Brubs
Well, listening to some past work from rockstar and all that, and reading some interviews, i got to realize that Red Dead Redemption was their shift on realizing that an original score was really important to capturing a sense of place and an emotion. Woody Jackson and bill elm are extremely excited to work again with videogames(jackson composed a little for L.A NOIRE and his studio was the stage for Max payne 3's score) so Woody has a great partnership with Rockstar, and knowing that he worked in Ocean's twelve score, i think if he will compose to GTA V's score. How will the Original Score sound, which direction they will take? The Eletric Guitars of Red dead? the powerful drums of max payne? or a different direction, more akin to heat's soundtrack? CryptReaperDorian
To be honest, I think this will be quite akward. One typically doesn't associate "scores" and "ambient music" with the GTA franchise. I also thought it was weird when R* experimented with scores in GTA TBOGT (during the last mission). My fear is that R* might use these scores to "muffle" your vehicle's radio during missions. That would be quite distracting. For just this large change, I really don't know what to expect GTA V having for scores.

Well it's confirmed by Gameinformer and I think that you can turn it off, but in my opinion, it makes the shootouts or some scenes more interesting. I loved the score of Max Payne 3, specially at the Panama chapter and the airport shootout
Squidhead
Why do we need a score?, This is GTA.
Lelouch The Zero
I really wish and hope the idea of a score is scrapped. What if it blares over the radio and we can't hear it? No thanks.
Ermac_
I would guess scores are mission specific and triggered only certain points, it would be less conventional for rockstar to have music playing over the entire mission, as for the radio im sure it will be turned off automatically at the start of missions or after a certain checkpoint (killing some guy, then getting in the car to chase down the van)
Miss Darko
The way I see it is that it'll work similarly to LA Noire's score in free roam mode. There's some small missions you can do in free roam outside of the cases, so this comparison works out pretty well: There's no ambient music when just walking or driving around. Radio in the car, silence on foot. There's some ambient music in LA Noire, but not in the free roam mode. I think that makes sense in GTA as well because there's just so much going on, and how could one decide what particular 'feel' you're supposed to have when exploring the city or roaming the countryside? RDR's score has inspiration from a wealth of western films, and LA Noire's music has its roots in film noir. But GTA doesn't have such a specific 'theme' to it. So I expect that there won't be any ambient music that plays when just free-roaming. However, music plays during cutscenes and missions. In the situations in which you're in a car, the score will overtake the radio music (basically the radio music will be silent during these moments so as to not be distracting). It likely makes use the 'stem' system they used in their other scores so that the music syncs up with the action. That's pretty much how I see it working. And I'm sure we'll have the option of turning it off, as well as adjusting the volume of ingame music and radio music independently (although I wouldn't worry about the two conflicting, because as I said earlier, 'mission' music will replace the radio unless the score is turned off, and no music will play during free roam). I really wish and hope the idea of a score is scrapped. What if it blares over the radio and we can't hear it? No thanks. Why would you even worry about that? You will surely be able to turn the music off if you don't want it. And it's not like ambient music will play over the radio, the sound people aren't stupid and probably will have seen that problem coming from a mile away. The two will not conflict, and I believe I heard that there will be an option as to what takes priority: the radio (meaning a mission in which you're in a car will not play the designated mission score, but rather the radio audio) or the score (meaning the radio audio will be muted as long as the mission score is playing). Then you will have the option of turning all the music off completely. And I don't think there will be any ambient music outside of missions. Maybe music will play when you have Wanted levels, amping up with each star, but the same priority rules will apply: if you have the radio on, that music will not play. Or you could have no score music at all. This isn't just speculation on my part. The priority information is confirmed, although I would have to look to find where. The rest is just common sense. kesta195
Why do we need a score?, This is GTA. What the hell kind of argument is that? If anything it should be the other way around: GTA is a triple A game, why doesn't it already have a score, like all the other decent games? Piggsy pls
I don't mind, radio music sucks anyway.
aqwaqwaqw8
a good score can make missions much more fun like a mission in far cry 3 where you burn down weed.if gta v has an appropriate score inside missions it could really improve fun and replay value. but that's just my opinion
