Map Size Thread

sorry if already posted, but is it possible that this unknown area is more of Los Santos? If it were about the size of the yellow area I circled, that would be a significant portion of the city that's missing from the Blueprint map revealed earlier.

The red circle basically shows how much extra land in terms of city streets there'd be. I assume these would be "suburban sprawl" type zoning as well judging by the northeast location potentially bordered by mountains.

The reason I am suggesting this is because the city doesn't definitively end before the blocked out portion begins, so it's safe for assume there's SOME extra city that is unseen. How much is there, I have no clue, so my yellow outline is just blind optimism.

Here's what the border between known and unknown area looks like:

It's good that you took your time to search for it. Search a bit more, and you'll end up reading exactly what I said: "replicate the sense of sprawl".

ED: Here you go!

It's funny how contradictory that stament is with the one I quoted, about not replicating LA. I'm pretty baffled by that. Since it would be so contradictory to make such a statement considering my quote, I assumed he did not make it. But I was wrong.

But still, if you read it well, he says that he wanted to give us the sense of the sprawl, which we will have. I'm confused how he could state 'if not' replicate it, seeing how giant real life LA is. I'm also suprised how anyone could expect that it'd be replicated.

So out of curiosity, as my question was not answered before, if the city size is unacceptable to some people then what are you going to do about it?

I don't mean that as a challenge, but when you say something is unacceptable in the game, it would make logical sense to either not buy the game or act upon your feelings. So what's the deal?

They will probably write a dumb f*cking email and send it to what they think is an actual account of someone at rockstar. Then theyll get an automated response and post it on the forum like a big retard. Then they will still buy the game and and bitch about how small they think it is.

If going with the 'kinda sorta emulates the actual city of LA', then the yellow area would be where the observatory, amphitheater, and Vinewood sign would be. Some of it may be suburban Hollywood Hills type area, but not all of it. You can see it many of the screens already released, like the ones below.

A re-imagined SoCal...

I'm sorry if Icome across rude, but shut the actual f*ck up with that "re-imagined" bull faeces already.

Dan f*cking Houser said that they wanted to "replicate the sense of sprawl of LA". Where the flying f*ck are the big suburbs that contribute HEAVILY to that very sense of sprawl.

Yes, the essence of LA has probably been captured. But essence alone doesn't complete a meal.

We’ve made something that sort of is Los Angeles and sort of isn’t. And that’s deliberate, that it isn’t an exact replication of it.

This is a quote where Houser used the word replicate, and he used it as a denial.

I do think Dan Houser used the word sprawl somewhere, in the context of something like "the sprawling City of Los Santos", I couldn't find the original source of that though. But never did he say "replicate the sense of sprawl of LA". You are making sh*t up.

And Los Santos does sprawl. So he did not lie.

It's good that you took your time to search for it. Search a bit more, and you'll end up reading exactly what I said: "replicate the sense of sprawl".

A few things:

First, the word RDF is lame and childish. What are you? Anti Rockstar Force? Don't be a big silly child.

Second,

We’ve made something that sort of is Los Angeles and sort of isn’t. And that’s deliberate, that it isn’t an exact replication of it.

This is a quote that says the opposite of the thing just posted, which makes me think that Dan Houser might have been misquoted, or was just being a complete idiot. lol. Seeing Houser was also wrong about not being able to buy property in V, it might be better if we take what he says with a grain of salt from now on (and especially if it is in GI).

So have you mathematical wizards figured out how big Los Santos is yet?

It will probably take 15 minutes to drive around LS

If you follow all the traffic laws ? tounge.gif

Going of the race times from that map of Liberty City, 15 minutes seems reasonable.

I see. It's been a long time since I last played stock IV. But does it really take 6 minutes to drive along that red line if you try to drive at the best possible speed(in an average car say, a Feroci)?

It varies. No one will know until the game is out.

I am satisified with the apparent size of LS, but still disappointed.

I will say again - there are far too many new members who haven't been through this before. Quite literally, do not trust the magazines until the game has been out for 3 months +. They exaggerate and distort.

"peds have their own lives" - SA - false.

"the city is more vertical/lots of interiors" - IV - false.

I don't know why people are surprised.

You sure? It seems like most of your posts involve one-upping people who don't agree with you and saying they're part of "RDF".

15 minutes to circle the city centre on the highways? That doesn't seem too bad to me, I could do a circuit of LC in a similar time.

Look, I work hard, usually getting home at 7:00 o'clock at night and I have busy weekends so my gaming hours are limited. The last thing I want to do when I do get a few hours to spend gaming is to spend hours driving through blocks upon blocks of copy paste buildings trying to get to the next mission. Making the city too big will make navigation oppressive and ruin the fun factor for me.

It's a problem I sometimes have when playing Skyrim, I turn my console on and sit down for a bit of dungeon raiding action, but all I end up really doing is running from one city to another and not much else before it's time to hit the sack.

People who say they want the map to be so much bigger have too much time on their hands. I say keep the city a similar size to LC but pack it full of much more interesting characters and places.

The GTA V blueprint map we have seen so far makes Los Santos appear slightly smaller than Liberty City + Alderney in GTA IV.

From what I can see, a lot of people are not pleased about this.

Which would actually make Los Santos larger than Liberty City itself, since Alderney is beyond the city limits.

Wait, did we reach that consensus? Some comparisons show it's slightly smaller, some show it's slightly bigger and some show that it's equal. Everyone should believe whatever they want, but the maps are very close in terms of landmass size, that's for sure.
