You will never find one. A Beta is basically a Work In Progress of a game, it never gets released as the final version 'writes over' the beta. You can find Modifications for PC made by Fans which are meant to be a recreation

If you were looking for a REAL beta, and not just a mod, I fear you're not going to find it anywhere. That is for sure. Well, at least not in the mass-accessed Internet.

Never say never, Remember a Sonic 2 beta was found on some random website back in the day. And if Resident Evil 1.5 can finally see the light of day i wouldn't be so negative on chances of a beta version of GTAIII getting leaked

I'm 95% sure it's out there in the wild somewhere, and in todays world of easily copied media and flash drives etc that only more copies are going to get spread around until someone decides to finally leak it

But it's Rockstar and man. This game is 10 yo.

http://swiatgta.pl/download-3-beta/

Here you can download some original beta files (not whole game, but not a mod too).

Yeah, i've been following alot of gta III beta stuff. thanks for the contributions with the beta files

GTAIII might be 10+ years old, but resident evil 1.5 (the cancelled version of RE2) is almost 20 years old and that found its way onto the web a month or two ago, I'm not saying for sure that it WILL leak for sure, but there has to be a few copies out there (especially with a series like GTA). Magazines/websites/journalists/ex employee's etc

Alot of the times it's just a waiting game for it to fall into the hands of someone who will leak it (even if there is money involved)

Rockstar - it's impossible. It's not Rockstar's style. If the game was still sold under the DMA label it will be another situation. DMA workers are a lot wiser, but sometimes lazy to test biggrin.gif

I'm on my way to make interview with Mike Dailly. So stay tuned.

Yeah i wanted to know if there was a beta because ive been reading lots of forums and topics about it and

people just end it with no proof and everyone getting pissed off at each other which didnt make sense so

i was seeing if someone has resurrected the beta as a mod and actually finished it so everyone can enjoy it. biggrin.gif

Well, all we could offer you were the files Filip454 posted here.

So I hope you will enjoy the game with what you have.

Although I personally didn't understand why would someone want so much to play a beta... I figured that everyone has his ample motive.

A beta will only exist if a programmer (or someone with access to the source code) backed up the game before modifying it. If this was never done, or was deleted once better working code was added, then the beta is long gone.

Additionally, code which is commented is not compiled, thus will not even show up in a binary (e.g. EXE/ELF) file.

The only way disabled code will appear in a binary or finished product is usually through an "if" statement (assuming C code). For example, if the code contains "foo=bar" but this line is commented or removed, the "if foo=bar" code waiting for foo to equal bar is still compiled and is simply waiting for foo to become equal to bar, and will never be executed because there is no code to say that foo equals bar. This is similar to how the Hot Coffee scene was found in San Andreas. You have to comment unused code as well for it to be removed from the compiled program or else it will still show up but remain unused (and unused program code = bloat).

The 1997 alpha version of Half-Life was leaked a couple months ago so there might be someone who owned Beta GTA III.

Dude, just try to wait for a couple of months. You'll be able to see, to feel the best beta / pre-alpha experience ever.

And yup, I'm talking about experience, not about a "mod", "retextured building", "retextured vehicle". I'm talking about a whole experience. ;-)

There's a reason why I put that song in there.

No, there will be no official beta, at least for next couple of years.

But this song is wrong. What reason?

There will never be official beta - lol.

Unofficial even more.

I think the reason doesn't matter

I doubt a proper beta version exists, aside from the demo version shown at E3 in 2001.

And even the Demo version probably does not exist anymore. dontgetit.gif
