I haven't read this thread since it had 198 pages. So I was wondering, what is the consensus now?

The GTA V blueprint map we have seen so far makes Los Santos appear slightly smaller than Liberty City + Alderney in GTA IV.

 

From what I can see, a lot of people are not pleased about this.

Only slightly smaller than Liberty City + Alderney? Well, that might be dissapointing for some but not me.

I do think Dan Houser used the word sprawl somewhere, in the context of something like "the sprawling City of Los Santos", I couldn't find the original source of that though. But never did he say "replicate the sense of sprawl of LA". You are making sh*t up.

Wait, did we reach that consensus? Some comparisons show it's slightly smaller, some show it's slightly bigger and some show that it's equal. Everyone should believe whatever they want, but the maps are very close in terms of landmass size, that's for sure.

Well let's be real, you can't blame them if the map is now available for all to see and that is what the map indicates. Yeah, we maybe be wrong (and I hope we are), but the blue map reveal has definitely swayed opinion of LS city size in favor of those who think it's a bit small.

 

I'm even quite annoyed that blue map got revealed. I would have preferred waiting to see what the final actual map looked like, and hoped it would make LS appear much bigger than it is in the screenshots.

It's screenshots like this that allow me to retain some hope. It may be that everything - roads, pavements, blocks, buildings etc - have been scaled up from IV. That screen gives this some credibility. Otherwise yes, it is undoubtedly smaller than LC.

I tend to agree with this post. I am being optimistic that the map is zoomed out and not scalled properly but I understand Officials concerns also. My point is RDF cannot get upset with people who are holding R* to a standard that they have set up for themselves. They made a statement this late in development and people have every right to hold them to those expectations
