With Los Santos, I believe that Rockstar are/have built a city that will capture a sense of the sprawl, but with the aim of not being repetitive or dull; this is the sort of LA that appears in tv shows and films, but not quite real life. LA Noire on the other hand offers a cartographically accurate (or close enough) version of (1940s) LA. Dan Houser has described in beautifully lyrical language Rockstar's vision when creating their locations in GTA.

People are complaining about the size, not the diversity. You can't judge the diversity of LS without playing the game. And almost every single preview praises the diversity. So I really don't see what all the complaining is about in the first place.

I'm sorry did I miss something? Name one GTA city R* have created that is an exact 1:1 of it's real life counterpart.

You certainly did miss something.

 

You missed the fact that time and time again, we have NOT said that LS in GTA V should be a life-sized replica of LA, nor do we expect it to be. We just want LS to reflect the real-life physical characteristics of LA within the capabilities of game's technology. And by that we mean seeing a significant amount of urban and suburban sprawl around the downtown area, not just clusters of homes and buildings dotted around nearby hills we see in the screenshots.

 

This is only city. Surely it should be very big AND detailed, done by Rockstar with relative ease ? So far, we cannot see just how LS looks very big in these images.

Of coarse it was smaller, the point is they fit every proper area into the space they had. The only borough that wasn't present was Staten Island, but it's the same as Jersey really, and we had Alderney for that.

Everyone's blowing the criticism way out of proportion with this 1:1 nonsense. I haven't seen any serious posts wanting a LS:LA comparison of 1:1. In fact, I don't even disapprove of the city size myself. I'm just not afraid to criticize R*; namely the countryside's alleged dominance of the map as I stated a page or so ago. I say "alleged" because I give R* the benefit of the doubt and say they have something hidden up their sleeves. Come September, if there turns out to be another region or smaller city to the east, then I can say I told you so to all of the people who were dicks about it. If not then, who cares...V looks amazing either way.

Nobody complained about the size of LC in GTA IV, because from the look of preview screenshots the city clearly looked HUGE in size duh !! You really are sounding a tad bit silly now.

 

Most people were actually amazed about how huge LC looked from the start. Read the earlier comments, we even think it's possible that LC from IV might even look bigger than LS in GTA V.

We are well aware of this. Which is why most of us are not requesting a 1:1 scale of Los Angeles (which would be simply delusional, impossible, and extremely tedious frankly), but rather a larger city than the visually apparent, below expected par one shown in the screens. As I've alluded to many times already, I'd be perfectly happy with an LS equivalent to the entire map of IV (water included), which you'd expect to be the very least, given it's been five years since our last city. Anything bigger, then even better.

 

 

And they've obviously spent a huge amount of time researching and constructing 'a city that both is and isn't LA' (Dan Houser). Rockstar are experts at their craft.

 

I don't doubt this for a second, believe me. Rockstar Games is one of the few companies in the entertainment business in general, whom I hold high respect and regard for. And the attention to detail in this game has been evidenced by the many screens released so far. That being said, high amount of detail also goes into waterfalls, trees, mountains etc, too. My point is, those resources could have been utilised to give the city a more sprawling feel, while still maintaining a vast wilderness.

 

Of course I haven't played the game yet, and obviously can't have a confirmed scale of LS, but I'm just going by what the screens are thus far telling me.

But how do you know that Rockstar haven't represented each of LA's main areas in Los Santos, in their approximate positions? Besides, you're dead wrong about Liberty City: In real-life, Manhattan is a heck of a lot smaller than the other boroughs, and The Bronx is attached to Manhattan - not separated from it by a bridge. Still, we all think of the game as being representative of NYC, and rightly so, despite that fact that it is just as far removed from its real-life counterpart as Los Santos is to Angeles.

Well first of all, as I've said before, it's a re-imagined version of LA. It's not going to contain every borough in the city realistically after all, LA is one of the largest cities on the planet! To fit all boroughs in the city into the game, each borough would surely be pretty small to cram it into a realistic sized city given all the features/improved graphics/current hardware etc...

 

Secondly, relative ease?! I don't think you quite understand how much effort R* puts into it's urban areas. I for one wouldn't want a diluted LA, would you?
