How do you guys deal with Depression and loneliness?

You feel bad on days like Valentine's Day because you're conditioned to feel bad by merchandisers and advertisers paid to promote the "holiday" and sell products. Obviously something as couple-centric as Valentine's Day is going to drag you down, more so if you feel isolated and alone for most of the year. The best advice I can give is work on being happy alone. It isn't easy and there's a reason I said "work on" - it is work. It isn't easy for some people, because we're our own worst critics. It's easier to focus on the bad because we feel self conscious about admitting our good qualities. We've been taught that it's egotistical, and that it's bad to brag. While arrogance isn't necessarily a good trait, confidence certainly is. People can pick up vibes better than you think. If you're content with yourself you'll find it's a lot easier to open up to others.

I remember I hated Valentine's Day; it was rubbing my face in it. Realising the commercialism and how empty it is helped. But I'm in a relationship, so I am duty bound to play ball, now.

Depression, however, is serious. If you're suffering, get help. It's difficult, and can take a while but reach out, and do so relentlessly. CBT or therapy are options. For Brits and Canadians, were lucky as it's free and I know the us for example you'd have to pay, but depression can get very, very bad. Aside from suicide, it can stop you living. Getting a job, socialising, living your life is almost impossible.

If you're just feeling a bit bummed, go for run or work out, write or paint, hang with your mates, rub one out, whatever will cheer you up!

I hope you're in the latter catagory, because depression is a f*cking killer


In terms of how to 'Cope' I find poetry effective in venting.

I'm not just feeling a bit bummed, I'm feeling 'Depressed'.

 

I've had this feeling for months, and it doesn't help that I don't have friends, most people who understand me are dead. So, who am I supposed to reach out to? I don't trust the shrink, because I used to have major psychological conditions, and he'll think as if it was some kind of relapse.

 

(My therapy was supposed to end two years ago, I mention depression and BAM! One more year burning a hole in my pocket, or to be more precise, in my bank account.)

 

I find De Staat to have a calming effect. The dark and melancholy mood strikes me as something I'm very familiar with.

Depression is like any illness. If you get help, it's possible to manage it or sometimes banish it. But ignoring it or not addressing it, it might get worse and could end up really serious

It's generally another game script, but set in Brazil. I really don't have the same passion I once had for writing to continue with an original story. One day, I will work on the novel I've had planned for a long time, but that day wont be any time soon. This is more just for a bit of fun.

I'm almost as bad as Oxidizer was...

 

I'm sure at least 1 or 2 people will catch that reference. I'm recently finding my passion for writing once more. No idea why I switched off for so long, but best not to force anything.

 

I'm gonna start blank with something soon. Hope everyone is well.

Good to see you back man! Yeah it's difficult when you're in that rut. With a full project it is indeed best not to force it but inactivity also breeds inactivity. It's important to get writing again when you're not, and forcing yourself if exactly what's needed sometimes. You can do that with shorts or side projects - that's what RUN is - and your bigger project won't suffer and can reap the benefits.

 

Of course, with this section as quiet as it has been for the last year or so, I've begun to wander if here is a wise place to post or not. I honestly don't know what the future has in store for WD, but seeing you back, at least, does give me some hope, even if it's naive or short lived as it is whenever ziggy pops up

To be honest I haven't been active lately but I've been writing choc-a-bloc. I've actually sent off some short stories and I'm currently writing one called I Fell In Love With A Pornstar! My writing has increased tenfold lately. I'm gonna stick around a bit now though as I've got out of uni and I'm working. How's everybody else doing anyway?

Well, I personally am not doing good, I got professional help, but even though she is a lot lot better than what my previous doctor was, she's not helping, even though it's my fault really.

 

I don't know what happening, but I feel really bad.

Sudden bouts of Paranoia, a lot of pain across my entire back, feverishness...I live on paracetamol these days.

 

Sorry, I do not mean to constantly annoy people, it's just that you guys are the only people who actually don't ignore me. So thanks Albany, Mokrie and Carbon for talking to a suffering madman and giving him a break from constantly brooding and drinking.

Anybody here remember "The Bar" topic. Where people wrote their own characters into a progressive story? And the timeline of the events of the bar were updated as it went on.

 

That was a fun topic, I wanna see it again. It was best for the more serious people in that topic, as there will always be those few trolls, or wannabee's who write in their super hero characters doing james bond moves.

 

That was prob one of my favorites though.

Hey Mokrie? You still have the format to 'The Bar' don't you?

For anyone who doesn't know, The Bar was a collaborative writing project where people would describe events happening in... well, a bar, believe it or not. There was no real end goal to it, but it was interesting seeing other characters play off each other as timelines often ran parallel. People would work together and use each other's characters sometimes to further a plot and give other people ideas on how to further develop the seedy goings-on of a bar where it's advised you bring your own glasses and don't start any trouble.

 

I see it's still open, though I would advise a complete overhaul.

If someone wants to do the work to overhaul it, and post a new version, go for it. I have no problem with a mammoth bump of the existing topic, either.

The bar and one shots were fantastic topics, and I'd love to see them flourishing again.

 

But whoever does so, they need to be aware that most of the time activity dwindles off here so as great as it may be, it might not last. But yeah I'd like to see it back

I think that the original layout for the bar is fine. As long as it's moderated, and the trolls don't win, it should be fine. I'd be fine with a mammouth bump in the old topic. Maybe we just erase the history thats happened already, and everybody just starts blank again.

Strange - I've just tried the code for myself and it wouldn't work.

Are you pasting the code into the editor in it's default state?

 

If you haven't already, click the light switch icon () in the top left of the editor and it will switch to a BBCode View and the table code should work fine. There is a slight problem that tends to occur though and that is that a space gets created above the table as you can see from Mokrie's post above. That can be fixed by removing the line breaks after every closing [/th], [/td] and [/tr] tag although the code is then harder to read than the clear layout above if you need to edit it later on.

 

For example, Mokrie's Test Code with the line breaks removed would read:

And that should display fine without any space created above by the editor. Just be sure to do it with the BBCode View on.
