GTA2THACORE
From the looks of present time to the future, gaming will have a slight change of how you purchase your games. Opinions and assumptions come by the dozen, but I think my gesture will be pretty accurate, games brought from your local gaming store will be a thing of the past eventually. So hope you all will be ready to purchase your future games from your console's shopping market. So how do you all feel about this, and do you think this feature will be added to the future? Loch Dawg
If the way we buy our games is going to change dramatically, it's going to be far more digital then it is right now. Why continue wasting money on producing physical copies when most consumers have an internet connection and can just download the game instead/? Chunkyman
I no longer go to physical stores. They're going to go under just like Blockbuster because it's an antiquated method of acquiring digital media. Amazon is usually where I purchase games, but I don't even do that much any more (kickstarter's have been my only game purchases in the past 2 years). Daz
A good example is that I have only bought 2 physical games this year, where as I have actually bought another 6 that were via download this is good for the following reasons: -No need to put in a disc -Global release dates -Publishers do not need to shift physical copies which saves alot of money -Generally cheaper meaning more people can enjoy them. -If an XBLA game you get a free trial to play The list is endless, I do like owning physical copies as I don't like the idea of online only games or that someone could at some point just take away our access to our downloads as it is all done via an account, if you lose access to that account you're f*cked. I still think big releases should be physical, but I wish there was a way to have both, get a code to download the files before release, then as soon as release hits be able to unlock it and play without the need of downloading, but also get install discs sent to you as well. But for most general games that arent super high quality, its much better having them downloaded. Like with the success of Minecraft and this upcoming month the eventual success of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, hopefully this type of thing will take off more. What I hope, is if we get the ability to download full retail games within a week or so of release, they should be significantly cheaper, due to no packaging or shipping, I hope eventually games will become alot cheaper on demand, because there is no reason for brand new retail games going cheaper but on demand downloads still being full price as it costs them even less. Not only if you lose access to your account, but what if your system storage corrupts. This would actually piss me off having to repurchase all the games twice! Fair enough if you can still play your games on your hard drive, but if it fails or you lose it and they deny service, you lose your sh*t. We need to be able to redownload all these games on later consoles because this is my fear for the next xbox console, all the dlc and games I have bought will most likely become useless and not compatible.
