Bmike904
I just had a simple question for some of you guys. I've seen a lot of people say they will turn the mini-map off when they first turn on the game. My question is why do people wanna do this? What does it add to the experience? Mário César Baldessar Moro
I don't see advantage to do this. Maybe they want follow Rockstar that abolished the hud on top right. I guess this totally unnecessary.
Meezarawcks
It adds to the sense of realism not knowing where you are going I guess. I wouldn't mind actually trying it out the first time I play the game just so I can get lost a little. Could be fun.

I can see what you're saying to a point but I personally would get annoyed getting lost all the time

Maggot899
I want to do it so that I have a sense of being new to the city like I'm visiting it in real life. I want to find my way around and learn on my own...it doesn't add anything to the game, just want to see the game without looking at the map is all. Mário César Baldessar Moro
I just had thought about the visual aspect But this, much more realism not knowing where you are going. Moreover, Taking a long time to get the places, you will get more fun between missions.
SeaFoam
I usually turn the map off, but leave the blips on.
Gjosh
I can drive from the Garage in Doherty to Grove Street without looking, although the map will be slightly different, with stretched out Deserts, forests, mountains, and roads.

To me though, the map being on or off won't change the city feeling new. Everything will be brand new and you'll have no idea of where u are at even with the mini map on. Maggot899
True true. I just want to feel like I have nothing to guide me around the city other than my own eyes and memory. I've never done that with a GTA before and I want to see what It's like.
Grand Cannon
For fun. Flying out into the middle of nowhere and trying to find your way back to civilization.
Johan
I guess it adds realism and if you think about it; gives you extra replayability into the game without downloading mods or anything.
SunflowerSeed
-turn off map -crash into cop -try to drive off -end up crashing into some building you didnt know was there -arrested Genius
Dick Valor
-turn off map-crash into cop -try to drive off -end up crashing into some building you didnt know was there -arrested Genius Sarcasm does not become you, good sir. If anything, the HUD is a distraction that takes your eyes off the road, making you more likely to run into buildings, cop cars, etc. Or do you find it easier to drive around staring at a Thomas Guide in your lap? Crumplet
I'm doing this straight away just because I want to get lost in the city, find places I want to visit via directional signs, end up waaaay out in the sticks in some random town. Can't wait
rare.steak
If we had the option, I would turn it off as well.

I've seen a lot of people say they will turn the mini-map off when they first turn on the game. My question is why do people wanna do this? What does it add to the experience? People want to create a more realistic setting, even though in today's times, almost everyone owns a smartphone with a GPS. So the mini-map isn't that unrealistic. Hazelnot
If we had the option, I would turn it off as well. You do have the option. The thing is, in IV it makes sense. Niko is new to Liberty City and he obviously doesn't know the layout. But in V, all three protags have lived for quite a while (or, in Franklin's case, all his life) in Los Santos, so they know the city. In this case, the minimap makes complete sense. The reason I'll turn off the minimap the second I paly GTA V is that I wanted to be immersed. Not knowing where to go only relying on the voice GPS in my car.
