universetwisters
Turns out Rockstar was originally going to do a spiritual successor to "The Warriors" by the name of "We Are The Mods". It would've taken place in 1960s Britain and focus around the Mods vs. Rockers fights: Rockstar Games is known for keeping many of their projects closely guarded and while it may take four of five years for a game to finally come out, it’s definitely worth the wait. But sometimes there are Rockstar projects that sadly fall by the waste side such as the 1960’s based gang game the company’s Toronto branch was developing. We caught wind of this canceled gang project a while ago, but today we have a few more tidbits on the project along with some simple in-game images. Rockstar Games have of course remained silent regarding their London based gang game, but thankfully former Rockstar employee Matt Kazan has shared some details about the project via his website. A veteran staffer of Rockstar’s Toronto studio, Matt worked on several high-profile projects such Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV as an environment artist. According to Matt, Rockstar Toronto’s London based gang game was dubbed “We Are The Mods” amongst members of the studio. As we learned previously, We Are The Mods began development in Rockstar Toronto in 2006 and was meant to be a spiritual successor to The Warriors, at least in how the game was meant to be a gritty brawler. Development on We Are The Mods was ultimately shifted from the PS2/Xbox to the PS3/Xbox 360 and ultimately it was this shift plus other issues that lead to the game being halted and presumably canceled. Matt didn’t give us any juicy details as to the game play mechanics of We Are The Mods, but he did share some of his work on the project which includes a few vehicles and objects like a gun and stockyard train car. It would’ve been really interesting to see the Mods vs. Rockers battle of We Are The Mods become a reality since we don’t see that many games set in the 1960s and because gang battles are always fun to experience no matter the place or combatants. Yeah it kind of sucks that we don’t have any cool character art for the project but the fact that we at least have a name, albeit an unofficial one amongst Rockstar brass, and a confirmation of its premise is nice to know. Given Rockstar’s identity for doing projects that aren’t really of the norm, the likely reason that We Are The Mods never became a reality was because the game just got tired up in the midst of Rockstar trying to complete two massive projects (Red Dead Redemption, GTAIV) and the sudden shift in platforms likely didn’t help things as well. Maybe at some point we’ll see Rockstar resurrect We Are The Mods but maybe we should just appreciate what we’ll soon have (L.A. Noire, GTAV) and what we may have in the future (Agent). Link here. Red XIII
Was that article written by a 10 year old? What is it with you and making a lots of topics? please answer, I genuinely want to know why you make so many topics. OT: Seems like it could be pretty good, although I really hope agent is their next game. I wonder how many projects rockstar has going on at the moment, probably more than we think. RARusk
Judging from the topic title I thought this was going to be a game about GTAForums. "One day I will think of this as just another job. After all, this is what I do."
Grand Theft Savage
universetwisters, you aren't alone man! I was so excited for this game and Rockstar just threw it out the window. We Are The Mods would have been one hell of a game. It's already 2013 and new consoles are right around the corner, so I wouldn't mind if AGENT and We Are The Mods were the first two next-gen console games that R* releases. I'll get We Are The Mods no matter what... As long as I can play it. There is so much potential here.

The Warriors is such a great game, and I'd always hoped that Rockstar was going to build upon it with a sequel of some kind. celvongraven
Daz
Sh*t son. I always wanted a 3D GTA london. The Warriors game f*cking owned as well. But they would have probably have f*cked it up anyway, you would get punched in the face and stumble drunk down the road for 10 minutes no doubt. universetwisters
Claude4Catalina
British football firms in the 80's would be an awesome topic to cover and be a spiritual successor to The Warriors, what with the use of Underground trains to get around, the idea of using local pubs instead of the hangout, doing pub run-through's and dirty work like sabotaging rival's cars under the cover of darkness. still, We Are The Mods would have made for a great game, what with the 1960's culture, the dress sense, the cars and Rockstar's sense of humour to top it off. Harley
Would love something like this. With such few guns around they could really focus on some sweet fighting mechanics, instead of being just another GTA. And music and fashion would play a big part. But I don't see a big enough market for it to ever happen. universetwisters

Cosmic Gypsy
Real shame this game never came out, The Warriors is still one of my favourite Rockstar game to this day, that and Red Dead Redemption 2. If only Red Dead took a few more things out of The Warriors (having a proper throw instead of "dismiss", picking up street objects to use as weapons like chairs, bottles, bricks, etc, being able to choose weather to knee, headbutt, punch, elbow, kick, etc.) At least they finally wised up and let us rob sh*t again in Red Dead but damn, would be so epic to play a brutal brawler game again, gun fights are so tame and boring in comparison. Fist fights, melee weapons and general crime for the win. Our Generation looks promising though, i'll be keeping my eye on that one. Nico
Holy sh*t, London in the sixties is my jam. Hopefully this will become a thing someday, even though judging by the description and video, it seems a bit too ambitious for a small team, and sadly not too many people seem to care. If they can't afford music licensing -they surely can't- they should make it easily moddable -no pun intended- for us to put whatever music we want. Ivan1997GTA 1 Did you see the frightened ones? Cosmic Gypsy
Lookin proper good MarkyBoy, i read on your Facebook Our Generation will feature house invasions and street robberies, love the sound of this. As long as the gameplay feels nice and reaponsive and the animations all look natural this'll be a winner.
