos, and reacting like a real person would. Cutter De Blanc
Can't wait to pull out a Rocket Launcher in the hood and just stand there for awhile to see ped reactions all like "your move, homeboy." Was always funny in IV I'd bust out the Rocket Launcher and there'd always be that fat black guy who went "HOLY sh*t!" and ran off.
CryptReaperDorian
I'm sure it'll be an improvement over GTA IV, but R* and the journalists are probably still exaggerating. The "living their daily lives" thing was also brought up when GTA IV was being marketed, and while the pedestrians do some cool things in GTA IV (the coolest is probably the very rare event where somebody's working on the power lines from the top of a telephone pole), it wasn't exactly as impressive in practice as it was on paper. For instance, people would park their cars in a driveway, and then those people would just walk aimlessly down the sidewalk rather than doing things around what you presume to be their homes. Spot on. Before IV's release, a lot was said about the massively improved behaviour of peds, in the end it ammounted to them chatting on the phone and little more. Personally, I'm not going to stalk NPC's, dont really care about them "living their lives". I just wish to see a lot of more varied behaviours, pedestrians interacting more with everything, inside shops, bus stations, discos, schools, etc. And more groups, instead of gazillions of lonely NPC's. gta5freemode4eva
I think the AI and pedestrians will be a step to what we really want.. and that is the realistic reactions, and consequences, to what we do. The scenario the OP said, about shooting 1 of a couple, the reaction could be the other person running off, trying to fight or kill you, or mourning the departed there and then, calling the cops, begging you etc etc... what we will eventually get is the AI remembering this and then later on 'after the funeral' they set out to come after us. We will know its them because they have a specific house, car + number plate, that is registered to them or their family + friends etc. Kind of Sims technology as so far as most actions have their consequences structured through a quite complex game base. I haven't explained it exactly as I wanted to but I've had a couple of beers and you get the jist. In V I will stalk an NPC to check out what R* have done but back to the OP's scenario... I'll kill em both. Job Done I hope R*s claims hold true... guess we'll see in september
BenVS
I'd like for peds to interact with you first in some cases. Right now I like the idea of Michael or Trevor for instance strolling alone in the city, and either a group of douchey young guys or some drunk dude with his girlfriend trying to insult one of the protags to impress those he's with. Just picture it, Trevor getting disrespected out of nowhere by some asshole with his bimbo girlfriend due to the way he looks or the dirty clothes he's wearing. Trevor would go crazy and teach him a lesson, start a fight etc. Then all these other people try and break up the fight or his friends jump in. I'm just fantasising here. It probably won't happen but that's something I'd love to see peds do. I just can't wait for this game.

They had an interview with Dan Houser or Sam Houser and that is what he said. Not a cutscene, GAMEPLAY! God. "Gameplay" simply means in-game footage, whether it's a cut-scene or free play, it's still gameplay, that being said I don't think it was a cutscene but hey, we'll only know on September 17th. OT: When I read about the new AI I was overcome with joy, this is a system I've always wanted in a GTA game, the AI in IV was good enough to immerse you into the world and consider the pedestrians as real, living people however their behavior was noticeably repetitive and sometimes 'kind of' drew me out of the experience. With that said, being able to stalk someone (yeah, yeah I'm creepy laugh it up) and actually witness them going to work, then going home, going to the store even will be amazing, and if the AI actually reacts to you holstering a weapon that'd be fantastic, as Cutter De Blanc said, going into South LS and pulling out a glock in the midst of gang territory, and noticing them looking at you and whispering to eachother and eventually confronting you saying something like "Hey, homeboy, what the f*ck you doing man? put that sh*t away unless you want to get blasted, homes" it would just add a new layer to the immersion of the game, and if R* truly are implementing this feature in such a way, I think it could put GTA V in the running for the best GTA yet. Of course, I'm trying not to be too optimistic, but at the same time, if this game is really their most ambitious, complex and large project, then I think we can expect to see some pretty fantastic AI. Flipping people off is also going to be an endlessly amusing feature, seeing how everyone reacts. Imagine flipping off a cashier before busting open the cash register (fantasizing about such a thing, I hope you can do that!) and legging it out, and he then presses an alarm and about 5 in-game minutes later the cops arrive. One can only hope. GAH! I can't freaking wait! Only 5 more months. So close. So soon. Edited April 17, 2013 by Crumplet
