You guys okay with fanfics? I'm working on one at the moment but I remember there was some criticism in the past here, saying they were boring and repetitive etc. I'd be ready to publish in a couple of weeks or so.

The is nothing wrong with fanfics

They get a bad name but that's due to the many poor quality ones out there. But there are some great ones too. Just like original stories.

 

We do encourage people to write original works, but fanfics are perfectly fine. They do need the same amount of work though - be patient and don't rush

Rico- Fanfics are a great way to build up your writing ability, this is because you are basically writing about established characters, or established worlds or something like that.

 

Some people think that people who write fanfics are wasting their time, they are wrong. If you post your story, and if someone tells you that is a futile exercise or something like that, point them a Cassandra Clare or S.E. Hilton or maybe E.L. James, because they all started writing fanfics.

 

I advocate fanfics, if you need an example of a good fanfic, for inspiration purposes, look at Mokrie's works, they are very nicely written.

Hey Mokrie, do me a favour, don't tell them I play football, they'll obviously want a Royal Bengal tiger playing football in there. You know, maybe they'll want matches, and after that FIFA 17 will have a Lion vs. Tiger mode.

Just watched 'Coming to America' again and I have to say that this movie deserves a remake.. I was thinking; What if the remake was starring Donald Glover and when they flip the coin it shows the other side and they go to Los Angeles instead?

 

They would be introduced to the quite bizarre culture of L.A including yoga, floating, drugs, hollywood, gang culture and technology. For me this would be f*cking amazing. What do you think? Is this good enough to be sent to Hollywood?

No, it damn well doesn't. It's a classic, and only bad films DESERVE a remake because they need improving. Good films like CTA deserve to be celebrated and not undermined with a poor, remake cash-in. I strongly dispise this endless remake cycle the movie industry is in. I've seen some unique scripts and I don't even read that many. That's what they should look at, and independent movies. New ideas - they are out there. But the sheep-like public go crazy for a sequel or reboot, and it does my head in. Do not touch the classic movies. Do not remake the good sh*t - remake the poor movies, because you can't ruin what's already crap!

Don't get stuck on the word 'remake'. This movie will be set L.A and have a completely new plot. The only way it's alike from the original movie is the fact that the main character is an African prince going to America. Worth mentioning is that he's not searching for love but happiness.

I think the awards bring out s bit of effort from people. As writers, we all want recognition and the awards are a chance for that beyond the odd comment. Congrats to saintsrow for best story and 3rd best writer. Hope to see you grow and improve and create a wonderful masterpiece!

Hard luck to athende; had my vote for the sheer volume of contribution, and deserved a little medal, IMO. I'll get my gta story done in time for next year! Haha

Unfortunately, I have IE and am having a terrible time getting things copied and pasted to the forum. I've written a great big chunk of a GTA IV fan fiction and now have no way of sharing with you guys. I may need to get rid of IE and get a whole new browser. I don't know what's involved with doing that so I guess posting my stories is on hold.

 

Any suggested would be helpful.

I have Mozilla Firefox, and whenever I copy paste stuff into the forum, it gets mashed up together like someone emptied a whole tub of superglue on it, and then I have to edit it, again.

 

I dunno if the problem's with my browser or MS Word.

I edit in Word or Wordpad, but then I copy it all and paste it into Notepad, to convert it to generic text. It's true that I have to sometimes redo paragraph separations, and some indentations, and edit in the hyperlinks and any special formatting, but using Notepad is less pathological than directly copy-pasting from a more versatile word processor.

For me, Firefox actually works perfectly on these forums without a single issue, but it's Chrome where sh*t gets messed up anytime I try to C&P something from another forum post.

 

It's why I was forced to completely re-do my award nominations after my original post over there looked nightmarishly messy.

I sometimes lose breaks in between paragraphs when copying from OpenOffice. But it's not a bad thing because it forces me to re read what I'm uploading and gives a final chance to catch any errors. Some still slip through though but you can always have one more proof read

So hey, February is coming, but why does it seem like it's late March already?

 

It's close to 30 degrees down here, evening are just mildly cold.

 

Fought with my instincts today and posted a not-so-properly edited chapter today. Although Firefox f*cks up my spacing, it does have me redo sentences, which is good.

 

And sh*t haven't I written properly in a long time.

 

Although The Witcher 3, MGSV TPP and Fallout 4 are to be blamed, I need to put in some time daily.

I need to start writing again. I've considered writing about living toys, in the vein of Toy Story or Small Soldiers. I've really been inspired by this website made by a collector of Army men and other toy soldiers, called thortrains.net, and it showcases a lot of classic war toys.

 

I'm thinking it could either have one central protagonist (a plastic modern Army man) or multiple protagonists from multiple factions.

I think it's a concept that could be very interesting. Certainly I have a love for Toy Story, as it captures that magic that surrounds toys for kids, and even small soldiers. It's something that could go to many places, so yeah, I'd give that a read. Got a lot of catching up to do reading tbh.

 

And of course, there's the selfish wish for this section to be more active, of course.

I've got a short film script if anyone wants to read it. I'm happy with the theme and overall concept but I'm just not satisfied with the actual story itself, can't quite put my finger on it. If anyone fancies having a read I'll be very appreciative. It's only 11 pages (script pages so pretty short)

Throw it up man, I'll look at it if it's not too long (longer stories are queuing up!). I can't offer technical advise on the script, but i can throw my two cents in on the story at least.
