Secura
Right first off I want to clarify that this thread will include some generalisations, I'm sorry but that simply can't be helped. Even if you're one of the few members here in the V section that contribute fairly well and bring up some mildly interesting topics of discussion that doesn't change the fact that there are about five hundred people that are going to do the complete opposite. Now let's start this off nice and slow, just so you guys don't get too overwhelmed by the amount of text present in this topic. I know text is a scary thing for a lot of you, at least it seems that way since half of you can't simply be asked to do something very, very simple like I don't know, punctuate your sentences correctly. Let's get something out of the way quickly, if you're here for one reason and one reason alone (and let's face it, only a small minority are going to be sticking around after Grand Theft Auto V comes out anyway) to discuss Grand Theft Auto V or to simply tell Rockstar what you want to see in the game then you're going to have to realise two things. 1: Rockstar are a multimillion dollar company, very rarely are they going to bother taking advice or ideas from a forum on the internet, and even when they do bother to take a look they're hardly going to look at a post that's structured like this: oH my god rockstar* are teh best gaem companie ever nd id really like to see u guyz add horeses and unicrons to gtav No, what they'd look for if anything is a well thought out, decently sized, nicely punctuated and grammatically correct post. Please bear in mind though that there are other much more direct ways of contacting Rockstar and making an account here and posting in the Wishlist topic really won't get your opinion noticed as much as either contacting them directly or writing a well thought out post. 2: The second thing to remember is that Rockstar do not own these forums, we're not even sure if they visit as the only official Rockstar account that's been registered here was Rockstar Toronto (who were only really a troubleshooting group) and they've not been active for a number of years now, please keep that in mind. So by association the staff members, whether they be forum led-bys like Ryan or Kirsty, moderators like Knife or Adriaan or even Administrators like Andrew or Waddy know no more about the game then you do. They're not "hiding" anything from you guys, they're not withholding any secret information given to them by Rockstar's secret ninja spy monkeys, no they're just normal people who happen to be staff members. Therefore there's no need to make such ridiculous accusations and by extension no reason to pester the staff because you think that they've been chosen by Rockstar to hold specific information. Okay we've got the outta' the way, good now let's move on to something a little more advanced, topics & searching. Now I see a whole bunch of you newbies come right on in here and post the first thing that's on your minds, don't get me wrong this is an internet forum after all and you're free to inquire and talk about Grand Theft Auto V as much as you wish, just please do it in the appropriate areas. That's rather vague but here I'll try to explain a little better, whenever someone goes to make a topic it seems to me that they never, ever, ever bother to click on that little search button: I mean come on guys, it's not a hard thing to miss is it? Look no-one's got any issue with you discussing what you want in the game but when there are five topics on the front page of the board discussing the same thing, it gets a little bit laughable. I mean it's all well and good if you want to be able to talk about, I don't know the weapons in the game, but don't go and make a new topic for it when all it takes is one quick search and you could find a dozen other topics that are discussing the exact same thing. So that's the first bit of topic posting done, the second bit is a little trickier for some to understand, I'm hoping that you don't start lagging behind here lads since this is were the important stuff comes in. Now, I might be a little out of the ordinary in this day and age but y'know what? I still prefer quality over quantity and if we're going to talk about discussing Grand Theft Auto V then I should probably lay down some ground rules as to what constitutes as a good thread. 1: Is it a minor feature? Do you want to be able to do something so minor as to lock a door by pressing a button or discuss the possibility of what hair cuts the protagonists of the game could get? that's fine, but unfortunately there's really not a whole lot that can be discussed about said features so what do you when you want to get your opinion out there (even though as I've already mentioned there are a tonne of better ways to do so) then please post in the aforementioned Wishlist topic. 2: How interesting is it? Now it's all well and good when you about constructing a well thought out thread but please try to make the topic of discussion interesting. No we don't all want to know what the interior of the cars would look like, nor do we want to go through the process of labeling each and every individual feature of said vehicle. To a large majority of people that doesn't stimulate discussion and often leaves you bummed out since your topic didn't recieve the attention it deserved and the individuals who visited your page have now unthinkingly branded you and your topic as boring and will no longer bother to read it. Now obviously this isn't as big of a deal as the first rule but if you actually want to garner any proper attention then you'd best make sure your topic of discussion is interesting, if it isn't then your thread's not going to fair all that well and end up stranded in the ocean made up of threads just like yours. Yeah I know, I