Node
Okay guys, firstly I don't want any stupid replies. When I was a little kid, specifically when I watched The Fast and The Furious (2001) for the first time I was inspired. I only recently (about 2 years ago) realized that I'd love to become an Actor. When people used to ask me what I wanted to be when I grow up I never knew what to say, until now but is it too late? I'm 18 5ft 4" (dayumm thats small) Skinny I lay in bed at night thinking to myself what it would be like to act and what I could do to achieve it but I never take any actions. I've signed up to StarNow but there isn't really anything there for me since I'm not a full member (you have to pay to become one) Plus I have no experience. There's a Drama center just across the road from me but I'm not sure if they do acting courses and I really lack the confidence to go in and inquire, there's also a college that does a performing arts course (specifically acting) but I don't have the correct GCSE's to enter. I live in the UK, Derbyshire to be specific and even if I had the balls to gain experience in acting there isn't much work around here? I don't have my own transport either. It seems like everything just goes against me which is most likely why I can't even be arsed to get out of the house and inquire about anything. Is 18 to old to being the process of learning and beginning work in the acting industry? Thanks for the advice guys!
Otter
Heh. 18 isn't too old for anything. For reference, a friend of mine admitted last night that he didn't star masturbating until he was 18. Weird, I know. Get over your nerves and ask about courses at the theatre. It sounds like a great place for you to get started and doubly so to help you deal with butterflies. Just do it. Its a hard lifestyle, but if it were easy, everyone would do it. I say go for it.
darthYENIK
No, you're not too old. If you're really interested, take the leap, take some classes, audition for any local plays or maybe a film or TV shoot in the area. There's not any one way to become a successful professional actor, and 1 out of 1,000 are hard work.
Creed Bratton
Go for it. You can sign up for some acting classes and go to auditions. 18 is not too late. I mean, it is pretty hard to break through and become somebody famous, but it's better to try and fail than live and wonder "what if". And when you get to the top, I'm counting on you to introduce me to the lovely lady from my signature. Edited April 13, 2013 by GTAvanja

Okay, it's a tough industry to break into but so is any industry at the end of it. If you feel like you've got the potential -and so do others- than why don't you at least give it a shot? There's no age requirement. Acting is universal. Give it a shot. "I might have laughed if I'd have remembered how."
Typhus
What's your voice like? A strong Northen or countrified accent can really f*ck you over. Trust me, I know. I wanted to be an actor too, you know. The problem? My accent. Know the typical 'Oo-Err' farmer? Yeah, I sound exactly like that. I have a voice that NO ONE could ever take seriously, in any capacity, in a million f*cking years. If you have a mainstream English accent, meaning one possessed by a Southerner, you could do very well indeed. Otherwise the prospects aren't as good. It probably sounds a lot worse to you because it's a source of your insecurity. And shouldn't actors know how to speak in different accents? Tyler
Well, you need to get yourself into some classes. Take improv or drama as soon as you can, get involved in a lot of community events like this. You might like the idea of acting now but like many said it's a demanding career that you'll get little thanks for unless you completely throw yourself into it. Passion is passion, turn it into something you can actually say you're doing to become an actor for a living. Also, 18's definitely not too late. Just begin to notice how you compose yourself more. Practice in the mirror much likes sims do, because that actually works. Be aware of what your strengths are, and when you find a role you want, try to fit yourself into that role. An actor is an artist. Good luck with your stuff.
Narcis_speed6
Just like you I also dreamed about being an actor, the only method for me at the moment is to make my own movie (more like a sketch) So far we got the basics down (video editing), let's hope we can all achieve what we want in near future. The Scottish Guy
I dunno, but this guys pretty good. He started off doing reenactments on YouTube and built quite an audience. I think he got a part on South Park playing the real life Cartman in an episode. Maybe a bit of inspiration for you.
The Scottish Guy
Thought I'd throw this one in to, as it's pretty well done. This guy really is quite good. Jurassic Park this time:
