Does it mean the real scale is even bigger than this, with 1 grid unit = 1.6 km = 1 mile??

I tried scaling the blueprint against GTASA making the concrete riverbed east of Grove Street the same width as the Los Santos river in V, and this made me think the grid lines are 0.5 miles apart.

I agree with RockStarNiko that the grid lines are 3/4 mile - http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...entry1062549101

There are 15 dots per grid. Every 5 dots would be 1/4 mile.

1st looks most accurate.

in real life the empire state building is taller right?

then again everything else is a little bigger in V so maybe the buildings are too

That's the Chrysler Building. It's about the same size as the Bank Tower.

Really good screen here. Forgot it even existed...

It really does give you a sense of scale.

One thing I've noticed, the sidewalks look look very big in LS. I mean, really big. Just compare them to the ones in Liberty City.

I've noticed this as well. The general width of pavements & roads look really big & of course the highways are big as well. I guess it's like that in LA?

These shots show some more

Yeah, I'm not sure where he got that logic from...

^Even the official rockstar site has it in the middle.

EDIT:

and yes it absolutely is possible to see the middle of a poster map if it's rolled in from the outside.

not when its rolled multiple times like it is suicidal.gif

This is how the map is rolled up, if you don't understand that the revealed portion of LS is around the center, you clearly have a deficiency in spatial perception.

Then the jokes on you... Ignore the fact that the city image on the map is photoshopped. The image is on the outer side of a rolled-up map. It's about 1 pi radians through a revolution (ie, a half circle) of a map that consists of 2 complete revolutions. 2 revolutions = 4 pi radians (2 pi = 360* ie 1 revolution). That means the image is just 1/4 of the way up from the bottom of the map, NOT in the middle.

Moral of the story: don't go around calling people idiots...

true.

Ok guys, being the diligent forum member that I am biggrin.gif , I decided to look further into the scale I had previously got for LS and try to find holes in my approach. The good news is I found reasonable doubt to COMPLETELY trust this scale.

My entire scale was based on the premise that LS Bank Tower was a 1:1 model, just as the Rotterdam Tower was. But when messing around with the model its clear to see that LS is much different than LC in terms of building scales.

In LC every building for the most part is 1:1, the chrysler building, metlife, and so on. But when recreating the LS skyline with the real life counter parts I found major discrepancies in the sizes of the buildings.

First off, the Westin Bonaventure building is MUCH larger in game than in real life.

Second, the California plaza buildings are not the right size compared to themselves. In LA one plaze building is MUCH smaller than the other, while in LS it is only about 10% smaller. The rest of the skyline seems to follow this trend of being unlike to size of the LA counterparts.

user posted image

What does this mean??

Well since we now know that the rest of the buildings in LS are being exhagerated in size and not in fact 1:1 models of the real life counterparts, using the LS Bank Tower and comparing it to the Rotterdam tower is not as reliable as I once thought.

However, alot of the other buildings throughout LS are in fact 1:1 when compared to the LS bank tower. Which leads me to believe that the buildings in question were bulked up to give the LS skyline more of an "Awe" effect. If any building were to be 1:1 I would bet my money that the LS tower would be the one.

But to further illustrate the scale of LS I decided to see what the MAXIMUM size of LS could be. I think it is safe to say that the Bank tower is NOT bigger than the Rotterdam tower. Knowing that, I used the rotterdam tower in place of the bank tower and placed it on the blueprint appropriately.

user posted image

With this we can establish that the map will in no way possible be this size or larger. Here is the scale obtained.

user posted image

user posted image

I am still fairly certain that the original scale I obtained is correct. The Bank Tower is more likely than not 1:1.

user posted image

But to be completely objective I cannot rule out the possibility that it is not 1:1.

Nice job....i think it´s 85% accurate to real size..... cookie.gificon14.gif

No. Did you not read the post. I said its impossible for the city to be that size since we know the bank tower is smaller than the Rotterdam tower. That's a very inaccurate scale

the other comparison was closer

This size was made using the Rotterdam tower in place of the bank tower. There is no way that the bank tower is the same size as the Rotterdam tower therefore this scale is used to show how LS will in now way be this big

What scale do you think is the most accurate?

I think the grid lines are 3/4 mile apart.

That would make Los Santos this size:

This is the most realistic comparison. The sizes of streets and bridges match up and scale just seems to be right on. People just don't want to admit that LS is going to be smaller than LC so they start grasping at straws and make new LC vs. LS comparisons by making LC tiny and throwing it on-top of LS and calling it the biggest city ever made in GTA. Simply pathetic.

you should flip LC itd fit better

also theres a typo "LS River = 2x Algonquin Bridge"

I see how that can be confusing, but it's not a typo-- the actual river itself (the dark line in the middle of the canal) is similar in width to one side of the Algonquin Bridge. The entire canal looks to be even wider than the bridge.
