Map Size Thread

Whatever the actual size of the city is in comparison to IV - its aside from the point. V is not looking like the magnus opus it could of been . The lengthy development time has resulted in a game of many disparate activities / variety - I will grant it that ; all ruined by technical difficulties.

The framerate is honestly a little shocking from the gameplay video - microstutters in virtually every scene - one would of thought that could of been sorted out from IV. Twas not to be though.

The car handling is shocking.

LS city is just a pastiche of a real city. Its f*cking small - ie one can cross it in under 2 minutes on a highway.

I have played games for 20 years plus and CAN judge a lot, like many of you can , from footage. I knew from the first trailer than the city was just not going to be large enough to give a sprawling feeling. I accept that now. The real shame for me has moved away from the size of the city to the framerate. Note the smooth 2nd trailer compared to the gameplay video. Take a look at the scenes where the cops are chasing, sub 15fps at times. f*ck that!

Will I buy it ?....honestly !...it depends.

If you feel wholly happy with yourself making a final judgement on the entire game based on 4 minutes of gameplay then go right ahead. We aren't going to stop you from not buying the game.

Check what's wrong with your PC first. It was a constant 30 FPS.

The car handling is shocking.

Look at the Bodhi of Trevor. That handled as a car like that should.

Moreover, the two sports cars were confirmed by R* to be highly modified sports cars. Sports cars don't lean like a lorries as they did in IV.

LS city is just a pastiche of a real city

And what the f*ck else did you expect? Every single GTA city - including LC - was and will be a pastiche

I have played games for 20 years plus and CAN judge a lot

Fascinating story, bro. Tell me once more.

Take a look at the scenes where the cops are chasing, sub 15fps at times.

Do two things:

-Switch your apparently sh*tty computer.

-Download and check the video using FRAPS. It stays at 30 FPS and doesn't go down.

Will I buy it ?....honestly !...it depends.

Great tale! Keep it to yourself. smile.gif

This is all just wasted logic. People only see what they want to see and come to conclusions that best fit their line of thinking and no amount of discussion will change that. That's just how ego driven people are, there is no changing it.....and yes, he is ego driven otherwise he wouldn't be in the thread trying to garner attention by stating he might not buy the game we all like. Best to just tell him he's free to do as he pleases and go about our day.

OT: I can't believe you guys are still discussing this. I don't care what you do with your time, it just seems kind of redundant to keep traveling this circle. Game will be out in two months, try to focus your energy on the positive.

Join date has nothing to do with the validity of someone's post- you've been here a while yet you make the most asinine posts of anyone here besides chcotco. I wouldn't even call your judgments of the gameplay trailer bad- just laughable and kind of sad to see how you're working yourself into a frenzy over something you have zero firsthand knowledge of. Your life must be miserable.

I have stated quite clearly over several hundred posts in this thread the problems of a small city and what effect that will have on gameplay. The most glaring is how mission to mission distances will again be a 30 -60 seconds drive. Immersion - destroyed.

I have a I7 newish computer, its fine, there are MULTIPLE , MULTIPLE micro stutters - even having downloaded the video. Check the car chases - or the video of Franklin walking - its a sh*tty framerate. Download and see the footage behind the plane over the dam - are you saying thats a smooth 30fps ?...your f*cking blind if you think so.The truth will out, much like Eurogamers analysis of the IV fps rate - sub 20 microstutters were the norm on the PS3/360.

Again, ad hominem attacks are the norm on this forum, uneducated children aplenty who can't comprehend and rebuke criticism.

V is not all it could of been. IV was a game changer - I'll grant it that. V is just IV+bullsh*t activities without sorting out the fundamental problems of IV - namely technical ones. A smooth 30fps at the end of a console generation should of been a target.

- BTW - join date has everything to do with it if Lex missed most of my 300 plus posts on the subject. Christ. FB is a RDF groupie like many others. Happy with a 3.5 sq mile city - good luck to ya. Its half the size of LAX - that does not compute. Not a metropolis - more a village size city.

Obviously, because when you see a video you can check the fps of the game through the video with FRAPS.

Good luck playing all your other massively sized and detailed open world crime games with perfect frame rates. Must be hundreds of those. Good luck with that.

Yeah - its call the Crew on PS4 - far larger than GTAV - I can assure you on that.

And true crime had a city 50 times larger than V on the PS2.

Firstly, if you think that's better than GTA V when it comes to gameplay and attention to detail then you are quite delusional. That game probably doesn't even have 10 percent of the development budget GTA V has and will not be able to compete with it at all.

Secondly, it's on PS4 and it's an arcady racegame and not a crimegame so your comparison sucks. That game couldn't even compete with the next Forza. It's crap.

Thirdly, good luck playing True Crime LA. Must be much better than V. Go play that in stead. Nobody wants to read your sh*tty posts anymore.

Your point is a hilarious comparison to some arcady racegame on PS4 and a sh*tty GTA rip off on PS2, both of which suck, both of which I have explained why. How am I supposed to debate that?

