Taking multiple protagonists to the next leve

HOW'S ANNIE?

I'm aware GTA V hasn't come out yet, so Rockstar don't know exactly how fans receive the idea of multiple protagonists until it's released. But, if they chose to use it in future, I have an original idea on how they can take it to the next level.

The idea... Literally a non-linear story line. You take control of two or more protagonists (or hell, they might even be the same guy) living in different periods of the city's existence, being able to switch between them at will. Instead of showing the crosssections of culture (which is being done in V) this will more-so show how American culture has changed over the course of time.

For example say the game is set in Vice City: you take control of two protagonists, a cuban refugee in the 80's and a free-lance driver (like Claude) in the 21st century. Throughout the game, you're given choices as you're 80's protagonist which will effect the protagonist in the 21st century (it could even allow the 80's protagonist to be the 21st century antagonist).

With the high processing power next generation consoles will have it will more easily allow a switch between the two, or more, with a much faster loading time.

What do you guys think?

Maybe playing 1/3 of the storyline like a guy in the 80's, this guy has a son and his son got a friend, then this maincharacter dies, so you start playing like on of his son's friends in the 90's (when he has grown up), and then after playing 2/3 of the storyline, something makes this guy move to another country or city, so you start playing as one of his friends (or son/brother/uncle etc) and now you have to kill those people who made the second maincharacter move out of the city.

I would only be down for this if you could switch between characters/time periods at will during free roam. Otherwise, the "non-linear" story would just feel like linear gameplay (like CoD).

Personally, I'd like to see R* try multiple protagonists in a Red Dead sequel. Imagine it takes place during the Civil War and you can control one brother fighting for the Union, another brother fighting for the Confederacy, and maybe a freed African slave or a Native American for a possible third and/or even fourth protag. Could be epic next gen. cool.gif

I'd love the ability to affect the modern storyline by choices you make as 80's guy. For example, as a 80's you may have a kill one or another mission and whomever you spare appears later in the story.

Yeah, I was talking about being able to switch protagonists in free roam, similar to what they're doing with GTA V, except each protagonist has their own time period.

Multi protagonists in Red Dead sounds like an interesting idea, thehe only thing about it is that it the seperate stories wouldn't have as much variety as GTA would.

Excellent idea, but I disagree in some points:

I think it would be better to have a linear storyline divide in three parts (every part is the story of a character) so every decision we take could affect the future (and so the next character's plot)

I also hope we would be able to discover the whole story only if playing as the three protags.

Would be also cool if each character had a special ability, to make then even more unique.

Obviously, there must be a mission/challenge that requires a special ability, so we could pass the mission with a specific character, and we also would be ''forced'' to use all characters.

It would be even better for multiplayer.
