It seems like the usual schedule with Rockstar is a long delay followed by a short delay. That's just the way it is with a project this large and complex. So I agree with many other posters here that a further delay of 4 to 8 weeks is likely. Probable time of announcement, about 3 to 4 months from now.

 

I just hope they leave in all the good ideas they have come up with for GTAV, rather than taking things out to get the game shipped.

I will say that nothing is concrete about when we get the game. The only thing concrete will be my hands once they first get wrapped around the box. I will never let it go. Rockstar can't take away it from me !!

They gave us an exact release date almost a year away, that's saying something. They definitely estimated how long it would take, then gave themselves a few extra weeks or so.

I always thought they would delay it again, since October is Rockstar's signature month. But they've told everyone that the game will be coming out on September 17th. They wouldn't fool us twice...

After a year of silence, R* gave the spring 2013 release along with posters, viewers and all that. Shortly after R* delays everything, including the release date until Sept. 2013. Was they sure with the spring date? At first it seemed so, but we know how that idiocy turned out. Is Sept. concrete? Hell no it ain't! I expect it to get delayed until Dec. 2013 or later. If not, then great! What the hell have they been doing all this time? 5-6 years for a GTA? That's ridiculous. God only knows how long before we get to see a next-gen GTA--Probably halfway through next-gen's life, and it will most likely be the only GTA we get for next-gen. R* isn't producing games like they should be. We should've had Bully this gen. Instead, we get a below-average version of Max Payne. I hate to break it to R* but the first two were miles better. Nothing is certain with R* except that we'll definitely get a line of horsesh*t, lies, and idiotic time frames(few weeks or so, ina bit, etc.,). Until it goes gold, we have nothing but time.

Agreed. This is the reality. The only redeeming factor (such as it is) is that the sales rate of next gen consoles will probably be so slow, that next gen will not be a big enough market for Rockstar to make money on a next gen GTA game until about 4 years into the cycle. Maybe even longer. We probably have to face that fact.

 

I will be interested to see the early games from other publishers on next gen, to see how much improvement there is in both the processing power / game engines and the artistic skill. I have a feeling that the first couple of years of next gen will look a lot like the best of this generation of consoles, until a whole new skill base is developed.

To me, giving a specific date was meant to soften the blow of the delay so people would say, "At least we have a firm date." I fully expect another (shorter) delay by about three to six weeks, pushing it to October. That still gives the game a month or two jump on next gen as well. I hope I'm wrong, because I scheduled my vacation that week in September.

As a company and image RockStar (R*) has zero credibility when it comes to dates. At least in my own personal view anyway.

I agree with the first part of your post.thats exactly what i thought right after the delay.

But i think they expecting gta v will be done in july/august so they have enough space till the release.

I think it is possible that one day, they will inexplicably paint black over it without announcement, and change it to something later on.

They don't need to paint it black all over. They just need to add a few letters in white at the bottom: "OR SO"

While I know the date isn't 100% definite now, I really don't think there will be a delay. Mostly because they announced the delay in February, a good two months before the start of the window we thought we would be getting the game in. They basically gave themselves around another five-to-six months to finish the game. If they were originally confident enough to announce a Spring window but knew they needed more time in February then I think they will have it all sorted by August to have the game out on 9/17.
