i hate big smoke and ryder like trator for gorve 4 life

I hate that ryder was so badass, a real gangster, the most iconic character in the game and then they turn him into an antagonist.

Dancing is the worst, especially for those gfs living in the countryside, driving to the club is a chore, you can't end the dance prematurely even if you already hit the "pass" score, and there's only 1 bloody song! Every other dating activity is far less time-consuming/dull.

Homies can't ride on the back of a pickup truck -- I know there's probably some engine limitation for having more than 3 passengers, given how the bus works, but I'd love to see two homies courching at the back of a pickup like Ryder did in Catalyst.

Alley Oop. Absolutely the worst thing in any GTA game ever. Been sitting here for 45 minutes and nothing. Either 100% damage or 0% location. The mission is pure luck and I have hated it since day one. God knows how speedrunners handle it.

Nearly an hour of trying and randomly I hit it, land with damage and off centre. The result? 100%, gold medal. Totally broken nonsense.

Are you on PC? This mission is broken if you play with more than 30 FPS.

Okay, fine. Let's hope this rant sticks out in 36 pages worth of content.

1. The gunplay in San Andreas sucked, and is probably the worst out of any 3D/HD era GTA. The weapons didn't feel reactive, the enemies barely reacted to your hits (they get stunned most of the time, but they don't feel fun to shoot at all), there was one death animation in the whole game for almost every death which was stupid and off brand for a game that was supposed to be expansive in content like how GTA 5 was and GTA 6 will be.

Also, the SPAZ & Minigun are both cool weapons. The M4 and AK-47, here and there. But everything else felt annoying to use, had a broken bullet spread, dumb reload system, and the animations looked bad. If you got your aiming skills up the sub machine guns were okay, but you barely get any ammo early on without going out of your way to grind for it.

Oh, and the weapon sounds sucked. But that's here and there.

In GTA 3 & VC, it was a bit too easy but it felt responsive. VCS & LCS, they fixed this issue and it felt a bit more responsive. HD era got everything right gunplay wise. San Andreas missed the mark.

2. The first mission was horrible. It's iconic at first but everytime I replay the game I remember I have to play through 5 minutes of just following sweet around slowly and trying my hardest not to bike faster than him. It would've been so much better if they got the mechanic from Cut Throat Business where the go kart OG Loc rides is always faster than yours. I genuinely would have a lot more playthroughs on this game if it weren't to this.

Additionally, the game has some other criminally bad missions. Amphibious Assault (it's a fun mission but the grinding lung capacity part is a pacekiller), Life's a Beach, Air Raid (on PS2 it's hard, on PC it's time-wastingly easy), Key to her Heart (f*ck this one), Photo Opportunity, Ryder (you spend two minutes watching a cutscene about using restaurants.. a mechanic you never touch again), while half of the San Fierro missions were boring drive here and drive there missions.

Surprisingly... I like Supply Lines? I also would've included The Da Nang Thang here, but I don't blame Rockstar for messing this one up. There was a glitch on some computers where if you jumped on crates you'd die, but this only happened if you had a high FPS. it's a mission that only sucks if you're using a more modern PC and don't have the frame limiter on. I do hate the run and gun segment at the start though.

3. The story gets a lot of praise, but the pacing near the Fierro & Venturas act of the game becomes inconsistent, the game introduces too many characters & storylines too quickly and uses them to make the heist look a lot more convenient (Really? The Truth introduces us to some guys who help us get into the casino, then we don't have to betray those guys because Johnny had a heart attack and died?), but the real crime is where the storyline goes after Home Coming. They completely threw away CJ, Kendl and Sweet's character arcs, threw away the game's themes, and somehow tried to flip this into a "yeah he's a gangster but he's not dealing drugs at least" kind of thing which doesn't really say anything.

I already gave out my opinion on this in another thread:

Quote

I think End of the Line is a good finale, don't get me wrong, but Rockstar diluted the game's themes down in its last act horribly. I'm very sure a lot of people can see how the late game was very rushed in San Andreas but the finale doesn't stick with me anymore- CJ spends the entire game working his way out of the hood and although he's still a career criminal working towards redemption, he goes back to the hood for his older brother, Sweet. CJ spends a few missions gangbanging, takes over most of LS, after spending the entire game & the 5 years before it started running away from this life, but the hood inevitably finds him which would be good out of context but the game has a grand happy ending where CJ & everybody are celebrating, Sweet is untouched, Kendl who lectures CJ all the time about gangbanging is enjoying the life, and CJ's character and the game's themes reach no conclusion when they spent the entire game doing so. So this makes me ask, what was the point? If Sweet had died in the missions running up to the finale, it would have worked well, but the game spends dozens of hours of playtime bringing you to build your own (almost legitimate) empire and move away from the hood and then just throws you there to impress your older brother who is a massive asshole and you get nothing out of it.

I feel like you can summarize this whole game up with this chart made by English Ben. Starts off brilliant, drops off a bit, then near the end it just becomes dumb.

4. Ok, now time to run through some nitpicks:
- CJ spending 10 seconds changing his clothes every time you wanted to try something out

- The NPCs drive like wild animals in Venturas

- Sweet

- The vehicles in the desert suck.

- The SWIMMING. The frame limiter makes it a little forgivable but if you fall in the water you might as well just reload the game.

- All of Sweet's missions near the end of the game

- The fact you don't get a boat garage in the game and a house in Bayside. It's a nitpick section for a reason, but it would've been awesome to have a save there.

- The fact 12 year old me spent hours grinding gang territories in the start of the game only for them to vanish quickly

- The fact there were almost zero houses you can burgle in Fierro or Venturas. It would've been fun to do burglaries across the state.

- "Our hand is under attack" Okay. I'm in Venturas right now.

- The fighting system was just as bad as the gunplay. Once an enemy falls to the ground he's as good as dead.

- Sweet
- I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk

- Also Sweet

I hate traffic glitches when player plays many hours on same save file - then traffic cars make quick 180 degrees turn during driving... and then try to turn side to drive normally again

Also some cars can spawn inside other existing cars and explode after few dozens of seconds

cant remember

Not really sure to post but now I'm starting to wonder if the OG Xbox version may be the actual definitive edition to play. It has all the content of the PS2 version (as far as I'm aware) plus some extra vegetation and most importantly it supports progressive acceleration/braking with the triggers right away. Which I never got to work in PCSX2.

It may be just me being on placebos but I swear the highway traffic seems like it's much more stable too.

Pedinhuh

I always hated how cars in 3D GTA games never had a proper gearbox simulated, with working gear ratios.

Luckily, mods have finally caught up to that and now cars in San Andreas will work and accelerate more or less like they do on HD universe games.

Also works on SAMP apparently.

Being the center of attention at all times, with Peds insulting your clothes or whining about your smell, when there's no way to take a shower, therefore forcing me to wear a suit to make that nonsense stop. Like, why should they care about what I wear? I know everyone else laughs at those insults, well I'm afraid I don't have that sense of humor. I'm probably the only person in the world who hates that.

....Yeah, I'm a sensitive wimp