know that's not fair but then again not everything is and some people just aren't up for discussion about menial things like the options menu and the like. 3: Is it appropriate? Now far be it from me (the author of the "should children be killable" thread) to judge what is and isn't appropriate to be discussed on these forums, pretty much anything is fair game but for the few of you that can't quite comprehend common sense we're not going to be discussing something like Watch_Dogs versus Grand Theft Auto V. All that thread will do is gather hate from a lot of fan boys and it won't end well. At the current stage of development neither game's been released so there's really no way to compare them other then what the developers and publishers choose to show us, and you should never trust marketing and marketing alone, make your own decision on a game when it's released, not from what you've seen in a three minute long trailer. If you really wish to discuss such things luckily one of our very helpful forum led-bys Miamivicecity has made a thread just for this type of discussion, so please if you do wish to discuss such trivial things instead of making a new thread to discuss GTA V vs [insert Game Name Here] please post it in the official "GTA V and its competitors" thread rather then making a new topic for just that purpose. Right so you can probably tell that the kind of discussions we want to encourage here are drastically different from the ones you're used to hearing about. Yes it's fine to talk about whether nudity will play a large role in the next Grand Theft Auto, but it's not really appropriate to compare it to other games, at least at this stage in its life, please make such comparisons when you have ground to stand on, until then you're basically spouting out a load of old rubbish. Now for those of you who've come here simply for information and all you want to do is find out about the latest news, screenshots and what have you I recommend that you keep this topic bookmarked, it's updated every time Rockstar make even the tiniest little peep and anything big like a trailer or pictures will be shown and links will be provided for you to view them/watch them. If however, you're looking for more in depth coverage then simply check out the News subsection feature at the top of the GTA V Forum page: Here you can find pretty much anything from the music that's been confirmed in the game to the vehicle database discussing all of the vehicles currently known to be in the game. Now please note though these topics are situated in the news subsection and only really contain news they also contain some speculation, so once again I'd suggest you keep your eyes locked on Indi's topic here. Anyway, I hoped this helped a few of you newbies out and around the V section. If you're looking for a much more extensive newbie guide that offers information on a much broader range of forum questions, subjects and discussion please check out Miromiro's Newbie Guide. Though for those of you looking to learn about BBcodes and don't care for much else I'd advise you to check out GTA3Rockstar's BB code tutorial topic. universetwisters
this should be pinned. Seconded. Good job Lightning, I'd give you a cookie, but f*ck that. For all your work, I'm giving you all of them! Also, maybe you should tell them that the III-era character stay in the III-era, and not the HD one? jamieleng
Most won't, but I DID read all of it. I think a lot of people create topics just to garner a bit of attention, either positive or negative. I mean, I can make a great post & have it appear at the bottom of the page, where nobody reads it. I'd rather have that happen, than be thought of as a troll or an idiot. It would be nice if there was a pinned 'FAQ' that lists all the things a layman GTA fan might not know & makes longtime members groan. My biggest bugbear being the "Wouldn't it be cool if (insert III era character here) was in GTA V" Probably better to arrange the main points of this topic into bullet points at the top of the post & then the detailed explanation below. saintsrow
Fast forward to July 2014, Wall Street Journal interview with Dan Houser: WSJ: Thanks for granting us an interview, Mr. Houser. We know your time is precious. WSJ: Just to set the stage, we want to remind our readers of the background. In the past 8 months, the video game GTAV has grossed more revenue worldwide than all of James Cameron's movies put together. Everyone on earth (including the astronauts on the space station) from age 3 to 113 is playing GTAV. WSJ: Due to GTAV's unprecedented and phenomenal success, Rockstar Games (RSTR) has emerged independent from the former TTWO and is now a pure play sandbox gaming company with market value greater than Apple Computer and Exxon combined. This is not the same world we were living in, just 8 short months ago. WSJ: Mr Houser, this entire phenomenon is just unbelievable. What led to this incredible worldwide success of GTAV? Dan Houser: We were on track to put out GTAV, the next game in the series, with more of everything that the players want to see -- more crime, more guns, more cars, larger map, you know, all the usual stuff. We expected that GTAV would be big, really big. Dan Houser: But the thing that drove GTAV to become a worldwide addiction, something that no one could resist, something that hooked every demographic on the planet, was when we added the unicorns. Dan Houser: We got this message from a fan: "oH my god rockstar* are teh best gaem companie ever nd id really like to see u guyz add horeses and unicrons to gtav" and it just hit home with us, like a bolt from the blue, like an A-bomb from the mind of god, GTAV NEEDS UNICORNS!!!!! From that moment on, we knew we had no choice, we had to add the unicorns. The rest is history, as they say.
