Well, to this day, SA remains king in the fun department. IV was a stepback in terms of fun, variety and gameplay. But the visuals were so improved, it felt like a trade-off.

I wouldn't say it was just the visuals. The gameplay wasn't a step back although the variety was. The car physics were a great improvement. Even for those who don't like the handling in GTA IV and find it unnecessarily difficult, one can't deny that it is far more complex than in any previous GTA. Improvements extend to the Wanted system, the physics, the shooting and fighting mechanics. It was all still a bit clunky, especially by today's standards, but that is all a great improvement. In terms of gameplay mechanics, it has a lot more depth than any previous GTA. But it lacked the variety and sheer amount of content that previous GTAs and especially San Andreas had, which is a step back. And as far as enjoyment of the story and atmosphere goes, that's simply preference.

 

To segue this into the topic at hand, what will make V a great game is that fact that it will combine the greater depth of IV's mechanics (tweaked and improved, of course) with the variety and content of previous GTA's. This is a formula that I think has a very small chance of failing. The game's not going to be perfect, and I can expect that some people will have major gripes with it come release day, but I think that it will be an overall very well received GTA among the general fanbase, significantly more-so than IV (and this comes from someone who feels that IV is quite underrated by the fanbase).

 

For me personally, if the game is anything like the screenshots, trailers, and limited bits of info lead us to believe, I'll really enjoy it. I have pretty reasonable expectations for it: I'm of the opinion that the city of Los Santos itself looks kind of small, but this doesn't really bother me that much. I think that the car handling might possibly be a bit more arcade-y than IV's, which would be a step down in my opinion but that doesn't really bother me either, I doubt it'll be that bad, and this is only assuming that their statement that it will be more like a racing game doesn't refer to realistic, simulator-style racing games. I'm not expecting car customization to be in, nor any particularly more in-depth character customization than in IV.

 

So this is me assuming that the game is what the previews and marketing material have said the game will be and nothing more, and I'm quite happy with this. I'm not saying that there won't be anything in the game that I won't like, that I won't have any criticisms or even some small gripes. I think I probably will. But I'll still really enjoy it, I'm quite sure. The game would have to end up being something very different for there to be a problem. It would have to be broken on an extreme level.

 

So let's say that it was, hypothetically. All I can say is that I'd be really disappointed. I can imagine having a sort of sinking feeling as the excitement of finally playing the game subsides and I realize that I'm not having any fun and I'm not enjoying the story. Well, that would really suck. Thank goodness that this isn't going to happen, at least not for me. I'll keep this is mind when I finally play the game so that I enjoy it even more.

That would be very disappointing and my anticipation for this game would have just been a big waste of time. I hope that isn't the case though. It's possible. People here will say it's not possible - or even bash you for thinking so - but truth hurts, V could possibly suck. The info sounds good but what if it's not what it's hyped up to be? And if the handling for cars is screwed up, the game will already an 8/10 and then it goes down from there. I like driving in V so if it's screwed, this game will not be as enjoyable for me.

That is only because quality plays a big role in the development, especially if we are talking about a videogame developer like Rockstar Games. I'm sure they are able to release their games on time but that's not always possible with their high standards.

Yeah, that's the official delay that Rockstar has announced in late January but we know from Take-Two's finance reports that GTA V was expected to release in or before March this year. And if we take into account that the announcement of the game was in October 2011 and the debut trailer was published just a week later, chances are that the initial release was before 2013. At this point, we cannot count the exact amount of delays that happened if we would include the internal delays as well.

With everything said here about it being impossible for the game to be bad, quality isnt everything.

They are taking a "Bold new direction" so there is a possibility that this multiple character thing falls on its face, no matter how polished.

 

More than likely this game will be great, going on past games we have no reason to believe any different, but we wont know until release.

i thought IV 's story telling was really good, the voice acting etc was top notch.
