I totally agree, the Vault tutorial was an awesome establishment of who you were and where you were. The safety of it and the nostalgic vibe really sets the tone, and then all that kind of gets turned on its head in the later plot and setting. They did good on that. My only gripe is that you can't skip the tutorial. After my first time I loathed doing it over and over, especially since the choices you made didn't really change dialogue or events that happened at all.

My problem with that is that I'm forced into playing this 19 year old who has to find Dad, completely defeating the purpose of an RPG where I can make my own character and play him or her however I want. In the first two game, I could be aged from 18 to 60 and could be anything from a psycho murderer to a good saint, not to mention the stupid playthrough, and it would still work in the plot.

 

The game railroads me into playing as a kid, and even if I'm evil I still have to go along with the BoS. There's no join the Enclave route like there was with the Mutants in FO1. It wouldn't make sense for the mass murdering psycho to join the BoS in FO3. It did in the first game because there the BoS were kind of crazy technology worshippers who were kind of the lesser of two evils. The game completely fails as an RPG experience and as a shooter experience.

The story is about an Italian immigrant in the 1940s becoming the very first drug trafficker and drug lord.

There were drug lords before 1940s. Look up Al Capone or Henry Hill or whatever.

 

 

I hope all of you brilliant writers like my idea.

I do in theory but it kind of sounds like a rip off of Mafia 2, another horrible sequel I despise. Why not post the first chapter and blow me away with how awesome it is and how wrong I am?

Good point about FO3; joining the enclave would be cool. you can, in a very lazy way, with the evolved FEV, but that is a sucky thing.

 

NV kicks 3's ass when it comes to this. You can side or oppose ANY faction. To an extent. And it's not all black and white - there isnt really a good or bad guy, faction wise. CL has their merits and NCR their flaws ....

I haven't watched any anime for it has never been in my interest. Reason being the fact that I'm more of a realist and I cannot seem to get into the whole concept.

 

Al Capone is considered more of an bootlegger having an empire of selling alcohol during the Prohibition as for Henry Hill, he started his drug distribution in the 1970's.

My story is mainly about a man hoping for a better life and helping his community. In the chapter where Vito in Mafia II is selling drugs isn't really the main theme for the story. He did it because Henry convinced him to do it for the extra money. My story is completely different from Mafia II I assure you.

I don't know, kid getting into crime is kind of cliched around here. He starts out trying to help out but then it corrupts him and he does bad things blah blah blah, although I guess it would be interesting to see how you do it though. What's the twist though? What makes this different? Although getting it as far away from Mafia II is a very smart idea, considering how horrendously awful that game is.

I have heard of the Opium Trade in the 1800's and believe or not I'm trying to make it into a story but I need to get a bit more educated in the subject.

 

The story is not really like that, the main character is an educated college graduate trying to live good life in America but stumbles upon a different motive.

If it's written well and the character is good enough, old ground won't matter - you might be able to find a new way of showing it. In this day and age, very few subject matters have not been covered (there's probably even a book out there about a twitter romance).

 

It's all about the delivery.

Really having some trouble developing them.

 

I know I want the salesman (sociopath/fox) to be a complete narcissist, but I want it to seem believable. So you think if he was a car salesman that could help his character? I just want him to be a complete asshole of a person, mentally. As for the construction worker (psychopath/hound) I want him to be more physical and "in your face." He doesn't have to be a construction worker though. Something blue collar, though. Also, I want him to have a smart side, too. Similar to Tyler Durden.

Well, a salesman could work well enough, as well as some comedy scenes where Fox scams people into buying cars. A real snake, but everyone kind of trusts him and he can use this to his advantage.

I'd say brick layer might work out, means its more realistic for him to have a smart side. Not that I'm saying working in construction means your stupid, just that it still makes him in your face but he can still use this to his advantage.

 

But what do these two actually do? What's the plot? You haven't told us that yet. Is this like a bildungsroman where we follow them from childhood to adulthood? Do they appear to be completely normal people but underneath are really messed up, so one day they just snap? Or have they been doing bad stuff for a while? I think there could be this real homoerotic thing going on between them if they spent their entire lives together.

 

You should watch Death Note if you're into a sociopath protagonist. Its amazingly good.

So you say they are from different backgrounds. I guess one of them is this poor, abused kid and the other has this great childhood and they meet at school and become friends?

What kind of adventures? I imagine them having this sweet little childhood where they play in the forest while only hinting at their true insanity when suddenly one of them just murders a kitten and they laugh about it and you suddenly realize they're not your normal kids. Then things get worse as they go through teenagehood, as they do f*cked up things sexually, maybe even dabbling in something nonconsensual, and then they murder a hobo. They get into an argument about it and break off, then find each other again when they're around 30. I could imagine it working.

 

But what if they realize that each other is completely messed up and that's what makes them closer to each other? They realize their chaotic nature. You could do this whole Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold thing. One of them is a true psychopath who would always grow up to be a monster no matter what whereas the other one could have lived a normal lifestyle but just has some serious anger issues he has boiling up inside, creating a toxic friendship.
