The reason why Los Santos looks smaller than it should is because the main focus here is Los Angeles. In real life, the City boundaries of Los Angeles isn't that big. The surrounding areas that make LA seem large are standalone cities like Anaheim, Orange, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, Long Beach, etc.

Huh? LA is like 450+ square miles....Not sure if you have ever been to LA, but it's land mass is HUGE.

FB, is it possible to use a method like finding out the length of the racetrack? Because you'd only have to multiply it by 10x to get the city size? Or wouldn't that work at all? Let's assume it's half a mile (500m) 0.5 miles, the whole city would be 5 sq miles roughly which is a good guess, even if it's off by a bit?

5 square miles is a good guess, but there are softwares that can figure out the square footages of irregular polygons. I don't actually know what to do with those calculators, but others on this thread sure do.

Grand theft Assasin. A half mile is 800m long. A very accurate size can be derived from Magic Als map.

I know. But let's be honest here, it's still a half decent method to use as a guess, and 4.5 sq miles isn't THAT far off from 5 sq miles really, is it? It is noticeable of course, but definitely not that a big difference.

GTA - your methodology of working out area is flawed. Multiplying a length by 'x' number will not result in the area.

 

Just grab the 1600 pixel version of Als map - create 1km 2 blocks and then convert to sq miles...or to be more accurate you could try is with 500m by 500m blocks or 1 quarter sq km. I have and its approx 4.3 to 4.5 sq miles. No more.

No... In real life Los Angeles is still huge, downtown is small, but the city limits are still huge... The metro area is what makes it the largest city area in the world. I live here, I know.

No... In real life Los Angeles is still huge, downtown is small, but the city limits are still huge... The metro area is what makes it the largest city area in the world. I live here, I know.

We should listen to him, he is right. Liberty City (New York) was very small because its a vertical city, Manhattan is mostly all skyscraper while Brooklyn(Broker) and Queens(Dukes) are the suburbs of New York. Los Angeles is not a vertical city, it is very spread out with business districts, industrial districts, the port, etc.. And the Metro area is the focal point of the city. Take a look at the gameplay when they are robbing the securicar, there is a warehouse area in Los Santos but it is far away from the U.S. Bank Tower.

It's wrong too, it's big, but he makes it seem bigger. The pink car at the end is like the size of a go kart.

It's fan made, but IRL it would be one of the islands around LA, like Santa Catalina.
