That's pretty much the basic mix for any intriguing story.  A good location, a good set of protagonists, a lore that fascinates, and an opponent that threatens them.

If you're looking for some stories to study in exemplary fanfiction, I'd recommend reading Uncle Sikee Atric's Crosscode fanfiction, or Slimeball Supreme's The Red Triangle, or even City of Lies by Mokrie. They're stories with vastly different styles that are written with passion, and contain all of the components which make up good stories in established universes.

All you really need for a story to have the ability to be interesting is character, conflict, and conclusion.

You also have to remember what you are writing....  Go into it with an overall plan, maybe even a rough storyboard in place, if you're planning to make it longer, or have a different intention.

I also have a second piece that I write and I publish elsewhere, due to the story content being a lot more 'extreme' in all regards.  But that story is a playthrough of a Rimworld colony, where I imposed a set of rules on myself and ended up making one of the most memorable games I have played.  I logged the character interactions and progression, turning it into, what I call, the 'Dark Soap Opera' that became the final result.

There is a taster here for a story that has already gone over 200K words, and it shows another style of my writing, because this story isn't about intrigue.  It still has threat and enemies, but the story is much more in the style of a slice of life progression story.  It could still offer you some ideas for how to write your own work.

The entire fic is posted on a more fiction-friendly site, since I joined it to cross-post my Longfic to attract a bigger community and the content itself is graphic in more ways than one.  I'm glad I did start posting there as well, since it's attracted a dedicated community as a result.

If you want a direct link Ziggy, I can PM you one, if you're interested?

Now I can share links and stuff, I do have a GTA fic and a Bully fic that I can share here. I'm just a bit sheepish about sharing it. Not because I think it's bad, the reason being it's a bit of crossover fare. For a bit of context, I kinda get annoyed by Naruto crossovers given they're basically everywhere and a lot of them are pretty shoddily made. So ironically, I ended up working on a Naruto/GTA project with a friend...and we ended up with a prototype...which didn't work out. He ended up making a Naruto/GTA fic focused more on GTA IV, and I took the prototype which was more based on GTA Online to the fic it is today.

I just wanted to ask how goes posting about it because on top on the fic being on Ao3, I've also made my own GTA styled wallpapers of characters within the fic. I just wanted to how I can get it all rolling in terms of posting.

Make a thread and split it into chapters....

My own fic is posted here first, then updated to Ao3 the following weekend, and I have more material up there, which is not allowed here, given the content.

Thank you for the advice. The fic in question is already about to be 100+ chapters so a thread to do that might be a bit impractical. But I suppose I can get the pilot chapter for it posted at least...maybe make a thread for the flashback chapters that focus on the events of GTA IV. I do have one question about the fan art I made for the fic...what section would be best for GTA-styled wallpapers?

That's not really a problem, you can see my own piece is well onto the second page (will probably soon be the third, given I'm editing a new chapter now), as are many others here, and there's nothing to stop you putting 2 or 3 onto one post if they're shorter as a whole.

You can integrate the images into the text, if you host them via a third party.  I have a BlueSky account and that can host images, which can be linked and uploaded directly at the correct points, for instance, I use it to host images of snippets for my own work, thus :

https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_fullsize/plain/did:plc:wstuacpnzw6aaepv3kirsjl2/bafkreidpl56eyxxhyx3bmk472p4uxzo4ywyu5aemss7otmr7zr7s6nmcs4@jpeg

(This is a copy / paste of the images from the BlueSky post I originally made to show off this snippet.)

They can be added to your written piece as necessary from the third party hosting, other in this section already do that.  But if you want to upload them separately to a different area of this forum, I would recommend the following sub forum :
