You need to calm down and think for a moment. I understand that you don't want a 1:1 recreation. You want a city that's multiple times larger than LC, however, and while that would be nice, it's not realistically going to happen.

 

Think back to the last era of GTA games ... III, Vice City, and San Andreas. Was Vice City any larger than Liberty City back then? No, if anything it was a little smaller. Was it still a great game? Yes, and people still enjoy the hell out of it.

 

If you still want a bigger downtown area, I heard of this great game called Sleeping Dogs. It has tons of very tall skyscrapers and it's definitely worth checking out. It's even on sale right now!

I'm just glad R* is the ones making the decisions here and not you. The city looks great. It's the same approximate size as Liberty City, just like how Vice City, San Fierro, Las Venturas, Los Santos, and Liberty City were all the same size back then.

What the hell do you want then? Rockstar have clearly done an excellent job and, like the rest of us, you'll shut up and happily play the game come release day. There will be enough of everything to give Los Santos the atmosphere and variety it requires, and that's it, just like with every other gta.

Kesta - that aint far...do a comparison on google street view...no areas of the city are for example ...4 miles between each other. More short drives, more disappointment.

 

 

I have to say everyone, this thread has held its own. Decent debates from both sides on the whole.

I'm not necessarily saying it is far on the grand scheme of things, but I am simply trying to stress the point that there is a lot to the East and especially north east that we haven't seen yet, as the downtown skyscrapers there are as small/far away as I have seen yet from ground level. Also, regarding the CBD, yes it is a bit too small but:

Here it looks nicely packed. Again, from street level at the right angle it will look great. From the air at the wrong one it is going to look pretty sparse, but the same goes for LA, just not to the same extents, but to the same proportions, if you get me.

If this was a 2010 or 2011 release I would understand. Its the fact that R* will very likely take a similar time until GTAVI. The city needs to hold our interest for years to come.

 

I am SO bored with IV and was by 2011 ish.

The city of GTA III was a bit less than the size of all of the areas of GTA 2. The city of GTA IV was a bit less than the size of the entire world of GTA San Andreas.

 

If this pattern continues, the size of the city in GTA VI will be a bit less than the size of the entire world of GTA V. That's a city nearly 5 times the size of RDR

 

And then the last GTA game for that generation of consoles will be more than 3 times the size of that. That's like 15 RDRs.

Well you may as well think of it this way: the only part of the city that will be lacking is the size. Evidently that is a highly important factor for a lot of people on here, myself included but not to your extent (no disrespect) but it is immediately apparent that the vibe is spot on and the city is very well populated and detailed. I can empathize with a lot of you and originally I felt the same, but I can't put my finger on why I believe the city is going to be bigger than we are perceiving it to be right now. It's probably a combination of a lot of things: surrounding mountains dwarving the city, improved draw distance, very high angle shots etc.

The land area of V is 22 sq miles and the city is approx one sixth to one eighth of the city. Do some fricking research !

You do realize that SA is 6x6 kilometers, right? And that the 3d perspective based image modeling is correct? You can't mess it up with as many angles as he used - that is accurate, the city is bigger than IV, about the same amount bigger than IV as SA is.

 

SA is precisely 3.72823 x 3.72823 miles. IV was not very dense. This is way more dense than IV was, and doesn't have 2 giant rivers running through it - dude bro, it's massive. It's the biggest city ever put into GTA. it will not be that much bigger than liberty city when viewing the map, but it will feel 10x as big, I can nearly promise you that much.

 

Liberty City is slightly smaller than SA, might as well call them the same size they are so close, but the rivers take up a large part of that space -> LS in V is now fully proven to be every bit as big as, actually bigger than, Liberty City, thus, yes, LS is as big as the whole of 2004's san andreas, and that does not include ocean nor countryside/rural areas.
