Serious question: why does it matter? I can see getting pissy if the city alone was the entire map, but it's not.  Not even 1/4th of the map.

Exactly. We get one city to roam around for the next 5+ years. I want it to last. Knowing that the city is around 1/8th the map makes me think the proportion is off.

 

I will love the game either way. But people who think the city is bigger than LC are just wrong. I will concede it will at most be equal.

The Scottish guy - unfortunately dude , even if you are correct and the city ratio IS 1:5 , that means the entire map is only 5 times larger than that pissant little town in the pics.

But that's the point I'm trying to make. I don't actually believe the ratio is 1:5, I am rather stating I wish that were the case, which is looking more and more not to be.

Based on the scale of LC buildings- downtown LS is a very tiny bit bigger than 2 x Middle Park area in LC. This is a goddamn disgrace.

Not really, it is possible to fit about half of downtown LA into Central Park, so they have only reduced downtown by a half RELATIVE TO GTAIV (just in case anyone accuses me of saying downtown LS = 1/2 downtown LA)

I don't think this game will be playable for up to 5 years, as countryside gets old, fast. Not to mention the fact that downtown LS is just a tad bigger than 2x Middle Park. (Based on the scale of IV's buildings)

Well continuing from what I just said if you can fit 2 middle parks in downtown LS then it is appropriately scaled.

For all you guys out there that are thinking LS is bigger than LC- I'm making a block by block representation based on the panoramic screenshots we've seen so far. And it's turning out to be considerably smaller than LC, I can tell you that much.

Evidently blocks in New York and blocks in Los Angeles are developed differently. LA has bigger blocks that come with different shapes as oppsed to square after square. I have to say, you're gonna' get inaccurate results.

I would even say the playable area ( no water and mountain spaces) is probably even smaller than San Andreas as a whole. ( and I know what they all said. SA, IV and RDR combined and 3.5 times RDR and all the comparisons)

Inero...dont be TOO disappointed yet. I believe the msg was lost in translation. CVG today stated 20-25-30%..lets go with 25%...they saw 180-220 degrees approx of the map . Ie at most 5/8ths of the map. Ie

 

1/4 approx times 360/200degrees (i will go with middle approx)

 

That is 4 times 1.8 or 7.2 times the city size. The land area of LS city is approx 1/7 of the land area of the map.

CVG couldn't even see most of the map, why do you think they said they are estimating LS to be 1/8 of the map. Your very stupid. VERY stupid. HELL, even a rockstar official recently said we haven't even seen the whole game yet, STILL. If you can't trust rockstar, don't buy the game. Go play True Crime if you want a big map with sh*tty effort put into it.

Like I have been saying, GTA IV used a lot of tricks that GTA V looks to have dropped. For the people who actually understand what they're looking at in the screenshots/trailers, and who understand that we have maybe seen half of the city in any real detail so far, this city is going to be super badass.

Out of those 50 screens, atleast 25 of them are based on the same place from different angles. You need to go specsavers, or laser eye surgery.

It is all about what satisfies you. Some of us are satisfied with the size while others are not. I am good with the size but I understand the gripes people have with it being too small. However isn't there a chance that they are cramming so much into this game, on aging consoles, that you can't see that they have done quite a good job?
