mmh...denialism can be a strong force. I have a job in london (white collar) , my own flat and look after myself thanks very much. I can see when a city is smaller or larger than LS. Its clearly smaller. The CBD to coast distance is a 30 second ( fast) drive.

 

Why those who DONT share this pov keep responding is telling. Why the need to defend the indefensible people ?

The city ( in square blocks) is small. In distance its small..No East LA or Compton / Watts. How are surburbs that are just a few blocks large enough for you ?

 

Easily pleased gamers are the largest demographic. Low standards in life are the default setting for a lot of people. Your entitled to such low expectations, as am I to mine. Try and rebuke criticism with actual discussion instead of just acting like your a kid.

Why do you insist on comparing it based on square blocks? Just look at the blueprint, the variation in size is pretty incredibly.

Compare it by street width, since we actually know how they look in-game.

Most of us gamers here know the facts and the estimated size and such and guess what? We are content with it because we know the game will feel massive and it will be great. You can Bitch and Moan all you want but it is only going to make you look like a fool. Why dont you just accept the game for what it is and what they have created?

 

If you know whats best for everyone and want just some city simulator why dont you go out and create your own gaming company? All these remarks and bashing one another is just plain childish. Personally I think you all are complaining just for the sake of complaining.

You say it is your view. That is perfectly acceptable. But then, you say that the city is small as if it were a fact. You can't pass your judgements as facts. We are all looking at the same evidence. Some people are pleased and others aren't. There's no reason for you or anyone else to continue this debate. Each side has got their opinions out.

 

You say others act as children yet you label these people that disagree with you. You also claim that they're easily pleased and should expect more just because in you're eyes R* hasn't done enough.

 

What would you like for mature discussion? People have given their opinions and calculations yet you brushed them aside and told people to use their eyes. So far all you've shown is that you want people to agree with you and provide evidence in your favor. If you're not willing to listen to other's observations, why continue arguing?

JFP - around a 100 pages back the consensus (pre map) was that the city was easily larger than IV. That was what R* told us...to me,..with LA being larger than NYC 'large' would of meant a decent sprawl with a large number of square blocks.

 

One can extrapolate a hell of a lot from screenshots. The city is small ie..only around 2 miles across. 2 miles is not large in the same way that a 5ft 3 man is not tall. Its a subjective thing for sure, but look at it this way...at a sedate 60mph, you will cross the city in a very short time, at high speed...you get the picture.

 

 

The general standards of posts on this thread was high when comparisions to IV pics, decent debate and no personal attacks was the norm.

 

Again - a city in which individual districts are just 2 or 3 blocks in size is large ? really ! ????

This is what I find funny about your posts, you use numbers that you come up with in your mind, and that are based on...well nothing other than bad eyeballing. In the time you were missing, many users here calculated the size of the map using various landmarks and pretty much all of them were around 3-4 sq miles.

Depends where. The city is asymmetrical, and across from N to S is a lot larger than across from W to E.

Either way, 3-4 sq miles is not small, not by a long shot.

Again, we all know just about how big the city will be. You and several others see it as small. Many others are perfectly fine with it.

 

Physical size is different from perceived size. Almosy every game is tiny if you really think about it. Mmo's, the TDU series, and the True Crime series are really the only games with huge maps that I can think of. For everything else, devs go for the feel of a larger environment while designing a far more condensed map. For the the most part, it works. SA was about the size of just my neighborhood yet it felt huge. We can't just look at raw numbers because they don't tell the whole story of how the game will feel.

 

For example, what you and some others asked for is at least about 6 sq. Mi. That's still tiny when you look at just the numbers. Yet you say you would be happy with it. How can you say how much it'd really change the feel of the city?

Wait what? If there's no Compton AND Watts then that's just ridiculous. I mean I get it, less focus on gang culture in this game but if you take out 4 of the most important areas of South Central and say you are trying to represent LA, you have failed. Carson, Compton, Long Beach, Watts... absent from a city based on Los Angeles. Add that on with the absence of any type of East LA suburb and wow.. I get that they may have done the other areas perfectly but that's just lame how they left so many areas out. In that case what ghetto area did they include?

im still betting that the horse track is based on santa anita park and that is a one mile track. if that track is roughly a half mile in length then los santos is much much larger than all of gta iv. we will see when the game comes out. unlike gkp and the boys i dont like to throw around numbers i blindly pulled out of my ass
