Map Size Thread

Some of these scale pics are laughable.  It's hilarious that people eat this stuff right up.  Anything they can do to prove that LS is bigger than LC.  It just simply is not the case, LC is larger than LS.  I'll do whatever everyone else is doing and make a map and cut the water out of LC (Because it's water isn't a playable area and doesn't count! Right guys?!) and skew it to fit the agenda that LC is bigger than LS.

I think the amount of people claiming that LC was bigger had been drastically reduced after the last wave of comparisons hit this thread. Nevertheless, I will re-post mine since I can't find any real problem with it and is based on more than just eyeballing:

user posted image

I'll also leave it to you do decide if LC should be even smaller than that considering that the LC highway is much smaller than the LS highway with the extra large median and shoulders.

This size city plus a interactive country side with under water exploration not just water filler. This will be massive I am happy

^That is just mind-blowing. wow.gif

I'm prepared to hold my head up high and admit that I might have been wrong all along about Los Santos not looking big. Los Santos actually does look big indeed.

icon14.gif

If you weren't already on my respect list, I would've added you just for this.

Finally, after all the crap that Official General and his cronies put us through with this stupid thread - Rockstar ALWAYS deliver.

Official General is ten times the man that GKP isn't even close too. At least spoke his mind in a very mature way, and considered the whole "RDF" thing to be a joke and treated it as such, the latter's an annoying c*nt with extreme anger management and self importance issues.

Thanks guys icon14.gif

I'm very pleased I was wrong, and believe me, I'm very happy to celebrate this with y'all cool.gif

@ brwhizz

Well if you remembered my comments, I always stressed that initially, Los Santos looked a small and not as big I expected due to the recent screenshots available - that was the truth about how I saw it at the time. And I did not actually say that LS was small as a fact, it was just due to what I could see available to me. And I always stated, that I hoped I was wrong and if I was wrong, I shall graciously accept defeat and admit to it, which I have done.

+ respect icon14.gif

@chocotaco, every other post you post a picture of me flexing that you downloaded to your computer to fap to... and your other posts are obsessing about one of the many times bakerach made you look stupid. i dont know why you are so obsessed with bake and i... many members here at gtaforums have made you look like a complete idiot.

im still puzzled as to why you are terrified to take my bet that los santos is larger than the landmass of all of gta iv... you show los santos at about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of liberty city in your comparisons. either you were dumb enough to think you were correct in your size of los santos or you were trolling.

your estimates were waaaaaaaaay off and the map you have in your signature was made after seeing numerous trailers and hundreds of screenshots... as i said earlier, are you wanting a gold star for your finger painting?

im sticking to my estimate of los santos being 10 to 20% larger than the landmass of gta iv. care to give us your estimate?

@glitzy and all the other people posting to just complain, as has been said at least 100x in this thread post something relevant or go post somewhere else please.

This dude is dishing out some serious truth.

i know your being sarcastic so this isnt directed at you, but coming here has made me realize what is wrong with people today. everybody acts so entitled. they gave us a city bigger than the entirety of the last game they gave us and its just a small part of this map. they brought back all the features fans asked for and then some. they gave us so much this time around, more than they ever have which is saying something for one of the best selling game franchises of all time. hundreds of people worked their asses off for the last 5 years on this game and all anyone does is bitch about it. this game will win multiple game of the year awards, it will probably be the game of this generation, and will likely recieve more 10/10s than any other game ever. for those of you that continue to bitch, do you honestly think any of us here believe that you wont be sitting on the couch on the 17th playing the game you just forked over your hard earned money (aka mommy and daddys money) for with a rock hard boner just like the rest of us? suicidal.gif

I completely agree. At this point if you're not satisfied DON'T BOTHER buying the game let alone spending your time on a forum dedicated to the game, just stop.

Scale of blueprint determined: the grid units are 1km.

The overhead zoom view over Michael's house provides a good scale reference for the blueprint map. In one overhead shot, cars on the highway running past his house are 18 pixels wide, suggesting that image has a scale of 10 pixels = 1 meter, because 1.8m is a typical passenger vehicle width.

By scaling that picture of Michael's house to 10%, its scale becomes 1 pixel = 1 meter. If the blueprint is sized so the grid lines are 1000 pixels (1000 meters) apart, Michaels house fits perfectly in its spot.

Excellent work. Thank you. So, can we get an accurate side by side map comparison now? How wide and long is LC, and how wide and long is LS? Landmass only and total footprint please.

That town that is supposedly Malibu looks way to much like a barren town compared to the lushness of the real Malibu.

Nietzsche's God

If the size of Los Santos is only 1.25 times bigger than Liberty City, you still have to take in the consideration that there may be more buildings that you can enter into (skysrapers and others). I be ok with the size being the same or bigger since we all know that there will be an additional suburbs, small towns and trailer parks surrounding it, or further spread out.

Pretty sure that town they showed called Paleto isn't based on Malibu. You can see on the Collector's edition map that Malibu is much further south than Mount Chiliad, and Paleto looks to be just north of Chiliad.

Correct me if Im wrong but dont tennis courts usually have set dimensions? Could be possible to get a scale and size of the city with these tenis courts, now that we know where they are at in the map.

The court is a rectangle, 78 feet (23.77 m) long and for singles matches, 27 feet (8.23 m) wide. For doubles matches, the court is 36 feet (10.97 m) wide."

So does that make Los Santos bigger or smaller than IV landmass?

All these endless comparisons.. I still think we can't accurately compare the two until we actually get to play the game September 17th. For me, from what I've seen, it feels much bigger than GTA IV was, which is enough to send my jaw into orbit.

Can you put them side by side without SA and RDR, so we can see the true scale.

I believe Los Santos is a tad bigger than that. This is what I mean:

I compared them with the runways by putting cars on them:

user posted image

The SA military runway holds 11 police cars on one lane, meaning 22 fit onto the whole runway. In LS, 10/11 cars fit on one lane.

You can also verify this by looking at the Santa Monica Pier.

Aren't 4 of those on the grass?

I'm not sure what we can get from this, if there was a top down picture of the runway without thick white lines drawn down the sides it might be easier.

I think the best bet is to compare car sizes from the top down view and top down textured map of S.A.

Yes, they are. I compared the whole runway (including the green area) from the SA overview map.

You mean a top down view of the V runway? We don't need it, as you can see one police car in V fits between two green dots, so 10/11 would fit onto one lane, therefore 20/22 would fit onto the whole runway.

I mean how the width of the runway relates to the width of the runway on the map, the white lines down the side make it a bit vague.

Yeah assuming it's real life scale, looks like it could be. That might be a good thing to base it off if it's correct.

As for those white lines, look at the runway in V, you can see how the center portion is black and the edges are white. I think that's what's represented on the map.
