Map Size Thread

Philley - your obviously an ignorant person because you can't see there are hundred of different potential sizes between 3 sq miles and 240 sq miles (true crime). CAN YOU ?????

You are ignorant if you can't accecpt the opinion of other people. Why is there a need for an even bigger city if we are already statisfied by the current state. You can't have everything.

I really feel sorry for you if you are constantly whining about how they failed in recreating the city because it's too small. Yeah, just ignore all the extras such as details, atmosphere, life, and more. Size is what matters, nothing more.

And if I have a dollar every time you mention that "3sq miles vs 240 sq miles" crap...

From the looks of it there are only 2 major beach areas in the LS area. I mean where is Redondo Beach, Huntington or Manhattan Beach? They can't just casually exclude them like they excluded rancho palos verdes and the entire eastern part of Los Angeles county. They left out pretty beautiful areas for more countryside, disappointing.

Oh dear. Lets just close this crappy thread until we have a propper knowledgement about the true size/shape/etc. of the city/map,....

If you want a virtual copy of LA use google maps street view. 3 sqm oder 5 or 10 or 240,....I will take what I get served. And with the current status I am ABSOLUTELY satisfied because you will not need more urban LS area (imho).

Because everyone wants only Los Santos in its full size. No one cares about the countryside, mountains, small towns, lakes, other coasts. Just the city.

Goddamnit. R* doesn't think the same way as you guys.

Los Santos is not a re-creation of LA. It's a re-imagination. There is a difference. They don't have to include everything from the real LA in their version of LA.

We never asked for an exact copy, just bigger and better. And without excluding these key-areas.

LA is enormous.

Here's hoping LS gives me a glimpse of how LA actually looks.

The screens and information we've seen so far suggest otherwise. Just read this thread, LS is far too dense and small.

Did you seriously only get temporary banned for a day? notify.gif Obviously it didn't help, you're still insulting people.

LS is smaller than LAX. Thats small. Cross it in 2 mins on a highway. Small.

lol lol.gif

Anyways, does anybody think we'll get much needed suburbia surrounding Los Santos. I think it's still possible, I mean we haven't seen what's directly lies behind the mountains of Los Santos.

Well, thanks for informing me or the only thing I would be anticipating would be disappointment.

As nothing indicates they included the south and north-valley area (so no SF valley or nothing) I think the odds are against suburban sprawl or any suburban neighborhood of significance being included. Let's hope I'm wrong.

after completely ignoring the valley in San Andreas it would be utterly disrespectful to not be included in GTA 5

Again there is no indication whatsoever of that being included, so probably not.

Anyone saying Los Santos is big enough. Just look at this screenshot taken from Mulholland Drive in the mids of hollywood hills. And no I don't want this, I do want something that resembles this.

Kifflom - calling someone ignorant is not offensive like calling someone a 'f*cking moron'...a little like my map size point, there are shades of grey in life, not one or the other binary choices.

Raavi has seen the light - why can't you ?

And before anyone point out - WE ARE NOT ASKING FOR THE PIC ABOVE ! - just something resembling a 'far off' CBD from the hills.

Still i feel its not only about the size; till now every GTA city really had a specific vibe to it, world ice city it felt like Miami, in san Andreas the 3 citys all felt different, the info we got now I feel Los Santos misses this, except for the beach I didn't see much which makes it special for that city, it almost could be any other city in the world, hopefully at the end I'll be wrong

Sorry those pics do not show that Los Santos looks big, I don't know what makes you believe that.

Well thats it - part of what True Crime did right with LA was MAKE the player drive for 10-15 minutes to a mission. Is this boring ?...well , your supposed to be a intelligent criminal , who has patience, skill, bravery and is a cut above his peers - and players get BORED ! IN 10 minutes.

I wish R* would FORCE players to grow up and give us a challenge - a decent 5-10 minute drive to a city mission with a pumping soundtrack would defintlely be more immersive than a 45 second drive a few blocks away.

Seeing the real LA just shows how pathetic R* representation of it is. It wouldn't of taken much effort to put a little 'filler' in the map - and make it larger - FOR f*ckING LONG DRIVES ! before any complains about repetitive buildings.

My biggest wish: Some R* representative should reply in here and explain to some guys in here why LS looks how it looks like now...

There are limits: Technic and gameplay wise. R* will have their reasons. Deal with it. Stop moaning. It will be great in its way. Again: You are getting so much in comparison to IV.

But tell me: How does LC/the map in IV looks to you?

Technical limitations, my ass! They can put a giant countryside but not a decent sized LS? You've got to be kidding me, right?

Fine , but typically NYC is not considered with 'sprawl' ( I know long island is huge and mostly urban)....

LA on the other hand deserved more.

Tech limitation dont come into when all we are wanting is some decent sized suburbs.

Well that's it - part of what True Crime did wrong was the frel of LA. It was very repetitious, not much great diversity, poor detail. I don't want V to look like TDU2 - which looked horrible - because some people want a huge ass, repetitious city. I want Los Santo big, but I do not want it repetitious, that would kill the vibe. Los Santos looks fine to me, it's just the sprawl that should surround it that bugs me.

We all know now, that GTA V's world will be 5 times the size of Red Dead Redemption, if you count underwater. That's a big-ass world for us to explore, from the first day, right there.

Nope! I suggest that the processing power needs to be on a far higher level in LS than on the countryside! Much for things to consider like NPC, traffic, AI und much more all compromised into one part of the map.

Yes, R* could have created a JC2-like map or a much large urban area: But with nothing on/in it? No wildlife, not much going on in the city/cities? Very little traffic? Always the same kind of missions?

come on,...

Philley - your point is similar to mine when considering flying over the city. For sure, that would be tough on a system.

Driving around though its only line of sight areas that are being rendered, hence the very smooth framerate indoors.

Extra suburbs on the periphery of the city would not affect performance ( at least on ground level)

No one here is arguing that V's map is small. The main city however is another story as it is small without any sprawl whatsoever. I rather have a decent sized city and less countryside than vice versa.

We're discussing the size of the Los Santos Metropolitan Area, not the whole map. How many times does this need to be addressed?

The Scottish Guy
But tell me: How does LC/the map in IV looks to you?

Much larger than the one we currently seeing of Los Santos.

Sorry, but I don't see how people can even begin to insist these screens are showing a city the same in scale to IV's LC. Yes, the dowtown area is much smaller, as it should be to reflect it's real life counterpart, but shouldn't that make the rest of the city seem larger, given that one of LC's main islands was basically just skyscrapers?

I keep looking at the distance between the shoreline to the east mountains, and that, to my naked eye, looks around the same distance between LC's airport and the Algonquin Bridge.

I truely, truely prey that I am proved wrong and made to look an idiot for this. Nothing would make me happier, believe me.

Ok guys, I am leaving this conversation as it is getting me tired. I appreciate the mostly factual discussion.

I will wait for the official website where the map might be released in advance or at least for the map in the games option screen as I think we will have a bit more urban area to the east, west and maybe behind the Vinewood Hills as discussed in other threads.

Keep it up, folks! turn.gif

^^ a lot of people are perhaps of the opinion that we hold on to the dogma of LS being small for fun !?...as others have mentioned, I would be all too happy for 17/9 , 9/17 to prove me wrong.

Ultimately, the pics dont lie - count the blocks between downtown and the beach to an approx level - its a short drive.
