GKP
perhaps mad8 - though V has enough new functions and areas that the idea is effectively the same. The chart was just a way to describe how hype / hope and general excitement is a transient thing. Comparative to the years of waiting, the 'new' feeling to everything is short - hype dies quickly. All these retarded kids who can't just appreciate the point and move on. I swear they are not 18 yet.
WhiskeyFoxtrot
Honestly for me, the hype stays constant throughout the first few days/weeks. I continually look forward to playing when it comes to the first few days after release of a GTA game, the hype doesn't drop then spike. The ending of the graph is accurate though. After a long time, the hype is basically gone, stop playing for months, then one day re play it and get some of that hype back. Edit: after the initial release (first few days / a week passes) the hype dies down then spikes depending on what happens. GKP
Id rather people find the graph totally wrong frostbyte and discuss it like you have rather than the ridiculous bashing I got initially. Just what is it with bashing the threads of ppl who do things a bit differently ? Just before you open the game, the initial seconds even of driving, shooting, hearing the new radio songs and trying out Golf in a GTA game, Im sure your 'personal' graph will peak at that time as well. J-B
Nothing wrong what GKP is saying here, although a graph is a bit unnecessary. The game will lose it's new high eventually, and *gasp* you'll probably even get burnt out on it after extended play. I'll probably play it very heavily(daily or just about) for the first 2-3 months before I lower my play rate to something more standard. I still play VC, SA, and IV on a pretty regular basis, so I know I'll still be playing V for years after it's release. I intend to make the happiness and discovery of the original game last as long as possible, interleaving occasional missions with exploration and minigames and general sandbox play, and I think / I hope that it will take me 3 to 4 months to complete the storyline. But that depends on the structure of GTAV. 3 to 4 months ? Even if V has the longest storyline of any GTA game that would still be a snail pace of rate to progress through it. Good luck on that. I guess you're right with that. Nothing does really compare to the first few minutes you are actually playing the game. I see where you're coming from there, and feel the same way. Those first few minutes are the most exciting for me. It's the time where I think to myself, "The wait is finally over ) as I'm cruising listening to whatever it is on the radio. GKP
Its also the time of most trepidation. I was a bit disappointed in that first minute with GTAIV on the PS3. Lagged like a bitch. I will be keeping a close eye on the changed physics and gunplay / new animations with V. JB - I trade shares in my spare time. (GKP oil) being one of them , so charts are a habit). .dre.
yes its hilarious.... It is. You're a loser who created a graph to play a videogame. I find that quite funny.

.dre.
I must be bad at Math if I'm majoring in Engineering . Nope, I just see a kid's version of a graph and laughing my ass off at it because it's so stupid. Who does this during their spare time? Isn't there more important things to be concerned about and analyze? I doubt even one person will remember this and follow through with it. JOSEPH X
I made a topic about hype a while ago...it also included a graph. Looky-look: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=527197&hl= my theory was a bit more optimistic about playing times though
killahmatic
I highly disagree with that chart for many reason. The first reason is the most obvious. Its a graph based on your own opinion of the game. Everybody is different and everybody will like the game differently. Some could get bored in a month, some might not get bored until the next release. Secondly, it depends on the quality of the game. A game like San Andreas will be a lot more fun than a game like III. Also I usually beat the story in the first couple of week, but a lot of the most fun stuff happens AFTER that.

SmoothGetaway
This is about as profound as me saying, 'Your first sip of beer will be amazing, but by your 4th glass it will take more to maintain the effect' OR 'The first few seconds of taking a piss are amazing, but after that the enjoyment drops' OR 'The first time I banged that hot chick it was awesome, but after a few minutes of listening to her talk I wanted to choke myself out'. Deep stuff OP.
meson1
OK. So let's discuss this graph. Where did you get the data for this chart? By what method did you quantify 'hype'? How did you gather the data? What data did you gather? What is the sample size; how many people were you able to survey?

splintercell4eva
I see your point and I guess I agree with you. Obviously the first few hours are going to be euphoric. they almost always are with a new game. I'm sure your dopamine levels are through the roof. But I also think most people already knew that because it's the same way with every new game. I don't think this thread is really about anything new or interesting but merely a commentary on the experience of playing a new videogame. You do however, end up sounding like an annoying pessimist when you bring it up though.

V8 Engine
Did you copy this graph from your heroine graph the rehab center gave you? wow that was funny anyway OT thats how I typically feel when I get a new game and take a break and play it again

Miss Darko
One thing that isn't quite touched on as well is the fact that GTA V will have more re-playability than most GTAs. You can't go thoughout the entire game as a single protagonist, but there are many points in which you have a choice who you play as during a mission (when there's two or more protagonists involved). Replaying the missions with different combinations should be quite interesting and make them seem very different as opposed to your first time replaying one of the previous GTAs (and especially in GTA IV, where there wasn't much free-form ability in the missions). I can see my excitement spiking a bit at that point because I'll be experiencing some new stuff in GTA V that I didn't in my first playthrough. Capricornus
It may take me a week, 3 weeks, or three months. It depends on how much I play, especially just f*cking around and taking a break from the story mode. You don't know how long it will take me to complete this game. GKP
I know I dont , but generally speaking most people play it quite heavily in the first month or so.
