Can we call soccer "Soccer" and Rugby "Rugby"

Recommended Posts

I get really confused, can we call them by what they are?

I know people will complain "OHMYGOD U USE UR F33T IT"S FOOTBALL"

But I just want to be able to scroll through and know what ill be reading, nothing to do with what I think is football, Which is AFL.

Are you asking as to whether people in real life should refer to those respective sports by those respective names, or whether we should rename topics on the forum to what you've suggested?

Either way, I find that these "debates" which arise about whether we should call soccer soccer, or footy footy, are completely pointless and only provide energy to butthurt assholes who feel like their favourite sport's place within society is "threatened"; primary example being the closet-racist buffoons who kick up a fuss about people calling soccer "football" when it really isn't even such a big f*cking deal in the first place. It's a name. In conversation, if another person is confused as to which sport the other person is referring to when they say "football", for example, simply asking them as to which sport they are talking about alleviates the issue instantly. Basic human communication.

For us Australians, yes, perhaps, it might be confusing when we see "The Footy Desk" and see that it's about association football/soccer, but don't forget that this is an international forum, and the number of people who refer to football as "football" instead of "soccer" far outnumber those who refer to it vice versa, so I don't think topic names will be changing any time soon. wink.gif

I just want the topics to change to there appropriate name to make people understand.

are we really going to argue about this?

look it's pretty simple. the context tells you which sport is being talked about. that's all you need to know.

American football is football in the NFL thread.

European "soccer" is football in the official Footy thread.

European rugby is pretty much called rugby by everyone.

is it hard to figure out or something?