It's about time this thread was closed, luckily while it's doing no harm to anyone on the forum, it's just fuelling certain people's sad desires to seek attention on a discussion forum.

The game is looking great, the best of this generation compared to what other games looked like in the lead up to their launch.

It will probably launch on PC and PS4/Xbox One next year. Therefore snobs can get a few more frames, I will likely get the game too for modding reasons.

As for immersion, LA Noire was annoying with how long you had to drive to one side of the city. GTA V has got a massive map, a massive city considering the way it's laid out, did people consider how big it is? Apparently not, driving around all the streets will take a lot longer than just a 30 second drive on a highway, there is lots of bends, different landscapes, lots of roads.

It's not a grid iron pattern that you see in GTA IV. You can't just blast down a road in this game, like for instance going down Denver Avenue in GTA IV to get to a mission quickly. There is a lot more turns involved in a route now.

Please check some of the tennis court comparisons in other threads to give you a sense of scale, of how a 46 pixel tennis court on a map, looks in an area of approximately 1,000,000 pixels, then consider that 46 pixels represents a tennis court (260 meters square) then you've got the other 999,954 pixels of the city to explore.

It's gonna be the greatest game of all time. Period

Dude, while I agree it would have been ideal for the framerate to be a nice consistent 30fps, I think you're expectations for this to be a reality were probably a little naive! These consoles are packing some seriously dated specs and whilst I expect the game to run a little better than IV, the limitations of the hardware are always going to be a limiting factor when it comes to frame rate no matter how much Rockstar optimizes the game.

GTA IV was perfectly playable when it was released in 2008... and it is still perfectly playable now! GTA V will be perfectly playable, too.

If you want buttery smooth 30+fps, wait for the inevitable PC version.

As for your complaints regarding the size of the cities etc, I don't see how you can judge this considering none of us have played the game yet. I concede that we have a good idea of the general size of the city/map - and whilst I'm sure we'd all like Los Santos to be a 1:1 representation of the scale of LA - the reality is it would probably take Rockstar another 5+ years to develop a version of LA with as much detail as Liberty City has at a 1:1 scale... would you want to wait another 5+ years?!

GKP, Its over, I thought you were better than this, that if you actually saw the evidence you would stop wining but I was wrong you would never stop.

There were a bunch of people attacking the size along with you and they made some good arguments but after they saw more info about the city they admitted they were wrong but

now you still attack the game.

It clearly shows youre not man enough to admit you lost . I no longer care for your opinion as youre just clearly a troll.

A 1:1 scale would be awful, regardless of how detailed it would be, the commuting is a city that size would get so boring. A 20 minute drive from the ghetto to the beach would be fine in real life, but in a game it would feel like forever.

The image below has an accurate land area for Liberty City. Los Santos is sized at .75 mile horizontal grid spacing which is what I have it. GTAaLEX117's last estimate came to the same size - http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...entry1062758089 Magic_Al's estimate for Los Santos is smaller than that.

user posted image

Mine is about 10.6% smaller, which means, if you zoomed down to ground level, your cars would be 2m wide instead of 1.8m wide. It would also mean the widest top-down view of the character-switching video would have a resolution of 1.12 meters per pixel instead of 1m per pixel, and the tightest view of that sequence would be at 11.2 pixels per meter. I think it's less random than that.

My system has the benefit, I think, of not relying on the size of details like road width in the low-resolution blueprint. All I have to do is line the streets up with the screenshots after knowing the scale of the objects in the screenshots.

Dale - virgin ?...really ?...come up with a decent rebuke to my earlier posts - and by that gtxpert I mean points several hundred posts back .

A quick overview of why a 3.5 sq mile representation of LA is not a good outcome.

1) - short city police chases

2) over familiarity within a few weeks of gameplay. With half the city blocks of IV you will know every corner, every district in no time.

3) A district or suburb being 4 or 5 square blocks is a f*cking abomination - why so tight over city blocks R* ? - technical constraint ?

3) The jarring effect of driving through the 'hood' , downtown and hollywood all within 90 odd seconds. What the f*ck is that ? No immersion - a miniature golf course sized city.

Other awful aspects of this game - slow jet speeds - check the MP footage - whats that...120 mph maybe ?...is this SA ? - As I mentioned , poor framerate - poor driving physics , amusing damage control by R* ...a tuned car eh ?..hugely unrealistic jarring handling . Look at the 2nd trailer - the infamous reverse 180 by the Aston Martin. It gets worse everytime I see more of this game.

Trolling ?...not over 2 f*cking years !

As magic als map shows - how you expect to shoehorn in all of LC's landmass into LS is a mystery people. Its 2.8-3 sq miles tops , Absolute tops...3 sq miles ! - stingy motherf*ckers you are R* !!!!

Oh come on... imagine a 1:1 version of the city where you could enter every building... it would be amazing! But yeah I guess after a while you would want to use Jets all the time to get to mission destinations quicker!!
